I'm 42, I write fanfiction and take part in RP (role play) online AMA

I don't expect this will get a lot of attention but at least if anyone else does it 'at my age' it will maybe normalise it a bit!

Do you keep your online life and 'offline' lives separate/secret from each other, or do you discuss your writing etc., as freely with your friends/family as you would with your online communities?

What fandoms and what formats/websites, etc. (I’m being nosy).

What fanfic do you write - books, film?

I think fanfic is getting a bit old now that Twilight and Harry Potter are done. What’s the next big thing in the fan fic world?

Completely separate. I have an online friend who I'm really close to and who is the same age and also write fanfic and she is a godsend, I adore her. My dh and dc know I write but not what I write. For me it's escapism in every way, both what I write and that no-one irl knows I do it.

I write on Ao3 and more recently Tumblr (although I feel as old as Methuselah on Tumblr) I write for a very small and niche fandom although I don't want to say what I'm here as it might out me. There is a huge slash (male/male) community although i don't write slash. I would say fanfic is still hugely thriving. It's not generally respected as a genre and is seen as a young teen/woman (in particular) thing but I think there are more older fic writers around than you'd think.

I prefer the format on Ao3 tbh. And it allows more smut too, to be quite frank . I know that Wattpad is A Thing but the quality on there is atrocious (imo) and there is very little interaction or feedback.

RP is huge fun and slightly addictive. I need to limit it as it can be too much of a pull from rl at times!
