Hello everyone,

As so many of you requested, here is a topic dedicated to sharing your unique experiences and finding out weird and wonderful things about your fellow Mumsnetters.

As with any new topic, we'll check back in a while to see if it's being used - if not, we'll quietly retire it to the barren plains of long forgotten topics - so please do post.

Thanks all,
MNHQ

Are you going to move the existing threads here?

cloudtree · 06/07/2018 16:24

Thank God - now we can block them!

MollyHuaCha · 06/07/2018 16:27

I thought the request for an AMA area was a joke. Blush

Problematique · 06/07/2018 16:28

I really don't like this idea. The AMAs are popular on Reddit. BUT the moderators go to a lot of effort to verify every AMA subject to ensure they are who they say they are. At very least you should put a sticky warning at the top of every thread that there is no proof this person is who they say. I have seen a few recently on here that I have real reservations about.

cloudtree · 06/07/2018 16:31

Can we even block a whole topic? How is that done?

GladAllOver · 06/07/2018 17:13

Can you please move the existing AMA's over to here for reference, so they are not lost? Even the silly ones, so that the moaners will shut up.

DramaAlpaca · 06/07/2018 17:15

Another vote for moving the existing threads over here.

YourHandInMyHand · 06/07/2018 17:18

Oh PLEASE do tell, how do we hide a full topic from active conversations?

BertieBotts · 06/07/2018 23:00

If this topic is staying, could we have a quote function just for this section? It's really hard to read through a thread where a poster is just replying to questions by tagging the person who asked because you have to scroll back up to see what the question was.

If no quote function, then it would be good to have a sticky with, yes, a note saying it's for entertainment only and to bear in mind people may not be who they say they are, but also a note to anybody thinking of giving an AMA which has a couple of pointers - I'd suggest making sure you have a free hour or two to dedicate to answering questions or be willing to pop back for a few minutes throughout the day, and then to make sure that either you answer in full sentences so that people don't necessarily need to have read the question for the answer to make sense, or to copy and paste the entire question for answering - just to make it easier for people to read along and follow.

BertieBotts · 06/07/2018 23:03

Blocking a topic is in Customise. I think you can only do it on the desktop site, though.

dangerrabbit · 07/07/2018 17:05

Yes would be great if the existing ama can be moved to this board

Aridane · 07/07/2018 17:11

Yes, can we move existing AMAs to here?

lulu12345 · 07/07/2018 17:14

Brilliant! Agree with @BertieBotts that it would be helpful to have standard guidance on how OP should reply to questions, ideally copying the original qu in bold then replying with answer.

AgentProvocateur · 07/07/2018 17:17

Thank God - now I can block the topic.

areyoubeingserviced · 07/07/2018 17:18

I will block the topic

halfwitpicker · 07/07/2018 17:25

Why does everyone hate it so much?

cloudtree · 09/07/2018 10:58

I hate it because its so self involved. Me, me, me, everyone focus on me. Even though half of what I want to tell you isn't relevant to anyone but me. Me!

Anyway I still can't work out how to block the whole topic. I can't even find customise anymore!

AgentProvocateur · 09/07/2018 21:25

I hate it for the same reason. I’m sure there are some honest ones among the narcissists and fantasists, but who knows?
