Another from
Me. I live in Jersey in the Channel Islands

When I say this there are usually a lot of
Assumptions about the island. So if anyone has any questions feel free to ask!

Does everyone in Jersey think they live in the best place in the world?! When I visited, everyone I spoke to seemed to presume I would now want to try and move there.

Hometimetoday · 14/07/2018 10:51

I am genuinely confused about how Jersey is part of the UK but operates on it's own? Have i got that right? For example does it follow the UK schooling system or have its own?

Gingernaut · 14/07/2018 10:56

Do you really have a problem with feral chickens?

Ticcinalong · 14/07/2018 10:59

I’d love to live on Jersey, thought it was beautiful on holiday. Beaches, sun, peaceful... perfect - but I know holidays aren’t every day life.
What’s the best and worst thing about life there?

SerendipityFelix · 14/07/2018 11:01

Is the drive in bbq place where you eat in Wild West-style wagons still there?

Ticcinalong · 14/07/2018 11:06

Also what’s it like for children?

SideOrderofSprouts · 14/07/2018 11:22

Wow lots of questions!

We are not part of the uk but rather the British isles. We are a crown dependency like Gibraltar. Schooling wise we follow a similar curriculum to the uk or we do SATS and gcse etc but we follow a jersey education system

Yes we really do have feral chickens!! Not sure it’s a major problem, they aren’t roaming st helier but we do have some
Areas with a lot of free range chickens

Best and worst? Best is the fact I can go from
Work, pick up the kids and go to the beach
Worst is the cost of living. Our wages tend to be higher for the most part but the cost of living is very high.

For kids? Life is great I think for the kids here.

And no I haven’t seen a place with wagon wheels!

I went to Jersey a few years ago, I loved it. Loved that you couldn't really get lost, just keep driving and you eventually end up where you started. Such beautiful place (it was height of summer tbf)

Do you get many peopleliving there who didn't grow up on the island? I imagine it's the kind of place people retire to rather than decide to relocate.

SerendipityFelix · 14/07/2018 11:38

Do you still refer to the tourist hire cars with the red H number plates as “horror” cars?

(My memories are from living there 30 years ago!)

SqueakyBinders · 14/07/2018 11:53

What's the population? Does everybody know each other?

ErrmWTAF · 14/07/2018 11:56

High cost of of living surely offset by free chickens on every street corner? Grin

Eminybob · 14/07/2018 12:04

How old are you? (Just wondering if I might know you - I grew up there but moved away when I was 20)

Eminybob · 14/07/2018 12:05

The place with the wagons was the drive-in BBQ - it has been there for years though.

Eminybob · 14/07/2018 12:06

*hasnt been there I mean

Dowser · 14/07/2018 12:13

Dare I mention haute en la Garonne children’s home
Will jersey ever recover from the jimmy saville paedophile and child abuse connection
I read one of the children’s books written as an adult
It was heartbreaking

SideOrderofSprouts · 14/07/2018 12:22

At the moment population is around 100,000

I’m not jersey born either but I’ve been here 13 years now. We get a lot of people
Move here to work in finance or hospitality. Also
A lot of our teachers are from off island as well

As for knowing everyone, alot of people are linked by at least one person. Generally if I go to town I see someone I know

Haute de la garenne was awful and there is a lot of fall out here from it. I know a few people affected by the event there and I’m the care system in general.

Not so much horror cars but as ‘bloody tourists’ a lot!

Are you OK OP. According to the Daily Mail It's the Battle of Trafalgar all over again at the moment?!
