I tested the Meaco Sefte 6” Portable Air Circulator, is the smaller size worth it?

The MeacoFan Sefte 6” Portable Fan is the baby of the Sefte range, but after a month of desk, bedroom and heatwave use, its compact size turned out to be its biggest strength.

How I tested

I tested the MeacoFan Sefte 6” Portable Fan over the course of a month, including a two-week heatwave. I used it mainly at my work-from-home desk and in my son's room on his computer desk while he was gaming.

I looked at how easy it was to fit into everyday family life, how much space it took up, whether it provided enough cooling for close-range use and whether the smaller 6” size felt limiting or genuinely useful.

The MeacoFan Sefte 6” Portable Fan is very easy to live with, especially if your home is already full of laptops, chargers, mugs, homework, Lego and the general clutter of family life. Being cordless is a big advantage, but its real strength is its size. It's small enough to sit where you actually need it - while being powerful enough to make a difference in a heatwave.

I tested it at my WFH desk and in my son's room on his gaming desk. In both places, the compact footprint made a noticeable difference. It didn't take over the desk or require a clear-out before I could use it. During a two-week heatwave, that mattered. A fan that gets in the way every time you reach for a notebook or move your mouse soon becomes frustrating.

Performance-wise, this is best viewed as a personal cooling fan rather than a whole-room solution. Meaco says it offers airflow up to 16m, 12 speeds, horizontal oscillation and manual vertical oscillation. In day-to-day use, it was more than capable of keeping one person comfortable at a desk or bedside.

The 8” model is only £10 more, currently £80 compared with £70 for the 6”, so the value question isn't quite as simple as choosing the cheaper option. If you want a fan for a larger bedroom, living room or shared space, I'd lean towards the 8”. For a child's desk, a narrow bedside table, a compact home office or anyone who wants cooling close by without giving up valuable surface space, the 6” makes a compelling case.

Is the MeacoFan Sefte 6” Portable Fan good for heatwaves?

Yes, provided you're using it for the right job. During a two-week heatwave, the MeacoFan Sefte 6” Portable Fan worked best as a close-range fan, either beside my laptop during the working day or on my son's gaming desk.

The smaller size is a real advantage here. A larger fan can feel excessive on a desk, particularly when you're already sharing the space with a monitor, keyboard, mouse and water bottle. This one sat neatly in place and provided plenty of cooling without taking over.

It has 12 speed settings, so you can start low when you just want a little airflow and increase it when the room becomes stuffy. The lower speeds are designed for close-range use, which matched how I used it most often.

I wouldn't choose it for cooling a large open room or moving air across a bigger space for several people. That's where the 8” model makes more sense. For working, gaming and sleeping during a heatwave, though, the 6” is the kind of fan you'll be glad to have nearby.

Is the MeacoFan Sefte 6” Portable Fan quiet enough for bedrooms?

The MeacoFan Sefte 6” Portable Fan is designed for low-noise use, with sound levels from 22dB - it's also got the stamp of approval from Quiet Mark. In practice, it's well suited to bedrooms, desks and gaming set-ups where you don't want fan noise competing with calls, concentration or sleep.

Night mode is particularly useful. It switches off the display and mutes the beeps, which helps avoid small annoyances at bedtime. There's also a glow-in-the-dark magnetic remote, making it easier to adjust settings without hunting around in the dark.

For a child's room, the size is another plus point. It fitted neatly on a computer desk and didn't make the surface feel crowded. Meaco also includes a child lock, which offers some extra reassurance in a family home.

How does the MeacoFan Sefte 6” Portable Fan compare to the 8” version?

The 6” and 8” Sefte portable fans are aimed at similar buyers: people who want cordless cooling without settling for a lightweight travel fan that struggles to actually cool you down.

The main difference is scale. The 6” is the smallest Sefte fan, and Meaco positions it for bedside tables, narrow desks, shelves, kitchen counters and other compact spaces. That matched my experience. It worked particularly well at my (slightly messy) WFH desk and on my son's gaming desk because it took up so little room.

The 8” model costs £80, while the 6” costs £70, based on Meaco's current pricing. The 8” also has a shorter quoted battery life of up to 17 hours, compared with up to 26 hours for the 6”.

So which should you choose? I'd go for the 6” if you want a personal fan for one person, especially for a desk, bedside table, child's room, student room, caravan or small home office. I'd choose the 8” if you want stronger airflow for a larger room or a fan that's likely to be shared - there's also a 10" Sefte which has the same size fan as the pedestal model.

The 6” has a distinct appeal of its own. The smaller size makes it easier to place, less intrusive and more likely to stay out and be used every day instead of being dragged out only during the hottest weather.

Does the MeacoFan Sefte 6” Portable Fan offer good value for money?

At £70, the MeacoFan Sefte 6” Portable Fan isn't a budget desk fan, so it's worth being clear about what you're paying for. The value comes from the rechargeable design, compact footprint, replaceable battery, wide range of settings and the freedom to use it without trailing cables across a desk or bedroom.

The £10 price difference between the 6” and 8” models is small, so value largely depends on where you'll use it. If you have plenty of space and want cooling for a larger room, the 8”, 10" or even the pedestal fan may offer more for the money. If space is limited, the 6” makes more sense because its compact size is one of its biggest strengths.

In my home, the smaller size was a genuine benefit. It sat neatly on my desk and worked well on my son's gaming set-up without taking over the surface. During a heatwave, that convenience matters. It makes the difference between using a fan every day and leaving it tucked away because it's a nuisance.

Meaco also says the battery is replaceable, with replacement batteries available separately. That should help extend the fan's lifespan rather than turning the whole unit into waste once battery performance starts to decline.
