How we tested

Mumsnet tester Laura put the Beko EnergySpin through its paces in her family home, over the course of twp months and over 50 laundry cycles.

Washing clothes for herself, her gamekeeper partner and their four children aged from one to four years, it's fair to say that she's thoroughly tested the washing machine's features on a range of different fabrics (including heavy duty pieces that are robust, protective and practical for a gamekeeper) as well as everyday grubbiness, stains, spills and accidents generated by her four young children.

Beko EnergySpin™ BM3WT4941IW 9kg Washing Machine: our verdict

Easy to install and start using, and from a trusted brand, the Beko EnergySpin BM3WT4941IW has straightforward controls, an easy-to-operate dial and a simple LED display.

The washing machine is quiet, with thoughtful features like a pause and add option, which Laura found, "Great for the odd sock I forget about!". It also has crease-reducing technology, although this feature is most effective on half-loads.

With its 'A' energy rating and savings of up to 35% less energy, and a price under £400, this washing machine has the potential to cut your bills in both the short and long term. Our tester Laura found the washing machine cleans exceptionally well on the energy-efficient EnergySpin cycles, thanks to Beko's innovative AquaTech features which optimise the machine's cleaning power. "Clothes come out clean and smelling good," Laura says.

However, this saving in energy consumption does mean the machine had one big drawback for Laura. "The spin only goes up to 800 so the items come out holding much more water than the other settings with faster spins," she says, "and then they take longer to dry, so it doesn’t necessarily save as much time."

Luckily, there's a drain and spin cycle to give your clothes an extra wring where needed. Laura would have liked to be able to adjust the spin speed on the EnergySpin cycles. It's an unfortunate truth that innovations in energy-efficiency often come with sacrifices when it comes to convenience.

Overall, Laura's happy with the washing machine as it cleans her family's clothes well and is very quiet about it. We think it's a great budget choice for a family washing machine.

What's the Beko EnergySpin™ BM3WT4941IW 9kg Washing Machine like to use day-to-day?

Installing the washing machine was very easy, and Laura's partner was able to do it in ten minutes flat. The control dial and screen are clear and easy to read, so the washing machine was good to go almost straight away.

Laura uses the 'mixed fabrics' cycle most often, as it's a convenient 90 minutes long but gets a full 9kg load clean and fresh. However, the non-adjustable lower spin speed on this cycle does mean the clothes either need an extra drain and spin cycle or take longer to dry on the washing line. During winter, a dehumidifier helps speed up drying clothes indoors.

With four young children and two adults in the house, Laura liked the range of cycles the Beko EnergySpin has to offer. "It has good options from 28 minutes to 2 hours 30, there’s a wash for all of my needs."

When I asked her how she felt about the washing machine after 50+ wash cycles, she said she was, "Very pleased, the clothes come out clean and smelling good."

The crease reducing technology in the Beko EnergySpin is designed to reduce the need to use a steam iron, and Laura felt it made a noticeable difference on smaller loads. On larger loads where the drum was full, however, the effect was much less noticeable.

According to Laura, the best feature of the washing machine is, "The delayed start, I’ve used that feature a lot as I can fill it on a night and set it to come on through the night, cheaper electric and it’s ready to hang out first thing in the morning."

Beko EnergySpin™ BM3WT4941IW 9kg Washing Machine

Does the Beko EnergySpin™ BM3WT4941IW 9kg Washing Machine offer good value for money?

At £349 at the time of writing, this washing machine hovers just above the cheapest ones on the market. However, for an extra £50 or so, it offers some impressive features - delay start, pause and add and crease reduction - as well as the impressive EnergySpin energy-efficiency technology that can cut down your energy bills.

When it comes to day-to-day use and convenience, Laura felt the low spin speed on the EnergySpin cycles let this washing machine down, alongside the fact she wasn't able to adjust this setting. As it means an extra drain and spin cycle or increased drying time for the laundry load, it's a stark trade-off between energy-efficiency and convenience.
