Why did you decide to do that, or were you trafficked and forced?

I was 18, completely broke and homeless, the lap dancing job was advertised in the job centre and said ‘training given, accommodation provided’ the drink/drugs/prostitution followed from there

How long did you do it for? Did you get away from all the bad bits - the drugs, prostitution etc?

I did it for 4 years and managed to get out. Found out I was pregnant, and went cold turkey. It’s easy to get into but very difficult to leave it behind

What do you wish adults had done to help you as a child?

Social services were involved, I lied to them and they didn’t help despite me seeing my dad at weekends and being unable to go to school because I was sore ‘down there’ and could barely walk. Eventually a court welfare officer stoppped contact but he pursued me right up until he died a few years ago (I’m in my thirties now) I suppose I wish my mum had been stronger and tried to protect me more too

I’m in a really good place now, I spoke to him and forgave him before he died, I was a mess for a long time but I’m lucky that I’ve managed to accept it and move on

How do you feel about the current arguments to legalise prostitution?

It should be legal. If it was legal girls would have a safer place in brothels and they would be happier asking for help if they were in trouble too. It will always happen so it should happen in the safest way possible in my opinion

What are your thoughts on the opinion that selling sex is fine because it's the woman's choice (excluding situations where it isn't obviously!)

As long as both parties are happy I think it’s fine.

I've think you've done incredibly well to turn your life around after such a horrific childhood. Did you find that most of the girls working has similar childhoods?

Thank you sienna, if I hadn’t fallen pregnant I wouldn’t have changed my life around and I’m a completely different person now.
Most of the girls had a relatively normal childhood, quite a few Romanian & Latvian girls did it purely to send money home to their families, some did it to pay for drugs, some did it because like me they were desperate. It can be very good money and that’s very difficult to leave behind

Wandering trolley no, I know some girls did and charged more but I just don’t think it’s worth the risk.
I worked in a brothel as a receptionist and although condoms were provided and it was against the rules, what happens behind the closed doors is between the client and the girl.
