Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow review: "it moulded to my head nicely"

A cooling, supportive memory foam pillow that impressed our hot-sleeping tester, but won’t suit everyone’s sleep style.

Our verdict

This is one of those products where your personal sleep habits will make or break it. If you’ve ever compared the best pillows, you’ll know how much your sleep position and preferences matter.

The Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow is supportive, structured and, crucially, noticeably cooling. If you’re a back sleeper who likes a bit of firmness and tends to overheat, it’ll likely feel like a step up from your usual pillow.

Our tester Katy, though, is very much not that person. She prefers a very flat pillow and moves around constantly in her sleep, so it’s no surprise she found it “too firm” and not quite right for her, which is exactly where something like the best pillows for side sleepers can feel more forgiving

That said, even she could see the appeal. As she put it, “I can see the benefit of the product… it definitely helped with [overheating].”

So while it didn’t win her over completely, it’s clearly doing something right. The trick is knowing whether you’re the right sort of sleeper for it.

How we’ve tested the Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow

Katy White tested the Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow over 30 days alongside the Otty Original Hybrid mattress.

She’s a hot sleeper, a frequent position-switcher and, importantly, someone who usually avoids structured pillows altogether. “I don’t always use pillows,” she says, “I prefer a really flat sleeping position.”

That context is key. If a pillow works for Katy, it’ll work for pretty much anyone. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t necessarily mean the pillow’s the problem.

Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow: what’s in the box?

No drama here. The pillow arrives compressed, wrapped and ready to go.

Katy described it as “very easy” to set up, with no faff or unexpected issues. You take it out, let it expand and that’s it.

It’s the sort of low-effort start you want, especially when you’re testing something that might already take a bit of getting used to.

First impressions of the Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow

Straight out of the packaging, this feels like a proper, grown-up pillow. It’s structured, holds its shape and doesn’t have that floppy, slightly apologetic feel you get with cheaper fibre pillows.

Katy rated the materials, stitching and overall build as “good”, and said it felt like something that would last.

The firmness is obvious from the start, though. This isn’t a sink-in, squash-it-down situation. It’s designed to hold its shape, and it does.

That lines up with what we’ve seen elsewhere. Some reviewers describe it as firmly supportive, others as comfortable but structured. Either way, it’s not pretending to be soft.

This memory foam pillow offers plenty of support - but little flexibility

How does the Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow feel to sleep on? Is it comfortable?

This is where things get a bit more nuanced. Katy rated the comfort and support both at 6 out of 10. Not terrible, but not transformative either. In fact, she said her sleep was “slightly worse” compared to her usual pillow.

But the reason matters. She normally sleeps very flat due to a back issue, and switches positions frequently through the night. For her, a memory foam pillow that holds its shape is always going to feel a bit at odds with how she naturally sleeps. If neck or spinal support is a priority, it’s worth comparing options in our guide to the best pillows for neck pain.

As she put it, “it’s not what I personally want from my pillow,” even though “it moulded to my head nicely”.

That’s the crux of it. The pillow is doing exactly what it’s designed to do. It’s just not aligned with her preferences.

Other reviews back this up from the opposite angle. When you do like a bit of structure and support, this kind of pillow can feel excellent. It just depends what you’re coming from.

Katy also needed a few nights to adjust. “Needed 3+ nights to adjust,” she said, which feels realistic for something that changes your sleep position slightly.

Does the Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow feel good quality?

Yes, and this is probably its safest strength. Katy found the materials and stitching solid, and said it would “probably” last well without losing shape. After 30 days, there were no issues with flattening or uneven support.

That’s one of the big advantages of memory foam. You lose the ability to reshape it, but you gain consistency. Which, depending on your personality, is either reassuring or mildly annoying.

Does the Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow regulate temperature?

This is where the pillow really earns its keep. Katy is a hot sleeper and was very clear about the difference. “The material is really cooling and I had a good experience with that,” she said, adding that overheating is something she “frequently encounters and it definitely helped”. If overheating is a regular issue for you, it’s also worth looking at the best cooling pillows to see how this compares.

She agreed that it stayed cool, felt ventilated and didn’t trap heat. That’s not always a given with memory foam, which can be a bit stuffy, so it’s worth noting when it actually works. Other reviews have found the same, describing it as noticeably cooler than standard memory foam pillows. In this case, the bamboo and airflow design aren’t just marketing fluff.

Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow: does it retain its shape

It does, and consistently. Katy said it held its shape “most of the time” and only needed occasional adjustment. There were no lumpy bits, no sagging and no gradual collapse over the testing period.

That said, she did flag something quite relatable. “It does however also lack the ability to fluff up pillows and make them look more aesthetic when making the bed.”

It’s a small thing, but also not. If you like that plump, hotel-style look, this won’t give you it.

Is the Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow hypoallergenic?

The pillow is marketed as hypoallergenic, and while Katy said “I believe so”, she didn’t notice any specific difference in use. She also reported no issues with smell, irritation or dust, which is arguably the more important bit.

Who is the Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow good for? Who should avoid it?

Katy’s take on this was refreshingly straightforward. She said it would suit “back sleepers” and “cool sleepers”, and that feels spot on.

It’s a good option if you:

  • Like a firmer, more supportive pillow

  • Sleep on your back

  • Tend to overheat at night

  • Want something that keeps its shape

Less so if you:

  • Prefer a very flat or soft pillow

  • Switch positions constantly

  • Like to scrunch or fold your pillow

  • Want something adjustable

Katy summed it up neatly: “I don’t think my sleeping suits the memory foam.”

Comparison: Otty Deluxe vs Otty Adjustable pillows

Compared to a standard fibre pillow, this is a completely different experience. It’s firmer, more consistent and far less forgiving if you like to move around. And if you’re rethinking your whole sleep setup, not just your pillow, our guide to the best mattresses is a useful place to start.

Against other memory foam pillows, it sits somewhere in the middle. Structured, but not uncomfortably hard. Where it stands out is cooling.

Not all memory foam manages that particularly well, and this one does a noticeably better job than most. The trade-off is flexibility. You’re buying into a fixed shape and feel.

Final verdict: is this the pillow for you?

The Otty Deluxe Pure Pillow is a good example of a product that does its job well, but won’t suit everyone.

Katy didn’t love it, but she didn’t dismiss it either. It simply wasn’t right for how she sleeps. Even so, she highlighted the cooling, the quality and the consistency as clear strengths.

If you’re a back sleeper who wants support and struggles with overheating, this is well worth a look. If you’re attached to a soft, flat pillow you can wrestle into submission at 2am, you’ll probably find it too firm.

As ever with pillows, it’s less about whether it’s good and more about whether it’s good for you. If you’re still weighing up options, our round-up of the best pillows breaks down the different types and who they suit.

🔎 About the tester
