How we tested

Testing the Polti Vaporetto SV460 Double steam cleaner

I tested the Polti Vaporetto SV460 Double over a two-week period, using it every other day. It was mainly used on hard tiled floors, with additional testing on an area rug, a sofa, a hob, bathroom tiles, a shower screen and mirrors. I tackled stains including dried coffee, pasta sauce, grease, general dirt and a small random carpet stain.

If you’re on the hunt for a reliable steam cleaner that gets hard floors properly clean without much fuss, the Polti Vaporetto SV460_DOUBLE does a solid job.

I found it genuinely effective on hard floors, lifting dried-on coffee and general grime that my robot mops couldn’t shift. And it feels powerful enough for regular deeper cleans without needing lots of effort.

The fast heat-up time makes a real difference in everyday life. Being able to plug it in and start cleaning almost immediately meant it actually got used, rather than sitting in the cupboard waiting for a “big clean”.

That said, the build doesn’t feel especially premium and the handheld mode is a bit cumbersome for longer jobs. Some surfaces were left wetter than ideal, especially glass, which meant extra wiping afterwards. But none of these issues were dealbreakers.

Overall, it’s a practical, affordable steam cleaner that works best as a floor mop for hard floors but offers plenty of flexibility thanks to its attachments. If you mainly want strong steam cleaning without spending a fortune, it’s a sensible choice.

Setup was quick and straightforward. The mop heats up in around 15 seconds, which is a real plus if you want to clean on the fly. Filling the 300ml tank is simple, although I’d recommend using a jug to avoid water splashing around the opening.

What can you clean with a steam cleaner like the Polti Vaporetto Steam Mop?

Polti Vaporetto SV460 Double cleaning

During testing, it handled tiled floors, rugs, upholstery, kitchen surfaces, bathroom tiles and glass. Floors and soft furnishings responded particularly well, with most marks lifting after one or two passes. Glass surfaces were left clean but very wet, so they needed drying with a cloth afterwards.

As a mop, it worked very well. It tackled dried coffee stains that my robot mops (eufy E28 and Ultenic T20) couldn’t manage and left the floor visibly cleaner with minimal effort. Tougher marks needed a little more scrubbing but came off after a few passes using the built-in brush on the floor head. Upholstery also responded well, giving my sofa a nice refresh.

What’s it like to use day-to-day?

In mop mode, it’s easy to push around and feels well balanced. The steam trigger sits comfortably under your hand, making longer cleans manageable. As a handheld unit, it works but feels less ergonomic, especially when cleaning vertical surfaces. The long cable is handy, though it does need wrapping carefully to stop it tangling when in use.

Does it offer good value for money?

The RRP is £159 but the Polti Vaporetto SV460 Double typically sells for around £99 putting it firmly in the mid-range market. Premium products like the Kärcher SC5 EasyFix SteamCleaner sell for around £369 and you can pick up a budget handheld unit like the Beldray 15-In-1 Steam Cleaner for around £55.

Compared with similar-priced steam mops, it stands out for its fast heat-up time and generous selection of attachments. It doesn’t feel as robust or refined as more expensive models, but it also costs less. For homes with lots of hard flooring, pets or kids, it offers strong cleaning performance and flexibility without stretching the budget.
