BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony review: excellent comfort for everyday babywearing

Parent tester Holly tested the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony for four weeks at home and on walks, including longer muddy routes with her five-month-old baby. She found it impressively comfortable to wear for long periods, though not always intuitive to adjust.

Our verdict

If comfort is your top priority, the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony is a strong choice. Parent tester Holly tried it when her baby was five months old - a stage when babywearing can start to feel more tiring. As she puts it: “I have quite a heavy almost six-month-old and felt this in a big way in all other baby carriers I’ve used. In comparison, the BabyBjörn did a great job of distributing his weight well.”

That support made a real difference in everyday use. Holly took the carrier on long walks over hilly, muddy ground and it stayed comfortable throughout.

After the initial setup, the Harmony quickly became a part of her daily routine. Holly was able to use the carrier independently, and it soon fitted well into family life. She says, “[My baby's] body always feels relaxed in [this carrier] even when he is not sleeping, which is a noticeable difference to how it felt in our previous carrier that wasn’t as ergonomic.”

Where the carrier loses a few marks is adjustability. It offers plenty of adjustment points, but not all of them feel quick or straightforward. Holly never felt she’d completely mastered the fit when switching between different users. For some parents, that will be a minor irritation. For others - especially those who value simplicity above all - a more intuitive design may feel more appealing.

Still, if you’re looking for a supportive carrier for regular walks, everyday babywearing and the occasional nap rescue mission, the Harmony makes a compelling case. Holly summed it up simply: “I love this carrier.” It is expensive and the fit isn’t always the quickest to fine-tune, but for comfort and support it leaves a very positive impression.

How we tested the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony

Holly tested the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony with her five-month-old over a period of four weeks. She wore it around the house, on local walks to help her baby nap and on a few longer nature outings, giving her a mix of short daily use and longer stretches of wear.

She also looked closely at the practical details that matter once the novelty of a new carrier wears off, including whether she could put it on by herself, how easy it was to take off in a hurry and how straightforward it was to readjust after her partner had used it.

During testing, she scored the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony on eight key criteria - performance, quality and durability, ease of use, value for money, safety features, ergonomic support, comfort and adjustability - to give a total score out of 100.

How easy is the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony to assemble and set up?

The BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony doesn’t require assembly, but it does need a few fit adjustments before first use. Holly had to tighten the straps, alter the head support using the poppers, and move it on from the newborn setting so her baby had more room. The carrier has two height positions - one designed for newborns and one for older babies - which help ensure your baby sits at the correct height as they grow.

She estimated that the adjustments took about five minutes, with around six minutes from unboxing to being ready to wear.

That’s fairly painless by baby gear standards, but there is a small catch. Holly managed most of the setup without the instructions, but needed help to work out the height setting properly. She says, “I also got a bit stuck on the straps that go around my baby’s arms and shoulders.”

The Harmony also has three adjustable head support positions designed to support younger babies who cannot yet hold their head up independently.

How does the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony look?

Holly described the material as “good quality and nice to the touch,” with a premium finish that still feels lightweight. She particularly liked that her baby “sinks into the body of the carrier” rather than the carrier being rigid or overly structured.

The overall effect is streamlined. Holly noted that the padding in the straps “is not immediately obvious to the eye, which helps make the carrier look classy and compact.” That’s handy if you want proper support without feeling as though you’re wearing full outdoor kit.

The version Holly tested was the light beige colour in woven mélange fabric, which has a soft brushed finish. The Harmony is also available in a lightweight 3D mesh fabric, designed to improve airflow and keep both parent and baby cooler. Across the two fabric types, the carrier is available in 12 different colourways, giving parents a good range of options depending on their style preferences.

While her partner would have preferred a darker colour, Holly’s only visual complaint was that the grey buckles “look quite big and bulky” against the cream fabric, although they didn’t make the carrier unattractive. In fact, despite that contrast, she still felt it looked “streamlined when worn, even with a bigger baby.”

How sturdy and supportive is the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony?

In everyday use, the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony feels secure and supportive. Holly found the structure reassuring once it was on, saying that “while the buckles are a bit bulky, they do make the carrier feel very sturdy,” which helped build confidence when out and about.

She also found the wide waist belt and padded shoulder straps helped distribute her baby’s weight evenly, which made longer walks more comfortable.

She was equally positive about the support it gave her baby. Holly said she could clearly see his legs sitting in the correct M position and noted how relaxed and well supported he seemed while being carried.

BabyBjörn carriers, including the Harmony, are also acknowledged by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute as hip-healthy products, meaning they are designed to support a baby’s hips in a healthy position.

In terms of safety standards, BabyBjörn states that the carrier meets European safety standard EN 13209-2:2015. The fabrics are also certified to standards such as OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, which ensures materials used are safe for babies’ skin.

What's the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony like to use day to day?

Once Holly had used the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony a few times, she found it straightforward to get on and off. There was a short learning curve at first, particularly with the waist buckle, which she initially found awkward to locate quickly when taking the carrier off.

As she put it, “I just kept this fastened and found a way to wriggle myself out of the carrier” before unfastening it once the whole thing was off. After a few more uses, though, that became much easier and more instinctive.

Just as importantly, once the carrier had been adjusted to fit her properly, Holly was able to use it independently. She could put it on by herself and get her baby in and out without help, which made it feel much more practical for everyday use rather than something that needed a second pair of hands.

It’s also designed to fold down compactly, making it easier to tuck into a pushchair basket or changing bag when you’re not using it.

How comfortable is the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony?

Comfort was one of the strongest parts of Holly’s experience with the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony and she noted that the “comfort is what makes me love it most.” She found it comfortable from the outset, and that held true over longer periods of wear too.

Compared with her previous carrier, which she said quickly put pressure on her shoulders, this one offered noticeably better support. As she put it, “I was able to carry my baby on a 2+ hour walk with no aches or pains,” which shows how well it fared over longer stretches of wear.

She was equally positive about the support it gave her more generally. Holly said the shoulder, back and waist support “works really well for me” and that she felt “well looked after in this carrier.” Her baby also seemed relaxed and supported throughout, and Holly said there were no pressure points or areas of discomfort for either of them.

While she did get warm on longer uphill walks, she felt the carrier itself was breathable, and noted that her baby was always at a comfortable temperature. The breathable design of the Harmony helps prevent babies from sitting directly against your body, improving airflow during longer walks.

That combination of comfort, support and decent airflow is a big part of what makes the Harmony so appealing.

The BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony can be used in four different carrying positions

How easy is the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony to adjust?

Adjustability was more of a mixed experience. Holly was clear that the carrier can be adjusted to suit different wearers, and in practice it worked well for both her and her partner despite their different heights and body types.

The difficulty was not a lack of flexibility, but working out how to make those finer-fit adjustments quickly. As Holly says, “The more subtle height and width adjustments that you then need to do are where I get a bit stuck. I am still not sure I’ve 100% figured out how to reliably and consistently adjust this carrier.”

She found that after her partner had used it, she often struggled to get it back to the fit she preferred, especially when she was trying to make changes with a baby who was already impatient to get moving.

The BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony offers four carrying positions: newborn, inward-facing, outward-facing and back carry, so there is plenty of flexibility as your baby grows.

Holly found the move from inward-facing to outward-facing straightforward, and said switching from front to back was fairly easy too, although she only tried back carry once because her baby was still too young for it to be part of regular use.

BabyBjörn says the Harmony is suitable from birth to around three years and is designed to fit most wearers from XS to XXL.

Does the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony come with any extras?

No, not as standard. But BabyBjörn sells optional accessories separately, including the BabyBjörn Carrier Pouch, the BabyBjörn Harmony Baby Carrier Teething Bib, and the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Winter Cover designed to fit the Harmony.

How easy is the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony to clean?

Cleaning was fairly straightforward in Holly’s experience, although she said the carrier “got quite muddy from our walks and this really shows up given the [light beige] colour [I tested]." That’s worth bearing in mind if you opt for a lighter colour option.

The good news is that the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony is low-fuss to clean. “I love that it is machine-washable though and it holds up just fine in the wash,” she adds, which makes it very practical in day-to-day use.

BabyBjörn recommends machine washing at 40°C, and says the fabric is designed to hold its shape well even after frequent washing.

Is the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony good value for money?

With an RRP of £210, the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony is certainly a premium option. Whether it feels like good value though will largely depend on how often it’s used and whether it's needed for more than one wearer.

Holly felt that “if both parents are happy to use it, I think it’s great value for money due to how comfortable it is and the fact that it’s easier to put on than some other carriers, certainly our Ergobaby Omni 360.”

She adds, “If only one parent is using it, I do think it’s a bit expensive.” That’s a fair consideration. The BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Harmony is a sizable investment, but for families who expect to use a carrier often, the comfort and support it offers may help to justify the price.
