I work in tv, film and theatre. I've had some amazing jobs but I've also had very long periods of no acting work...
Don't know if this will be of any interest to anyone but I've enjoyed reading the other threads so much and thought I'd throw my hat in the ring!

What do you do in the long periods of no acting?

Yes. I've done quite a bit of bbc. I like the period dramas...
When I'm not working, I now run a Childrens party company which I can keep going throughout. I used to be a nanny (hence why I ended up on mumsnet) I also do a lot of voiceovers.

@SayNoToCarrots
It's not ludicrously high but it's significantly higher than my friends who are teachers etc. It seems that I am deemed to be high risk.

Where did you train & how old were you when you commenced training?

@Iwasjustabouttosaythat
I've never done a full love scene with someone I didn't like but I have had a few on screen kisses with less than desirables..
Worst one was a kiss with someone reasonably well known (was in a well known bbc soap 🙄) anyway, his mouth smelled like rotten teeth. That's the only way I can describe it. Literal rot.
He was so nice though so I just got on with it but for days after, I could still smell it...

@AlexanderHamilton
I trained at Mountview academy of theatre arts in London and I graduated when I was 22. It was an incredible experience and I was very fortunate to go. My parents didn't have the money, id previously done a year at a dance school, they gave me a place even though I couldn't pay as long as I helped with the evening classes for kids.
I then auditioned and got a place at Mountview and fortunately went on a scholarship.

@Iwasjustabouttosaythat
I also did Panto one year with a man who insisted on shoving his tongue down my throat every night. He was the prince, I was Snow White. One night, I'd had enough and I bit it. That was the end of that.

Good place to train. I’ve heard the top drama colleges don’t often take 18 year olds as they are too young unlike the dance colleges where you can go at 16.

Have you ever experienced the Casting Couch?

Have you experienced nepotism personally?

whatacarryon2018 · 13/07/2018 12:53

@AlexanderHamilton
Yes, I think that's true. I auditioned when I was 17 and didn't get in and then I went to dance school
For a year...I didn't really like dancing but it was the only thing I had where I lived. I then auditioned again and got in to start when I was 19.

@LoveLifeLive87
I haven't experienced nepotism
Personally but it definitely goes on.

Casting couch. Sadly yes. One of my first auditions out of drama school was with a producer who said he "enjoyed my piece but enjoyed my tits more"
I was very young and didn't know what to say.

Ugh, you poor thing. How repulsive. For the casting couch obviously, but sorry about the teeth and creep prince too. Confused

Do you have any incredibly scandalous stories about famous people you can share (without saying their names of course)?

Lots of well known actors who are (even in this day and age) unable to be honest about their sexuality and that's very sad. Make and female I should add.

Well yes really. Whilst I understand they don't have to answer any questions they clearly did say to ask anything. So just asking.
