Morphy Richards EverCosy Luxury Striped Heated Throw review: soft, warm and large without being bulky

I tested the Morphy Richards EverCosy Luxury Striped Heated Throw for two months, using it on the sofa and at my desk. It’s big, soft and flexible, with plenty of heat and timer settings, but a few quirks to be aware of.

How I tested

I tested this Morphy Richards heated throw over the course of two months during the winter. Taking detailed notes on comfort, fabric quality, ease of use and warmth, I used an infrared thermometer gun to measure heat up time and how warm it gets under the blanket.

Using the heated throw in bed, on the sofa and at my WFH desk, I assessed its strengths and weaknesses - as well as how well it withstands machine washing.

This is a comfortable, good-looking heated throw that quickly became part of my everyday routine. The size is a real selling point. Because it’s large without being bulky, I could use it on the sofa, at my desk or over my duvet in bed, and it never felt restrictive or heavy.

The heat itself is gentle rather than intense. Once it’s warmed up, it does a good job of keeping you cosy, but the warmth isn’t completely even, with the corners staying cooler. That’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s noticeable if you like to tuck the edges around you.

Where this throw really stands out is adjustability. With nine heat settings and a timer that runs from one to nine hours, you can fine-tune it far more than many heated throws. That flexibility is great once you’ve set it up the way you like.

The controls, though, take a bit of getting used to. Every time you turn it on, it defaults to heat level five for two hours. I found that both cooler and longer than I wanted. Dreamland throws tend to default to maximum heat for one hour, which feels more intuitive when you’re cold and just want warming up quickly.

Overall, this is a stylish, practical heated throw that works well for everyday use. It’s not perfect, but if you value size, softness and precise control, it’s a solid option.

Does the Morphy Richards EverCosy Luxury Striped Heated Throw keep you warm?

Yes, it does. Once warmed up, it’s very comfortable for sitting under, especially over your lap or shoulders. The centre heats best, while the corners stay cooler, so it feels most effective when it’s draped rather than fully wrapped like a blanket.

The nine heat settings mean you can find a level that suits you, whether you just want to take the chill off or feel properly cosy. I liked being able to turn it down once I’d warmed up rather than switching it off entirely.

Using an infrared thermometer gun, I measured the temperature under the blanket on the highest heat setting. After 10 minutes, it had reached a cosy 35°C, and after an hour on full it was a sweltering 51.4°C - much hotter than I need it to be. The throw costs about 4.5p per hour to run on full, which makes it a pretty impressive heat level for very reasonable running costs.

Is the Morphy Richards EverCosy Luxury Striped Heated Throw washable?

Yes. The control detaches easily, and I washed the throw according to the care label. It dried in around 24 hours and felt just as soft afterwards, with no clumping or stiffness. That makes it much more practical for everyday use, especially if it lives on the sofa where pets, cups of tea and crumbs are an ever-present threat.

Is the Morphy Richards EverCosy Luxury Striped Heated Throw good value for money?

The Morphy Richards EverCosy sits in the mid-range for heated throws. Compared with cheaper options like the Mia&Coco heated throw, it feels more generously sized and better finished, with more heat and timer settings. Budget throws often keep things simple, which can be fine, but you lose some flexibility.

At a similar price, the Dreamland Hygge Days Luxury Heated Throw is its closest rival. Dreamland offers fewer heat settings and preset timer options, but its default controls are more intuitive and the heat feels more evenly distributed. The Morphy Richards counters with a larger size and more precise customisation.

If you want something straightforward that heats up fast with minimal faff, Dreamland may still edge it. If you like having full control over heat and timing, and want a throw that works in different spots around the house, the EverCosy is good value.
