We chain up the play park swings on a Sunday

No Waitrose/Asda/Amazon Prime/deliveroo

On a clear day you can see Canada (if you squint...Wink)

A four bedroom house sells for £130k

No one locks their doors

There's definitely no heatwave here

Why do you chain up the swings?

Chalady · 05/08/2018 23:07

Are drugs rife?

WLmum · 05/08/2018 23:08

The house price is relative - how do people earn a living?
And can I come and live there too please!

ThinkingCat · 05/08/2018 23:09

Have you always lived there?

Clairetree1 · 05/08/2018 23:09

whats the population where you live? do you know everybody? what are the shops like? what are the schools like? What is medical care like? do you have a swimming pool? cinema? sports clubs? have you always lived there? How often do you come to the mainland? Do you have shortages of anything? are inports expensive? is the post reliable?

GirthGrip · 05/08/2018 23:09

Do you knit woolly jumpers

WeeM · 05/08/2018 23:12

I love the outer Hebrides, best beaches in the world. Hoping to visit again next year Smile

Funnybunnydog · 05/08/2018 23:13

Do you feel guilty about the amount of time money and resources that has to be invested in providing emergency health care (think air ambulances etc) to you amd your fellow outer hebredians because of your decision to live there? Im not saying you should

Fredathetortoise · 05/08/2018 23:15

I'm heading in your approximate direction later this week for work ; what's the weather like? Are the midges bad? Anything else important I should know? Ta!

Notevilstepmother · 05/08/2018 23:17

Are you from there or did you move there?

MarthasGinYard · 05/08/2018 23:17

Have you always lived there Op?

Notevilstepmother · 05/08/2018 23:18

Do you chain the swings becuase it’s the sabbath? Is that a joke?

LighthouseSouth · 05/08/2018 23:21

I've often thought that would be a fab place to live.

but would we be viewed as odd, being a mixed race couple?

donajimena · 05/08/2018 23:22

What do you do to socialise?

FraxinusExcelsior · 05/08/2018 23:26

What's the deal with the swings?

Loopytiles · 05/08/2018 23:28

Yeah, what’s with the swings? Really hope it’s due to wind not religion!

How often is it sunny?

What are the people like?

BrutusMcDogface · 05/08/2018 23:30

I'm also interested in schools up there; I wonder what it's really like to be in a school with about three other pupils?! And to teach them?

ZestyDragon · 05/08/2018 23:30

I have friends living there and apparently the swing thing is due to religion. I thought they were joking!

WellThisIsShit · 05/08/2018 23:31

I too am puzzled with the swings thing?! Intriguing...

MrsJayy · 05/08/2018 23:34

I am just here for the swings I am assuming it is a presbyterian thing custom

Llamallann · 05/08/2018 23:35

In case the OP doesn’t come back - the swings used to be like this on a Sunday because it’s the Sabbath. The Hebrides are still very heavily influenced by the church. There was outcry at the thought of a CalMac sailing on a Sunday!

(Waves from the mainland)

Notevilstepmother · 05/08/2018 23:37

I think regardless of religion there is an argument that it’s good for people to have one day off a week, to do nothing but spend time with family.

WeeFreeWhiskyGalore · 05/08/2018 23:39

Swings thing is because of religion. The Protestant church (in all its many forms) is very strong here and people would find it disrespectful to play or work on the Sabbath. We don't hang out washing, the shops and leisure facilities are not open p. It's very quiet here.

Where has OP gone? Sad

Funnybunnydog · 05/08/2018 23:40

Notevilstepmother but surely that's what the swings are for, spending time with your family. Its hardly the same as a bookies or a pub.
