Why do men hate us so much?

Just off the top of my head, in no particular order:

Incels
Afghanistan
Excessively patriarchal religions where women are totally subservient
Using sex workers
Human trafficking
Domestic violence
Rape
Low-level sexism
Andrew Tate, etc.
Erosion of women's rights including, but not limited to, transactivists
Shitty dating behaviour such as ghosting and negging
Drag / "womanface"

Yes, I know some of the above can be perpetrated by women, but it's usually men, isn't it?

If we consider that males use displaced aggression towards other males on females as.part of a status play then addressing the problem may include questioning males' status games, cultural definitions of success/virtue.

Nature/nurture will never be settled, I would say both have impact and it's worth trying to address the latter.

mirrensidhe · 07/09/2024 05:57

@Newgirls yes that is the point

mirrensidhe · 07/09/2024 05:55

There was a post on here, I think within the last 2/3 months and I thought it was the most brilliant summation of the lesser male I had ever read. I consider myself someone with a lot of thought but very, very poor at articulating stuff. I will search for it, I thought it summed it all up concisely, maybe someone knows what I am referring to?

Men hate women because other men hate women. From cradle to grave they are bombarded with examples of masculinity in which contempt for women is an integral part. For some reason men are more conformist than women and tend to easily take on other men's attitudes, and those attitudes are very rigid about what it means to be a man- invulnerable, sex obsessed, angry, exploitative, low empathy, contemptuous of all the tender emotions and of the other sex which represents those emotions. "Don't be such a pussy, man." is something no man wants to hear.
This explains why so many men think that if they aren't the perfect example of "tough" invulnerable masculinity, they must be women.

I suspect there is also an inborn element to it, some combination of testosterone and possibly a flaw in the Y chromosome.

At any rate, I think it's not worth much analysis, because it's like asking why murderous psychopaths kill. They kill because that's the way they are. They aren't going to change.
Men hate women because that is the way they are and they aren't going to change, except possibly to get even worse.

Mind you, there are varying degrees to their misogyny. Perhaps you'll find a mate who is low in it and be satisfied with that. You won't find one with none. It's a big part of why I prefer having no partner.

I think some men are terrified of women but I've never really understood why.

They must be terrified of us to do all the awful things they do to women.

This isn't a new thing though, men have always wanted to control, harm and kill women.

They are terrified of the tender emotions which women represent to them. They revile compassion and empathy. They know those feelings make one vulnerable, and vulnerability (which they consider weakness) is their biggest fear.

In that case, thank you for taking the time to educate us too.

You're most welcome. If you would like to learn more, please let me know. I'd be delighted.

@Happyinarcon "You could list a whole bunch of stats about women murdering and abusing their children and ask mumsnet ‘why do women hate children so much?’"

Then you'd look at the number of men doing it and say oh my god, and why do men hate children so so so much more??!

What’s your problem? Why such an attitude?

Whatever.

Whatever. There you go. Men don't actually care enough about women. We're just background noise; nags. Hysterical, hairy man haters. Karens. Bitches. We simply don't know our place.

Whatever.

*Imagine you did all that to another human being. If it wasn't their own fault, you'd be the baddie. So you have to believe women are awful nasty scheming bitches to justify your treatment of them.

Men aren't horrible to women because they hate them. Men (well, enough of them to cause endless damage) hate women because they're horrible to them.*

My God, this really hits home.

It's all just such a terrible waste of human potential. This perspective is something that makes me less angry with individual men, but more angry with the continued existence of the patriarchy.

Or conversely, none of those. I, for what its worth, don't agree with any of those labels. Some women might think men hate women - good for you. Whatever.

Well, EM - guess some want to know, others don't want to know, others only happy with voice-of-the-hive compliant answers. At the end of the day - whatever.

I never understand the mindset of males in certain cultures that forbid women to drive, vote, work, study, deal with worldly business etc. And now worse, they should just shut the fuck up, not make a sound and just fuck and cook.

Surely they can see with their own eyes, and even their limited reptilian intellect, a whole world of women who are intelligent and contributing at high levels of politics, medicine, science, research, finance, engineering etc?

Surely they see that this does not undermine men and their ability to have good sexual relationships, companionship and family life with women? In fact, the more they ‘allow’ women to be free, the happier their lives are and the better their society is?

I just don’t get it. What do they ultimately get from enslaving women like breeding animals that they couldn’t have by treating them with dignity and humanity?

Imagine you did all that to another human being. If it wasn't their own fault, you'd be the baddie. So you have to believe women are awful nasty scheming bitches to justify your treatment of them.

I didn't post on this thread until like @Beginningless I read with despair about Dominique Picol and what her husband and the 50 men he recruited did to her. There is no female equivalent to that festering clump of crimes imo; I've come across crimes of exploitation by women against men (modern slavery type crimes) but not recruiting a crowd of women to fuck a man who had been drugged into a coma.

Agree with everything you say but just to correct that Dominique is the vile husband. The victim, his wife, is Gisele Pelicot.

Because they feel entitled to free sex. And get angry when women don’t want to sleep with them

EMWaves · 06/09/2024 13:57

Hate is a strong word.

These types of threads always talk about males as if they are members of a covert group who concoct schemes away from the women, a bit like the episode of The Simpsons with the stonemasons. They don’t have secret handshakes and discuss their plans to take over the world when their wives and girlfriends leave the room.

I think previous posters who talk about men valuing women less are correct, and I agree that men don’t view themselves as a group. I think that’s a fundamental misunderstanding that’s made when these threads pop up.

Men typically don’t know what it’s like to be penetrated. I think if they did, they would have a much better understanding of what women go through sexually. They don’t appreciate how invasive it is because they can’t.

I also think there are a whole host of double standards when it comes to men and women, and men are acutely aware of this. How many times on Mumsnet are responses flipped based on the sex of the original poster? Gay men typically don’t need women in their personal lives, so they are more free to call it out, which is why some feel there’s a greater level of misogyny there - they don’t need to toe the party line. Though I’m not talking about trans issues there.

Thanks for educating us.

Men don’t hate women, the average bloke on the street is not a wife beater, has never raped anyone and is as shocked as everyone else about Afghanistan but can’t really pop over and start an NGO while struggling with mortgage payments. You could list a whole bunch of stats about women murdering and abusing their children and ask mumsnet ‘why do women hate children so much?’

Hi bloke. Please do some more reading.

Not just Paul. His authentic writings are not so misogynistic and he worked happily with women wjho hosted churches.

I suspect that when Constantine adopted Christianity as the state religion a lot of Mithraists jumped ship and brought their boys' club mentality with them. And the Sol Invictus lot.

Catsmere · 05/09/2024 22:53

Grammarnut · 05/09/2024 10:45

Agree. The early church fathers spared no pains to eradicate what Jesus actually said about women because they could get away with it. Sometimes, I think the version of Christianity now in existence should be called Paulism.

Yep, Paulianity. There's a good book on this by Hyam Maccoby - "The Mythmaker: Paul and the Invention of Christianity". Seems to be available as. PDF on the Internet Archive (my connection is too slow to open it) and the book's still on Amazon, I think.
