I know it's an alien concept to some but this is the real me...

How do you cope with the extroverts in your life?

TiredPony · 08/07/2018 01:51

Just dropping by to wave from another introvert, nothing to say in true introvert style.

Hi TiredPony thanks for dropping by! No words needed :)
tava63 - hi to you too. I tend to make sure you see the extroverts in small windows of time but they "get" me and I love and "get" them.

Thanks for response OP. Can you describe what your ideal short bursts look like? Also I've read that introverts have a lot going on in their head and this is why they don't need as much stimulation from people - In comparison to extroverts. If you agree can you describe what that experience is like, how it makes you feel and any behaviour that is a direct result of a busy mind. Thanks in advance this subject fascinates me.

Are there far fewer introverts than extroverts? I'd have expected it to be 50/50..?

Therealme56 · 11/07/2018 01:29

Hi to you both! I always imagine there are far fewer introverts but perhaps they just don't engage with others enough for it to be obvious. That's certainly true of my situation outside my small circle.
My ideal short burst of interaction would be/ is perhaps having someone in for coffee because I feel comfortable with them but I need to be able to say "I have to get on now". I don't like anyone popping in without notice and very rarely visit others. I sound like a right bundle of fun i know but I need to get back to being alone and doing stuff - I am forever organising, reading, practising relaxation techniques or listening to music. I always like to be looking at ways to improve things, be it my household storage systems or my daily routines. I am a perfectionist who will never reach perfectionism though.

It's not 50/50, they think there are about twice as many extroverts so more like 67/33.

Hi OP, thanks for this thread.
Over the years, I've realised that I definitely have long phases of introvert-ism, often where I just want peace & quiet and not to interact with anyone for more than one brief sentence.
I think I'm able to turn on extravert-ism if the circumstances really demand it of me. Do you recognise that in yourself?

NCPuffin · 12/07/2018 20:54

Hi! How would you define being an introvert? Did your teachers always tell you to share your ideas more often in class? I am extremely extroverted and a teacher, and I always feel bad telling kids to put their hands up more often, but still do anyway Blush

Would you consider yourself shy? Do you have a partner and if so, are they introverted too? Do you talk a lot?

Introvert checking in, interesting idea for a thread 😊

I find being with people I don't know well who I have to interact with very tiring. I like peace and quiet and being on my own. I have quite a lot of friends, but see them fairly irregularly. I find being looked at by multiple pairs of eyes incredibly worrying. I don't understand why anyone would want to show off or gain mass attention shudder
