Not a friend of women’s sport

Several sporting bodies have stated their position since then. Harper's study has been scrutinised and its flaws highlighted. I'm hoping his thinking will have been forced to move on a bit.

Just to vent: I cannot stand this argument "yes, you can of course find if you look hard enough a few examples of transgender athletes who have gone on to perform well in their sports."
A few - really? For every transgender athlete who performs well (let's face it, men in women's sports) a whole chain of athletes has to move down one place, whether professional or amateur. So a whole chain of women lose out on their rightful medals, rankings, prize money, personal achievements. How can anyone not see that? How 'few' women missing out is enough?

Edited to add: and not just "perform well". Just by them entering, women have to move aside. Gah.

Edited

exactly. It's as good as having I'm a misogynist tattooed on his forehead. It's only women's sport, so therefore it doesn't count.

Shall we put a cheetah in the men's 100m, because it's only one?

LastTrainEast · 11/06/2024 12:34

So let's see.

He say he may be wrong but he intends to support Trans identified men anyway.

He says he is worried "a circus is being created out of something that a) is not a huge problem in sport and b) further marginalises totally unthreatening people and creates a narrative of fear around them."

He has decided it's not a problem because it doesn't hurt real people. Only women.

And further down he admits to knowing about the vicious threats (to maim, rape and kill any women who speaks up), but says you can't blame them for that.

Apparently a woman wearing Adult Human Female T-shirts is the moral equivalent in his eyes

He is exactly the kind of person the BBC should employ. He will fit in nicely and if Labour win they won't have to hold back any more.

The BBC won't give a flying fuck, in fact his attitude probably got him the job

Quite. I dont have a particular problem with this guy and his beliefs-even tin foil hat nutters are entitled to believe any old bollocks they like. However, the question really should be-who the hell appointed this hatstand? What were they thinking (if anything).

The first thing he needs to do is apologise for blocking Martina and the second is to explain his current position very clearly.

He's not going to have changed his mind in the intervening years is he.

Imnobody4 · 11/06/2024 10:45

He needs to answer some questions.

Navratilova was aghast to discover Kay-Jelski's thoughts on the matter, as she confirmed to a user online that she'd been blocked by him.
"This is pretty pathetic," she wrote on X. "Never heard of this man, looked him up here and found myself blocked.
"Once again, good to know that men apparently know what women like myself and Sharron know about biology and sports, etc. Just amazing to be this confident, no?"It was here that Harry Potter author Rowling - whose views on the topic of women's rights and gender ideology have been well-documented - took aim at the soon-to-be director of sport at BBC.She responded to Navratilova's post: "I'd say it's unbelievable for a man in his position to say these things at all, let alone block you, and yet, given the shameful state of the BBC's reporting on women's right/gender issue, it's utterly predictable." again, good to know that men apparently know what women like myself and Sharron know about biology and sports, etc. Just amazing to be this confident, no?"

I'm predicting huge backlash against this.

And I know he's trying to weasel his way around that.

Honestly another fucking man saying this.

Peskysquirrel · 11/06/2024 10:25

Thanks for all the links. Well, things have changed a lot since 2019 and women are here and ready to take on this guy.

fedupandstuck · 11/06/2024 10:15

The idea that Sharron Davis and Martina Navratilova are not experts on women's sports.... wow.

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/06/2024 10:15

I've just checked, he is 40 - so yes this happened before he was born.

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/06/2024 10:12

Well just what we need, another man telling us not to worry our pretty little heads.
Telling Sharron Davies she has no experience of this - the same Sharron Davies who missed out on a gold medal because her opponent was taking testosterone. Probably before he was even born. What a dick.

It's Alex Kay-Jelski I think. Maybe this link will work?

Wow, that's like a Greatest Hits playlist of all the disingenuous mendacious BeeeeeKind bollocks all assembled into one stinking cesspit.

Zeugma · 11/06/2024 09:42

Hurdle over with this Here
