I was in 2 separate violent relationships. Both totalling nearly 9 years. Ask me anything

Who did you turn to after you left or did you do it with no friends etc?

Wetwashing00 · 20/07/2018 08:05

@Flisspaps

Sadly I had no one to turn to first of all, I vaguely remember telling a girl at work I was leaving my boyfriend but I don’t think I told her why. She encouraged me to do what I needed to and she would sort out Work stuff for me & explain to the boss.
My uncle drove 65 miles to pick me up, but again I don’t think anyone knew the real reason I wanted to leave.

The second time I had support from woman’s aid, their advice was the best I had been given. Even helping me to understand that it would not be in my daughters best interests to stay with him, and explained how it can effect her in the future.

Once everything came out to family & friends there wasn’t much support from them, they all wanted to hear about the terrible things that had happened but they had no real helpful advice.

No one came to court with me the first time & my mother only came to court during the sentencing of my child’s father because she wanted to see him punished

@Wetwashing00 I am in awe of your strength Thanks

@Flisspaps

Thank you,
without blowing my own trumpet I do feel like I am unusually confident & ‘strong’ for someone who has been through this twice. I am very open and like to over-share my experiences... some
People Can’t quite believe it, especially since I talk about so much.
But I hope that my stories travel between women & DV sufferers and that they are more informed about red flags.
