Beldray Antibac Pet Plus+ Upholstery Brush review: "if you've got pets, it makes a noticeable difference"

A no-fuss tool that helps me keep on top of pet hair. I’ve been using it on stair carpet, rugs and sofas - here's my honest review.

How I tested

I used the Beldray Pet Plus+ Upholstery Brush in a busy household with two scruffy terriers and two cats, one short-haired and one long-haired. Most of the testing focused on the stair carpet, which is where hair tends to get trodden in and stubborn. I also used it on rugs in high traffic areas and on upholstered furniture, including a fabric sofa that regularly collects fur.

I performed my testing alongside the Dyson V15 Detect (Mumsnet's best cordless vacuum cleaner for pet hair), using the brush first to loosen hair and then vacuuming straight after to see how much extra it lifted.

This is a simple tool, but you’ll probably use it more than expected. There’s no setup, no instructions to work through and nothing to charge. You just pick it up and start brushing.

On my stair carpet, it worked straight away. Even after vacuuming, there’s often hair stuck deep in the fibres. Running this over the same area pulled it up to the surface so it could actually be removed. You can see what it’s lifting, which helps.

Obviously, it doesn’t replace a vacuum cleaner, but it makes a big difference when you use it beforehand. Using it first meant my Dyson picked up far more than usual. If you’ve got pets, especially more than one, it makes a noticeable difference.

The squeegee side comes in handy as well. On upholstery, it moves easily over the fabric and gathers hair into small clumps you can lift off. It’s quicker than going over the same spot again and again with a vacuum attachment.

There are a few limits. It doesn’t collect the hair, so you still need to clear it away. It also struggles in corners and along edges. A narrower or pointed end would help there.

Cleaning it is easy. A quick rinse under the tap and it’s done. Hair doesn’t cling to it, so you’re not left pulling strands out or worrying about blocking the sink.

Is the Beldray Pet Plus+ Upholstery Brush good value for money?

This brush obviously won’t replace a decent vacuum, but it does help you get more out of the one you’ve already got. If you’ve spent good money on something like a Dyson and still find pet hair hanging around, this helps shift it.

Next to motorised pet tools or specialist attachments, it’s far simpler and usually cheaper. You don’t get the same all-in-one ease, but it works well for this specific job.

If you’ve got pets that shed and carpets that cling to every strand, it’s a useful extra to have around, and at £8, it's not a huge investment, either.
