Ninja Crispi Pro 7-in-1 XL Glass Air Fryer review: excellent results, but is it big enough for families?

The Ninja Crispi Pro swaps the usual coated drawer for two clear glass cooking containers and adds enough functions to tackle everything from chips to a whole chicken. Mumsnet tester Helen put it through its paces in a family-of-four kitchen to find out whether its good looks and excellent cooking justify the premium price.

What Mumsnet users say

Our verdict

Unlike many air fryers, it seems the Ninja Crispi Pro is an unusually easy air fryer to like. Its glass containers are more than a design flourish: they let you see how dinner is getting on without opening anything, can go in the dishwasher and come with lids so leftovers can head straight into the fridge or freezer.

The modular base takes either the 5.7L or 2.3L container, while seven cooking functions and proper time and temperature controls make this a much more capable machine than the original Crispi.

For our Mumsnet tester Helen, the cooking performance was the strongest part. She rated evenness, crispness and doneness excellent, and gave the finished meals five out of five. Her roast chicken was the standout: “The chicken was amazing! I cooked it breast down for 20 mins and then breast up for 40mins and it was so juicy and tender. I can’t say it struggled to cook anything.”

It was fast, too. Helen said: “Definitely faster. There’s no waiting for the oven to heat up. It’s chuck it in, turn it and and it’s ready quicker than stated on the instructions.”

While the bigger container can fit a chicken, it still may not be big enough for a larger family

The catch is that XL is doing some fairly energetic work in the product name. The 5.7L container can take a whole chicken, but Helen still found the single cooking space restrictive compared with her 10.4L Ninja FlexDrawer. It worked for everyday meals and smaller portions, but not everything a family of four might want to cook at once.

At £265 that matters. The Crispi Pro costs as much as some bigger dual-zone models, yet can only cook one food at one setting at a time. It is beautifully simple, well made and excellent at what it does. Couples, small families and anyone keen to cook in PFAS-free glass will get the most from it. Bigger households should be honest about how often they would miss a second zone.

How we’ve tested the Ninja Crispi Pro 7-in-1 XL Glass Air Fryer

Working mum-of-two, Helen tested the Ninja Crispi Pro at home in a family of four, using it daily for the sort of food her household actually eats: chips, hash browns, potato waffles, roast vegetables, chicken, salmon and scones.

Unlike myself, she’s a confident cook who prepares meals from scratch most days and already owns a Ninja FlexDrawer, giving her a useful point of comparison for speed and capacity.

During six weeks of testing, she assessed how evenly food cooked and whether it crisped well. Whether meals were cooked through, evenly and were faster than her conventional oven. How easy the controls were to understand and how useful the two containers felt for family cooking. She was tasked with analysing the build quality, its countertop footprint and day-to-day cleaning - and more importantly, whether the Crispi Pro is worth the price tag.

Ninja Crispi Pro 7-in-1: what’s in the box?

The box contains:

  • Ninja Crispi Pro XL 2050W air fryer

  • 5.7L CleanCrisp glass container

  • 2.3L CleanCrisp glass container

  • Removable modular base

  • Two crisper plates

  • Two storage lids

  • Recipe guide

The two glass containers are thermal-shock resistant and designed to move between freezer, air fryer, table and storage. Both fit the same base, but this is still a single-zone machine: you choose one container at a time.

First impressions and set-up of the Ninja Crispi Pro 7-in-1

The Crispi Pro looks less like a conventional drawer air fryer and more like a compact glass oven. Its footprint is roughly 30 x 31cm, so it does not sprawl across the worktop, although the separate container and lids still need somewhere to live.

Helen rated its countertop footprint five out of five and found the set-up “very straightforward”. She also gave the controls five out of five and shared that it’s “completely intuitive, never needed the manual”.

The build made an equally good impression. After repeated use, Helen said: “It stills feels as good as it did when I opened the box. Very solid and good quality and as long as it’s cleaned after each use, it still looks like new.”

Ninja Crispi Pro 7-in-1: cooking performance and results

Mumsnet tester Helen gave the Crispi Pro top marks for even cooking, crispness and doneness. Chips, hash browns and potato waffles were easy wins for the children, while roast vegetables, salmon and chicken covered more substantial family meals.

The whole chicken showed what the deep 5.7L container can do. It came out juicy and tender after Helen cooked it breast-side down for 20 minutes and breast-side up for a further 40. Nothing she tried was a genuine failure.

Scones needed a little longer for colour rather than doneness. Helen explained: “The scones were supposed to take 10 mins but I left them in for 14. Mainly because I like a bit of colour and wanted them a bit browner. I’m confident they were probably cooked after 10 mins but they looked a bit pale”

The lack of preheating also made it faster and less faffy than using the oven for small batches. As with any single-zone air fryer, you may need to plan separate components around one another rather than expecting a complete meal to finish together - for that, you’d be better off with a dual-drawer air fryer

The controls on the Ninja Crispi Pro 7-in-1 glass air fryer

Helen found the controls straightforward to use

How easy is the Ninja Crispi Pro 7-in-1 to use?

The air fryer has seven functions, which are Max Crisp, Air Fry, Bake, Prove, Roast, Dehydrate and Re-crisp. You can also adjust the time and temperature manually, which is useful if you dislike being bossed about by presets.

Helen mainly used manual time and temperature settings. She found the single-container system refreshingly straightforward: “As the Crispi Pro only has one basket, it is very straightforward to use. No syncing involved.”

That simplicity is a strength until you want to cook two foods at different temperatures. There is no divider, second zone or sync function. For a couple cooking one main component, that is no hardship. But as mentioned earlier, for a family juggling chicken, chips and veg, it can mean batches or another appliance joining the party.

Capacity of the Ninja Crispi Pro 7-in-1

Ninja says the 5.7L container can feed up to six and fit a whole chicken with vegetables. In Helen’s real-life family-of-four test, capacity was the biggest compromise. She rated it “a bit too small” and said she occasionally cooked in batches.

Her comparison with the FlexDrawer is blunt and useful: “The size. I also have the Ninja Flexidrawer and I did struggle with not being able to cook as much as I’m used to. I love the Crispi Pro for everyday meals but I will definitely be bringing out my old FlexDrawer for Christmas dinners and Sunday roasts.”

The smaller 2.3L container is handy for snacks and sides, and the lids make both containers useful for storing food. Still, neither changes the basic arithmetic: this is one active cooking zone. It suits couples, smaller portions and quick weeknight components better than ambitious family feasts.

Is it easy to clean the Ninja Crispi Pro 7-in-1?

I firmly believe that anything deemed helpful in the kitchen should be dishwasher friendly. Thankfully, with the Ninja Crispi Pro 7-in-1, the glass containers, crisper plates and lids are dishwasher safe. Helen gave cleaning four out of five and found that food itself did not stick, but the crisper plates shouldn’t be neglected. Though, I’ve found something similar with my own Ninja air fryer and others tested.

She said: “Nothing stuck. You do need to clean the crisp plates after every use. Grease does build up very quickly and makes cleaning difficult if you don’t. My kids cooked some chips over a couple of days and when I came to use it, there was some grease build-up which took some scrubbing to get off.”

The transparent glass has another small advantage: there is nowhere for old splashes to hide. A quick clean after each use keeps the whole thing looking smarter and avoids an archaeological dig later.

Is the Ninja Crispi Pro good value?

At £265, the Crispi Pro sits firmly in premium territory. Helen called it “a little too expensive”, judged it slightly worse value than other models she had used or seen and said she probably would not buy it at full price.

What you are paying for is the glass cooking system, two container sizes, seven functions, sturdy build and a design that moves neatly from preparation to cooking, serving and storage. Those are real benefits, particularly if avoiding PFAS-coated cookware is a priority.

That said, capacity is hard to ignore. Larger dual-zone and FlexDrawer models can cost roughly the same while giving families more space and the ability to cook two foods independently. The Crispi Pro makes most sense when its glassware and smaller footprint matter more to you than maximum volume.

Who is the Ninja Crispi Pro best suited to?

Helen picked out individuals and couples, busy weeknight cooks and beginners. Her final recommendation adds the necessary family caveat: “Yes I would. It looks great, cooks great but is a little small. It would be great if it had two compartments but you can make it work for smaller meals. I would say it is perfect for couples or small families as long as you are happy with smaller portions.”

It is also a strong fit for anyone who wants to see food cooking, dislikes traditional non-stick baskets or value containers that can cook, serve and store. Large families and enthusiastic batch cooks should look towards a dual-zone or FlexDrawer model.

Final verdict: is the Ninja Crispi Pro worth buying?

There’s no denying that the Ninja Crispi Pro cooks superbly. Helen’s food came out evenly cooked, crisp and tasty, with the roast chicken proving that the 5.7L glass container is more capable than its tidy footprint suggests. The controls are intuitive, the build feels reassuringly solid and watching dinner through glass is useful - not just novel.

"I love the Crispi Pro for everyday meals"

The two dishwasher-safe containers and storage lids also make the system more practical than a standard basket air fryer. Helen’s favourite feature summed up the appeal: “The non toxic cooking and the fact you can easily see the food inside.”

The problem is price versus capacity. It costs as much as larger dual-zone machines, yet cooks in one container at a time. For couples and small families who want PFAS-free glass, excellent results and a compact footprint, it is a clever and likeable buy. For a family of four hoping to retire the oven, it is more likely to be a very good supporting act.
