Oh god now I see you've quoted the post! I've had a long day.

MavisMcMinty · 07/11/2023 19:22

Yes, edited to say that, sorry.

TinselAngel · 07/11/2023 19:21

Oh you mean this thread we're on?

TinselAngel · 07/11/2023 19:21

Should there be a link Mavis?

AlphaTransWoman · 05/11/2023 23:21

@BonfireLady
Yes, I got to the end of it. Thank you.

I think, however, that it is time for AlphaTransWoman to undertake the traditional "flounce" and end her visit to Mumsnet. Unless anyone particularly wants her to stick around for longer.

But I've got an awful lot out of the visit. Mostly the realisation that, despite my silly outburst about debating KJK, I'm really not ready to be an effective advocate for the transgender community because I'm still very messed up and confused about my own thinking. I hope someone better comes along to represent us and open up better lines of communication.

Having said that, I do think we've made some progress on things like single-sex spaces. I know this is still a sore point, but I think we've narrowed the gap a little on how to deal with that problem.

Meanwhile, I'll go away and ponder things. I think I need some therapy to try and disentangle some of the wires that have got crossed, or at least to be more aware of where the irrationalities are. Talking about these things here has been a useful starting point.

On the flip side, I do hope this has been of some benefit to you in understanding how at least some types of trans women think about the gender debate. I've tried not to be just another hostile TRA by being honest about my feelings, but maybe that wasn't always the constructive thing to do. Apologies if I've said things that have annoyed you, or even seemed offensive at times, but I do hope the overall benefit of raising understanding was worth it.

Thanks again,

Alpha😀

(PS - not sure why I picked such a daft name. I think I was trying to be ironic or something like that)

Here you go @TinselAngel .

Which thread did Alf finally flounce on? (Was it this one I might have missed the middle of it?)

MavisMcMinty · 07/11/2023 19:15

As a palate cleanser, @BonfireLady , have a read of the thread BoiledBeetle linked to on the previous page. An alternative way of dealing with the me-me-me-ness of our TRA visitors and very much funnier than debating/appeasing them.

BonfireLady · 07/11/2023 18:57

There has been some really useful info shared on abuse and abusers. Thank you.

Also thank you for the acknowledgements about the difficult path that parents who are caught up in this are treading. This board has been an absolute lifeline on this front, being able to explore the whole (massive) subject relating to gender identity belief.

There are so many people that come here who are at various different stages of peaking. There are also several posters - not just me - who have said that they find that debating on threads helps with gathering thoughts and understanding different aspects of why things have come to be the way that they are. In the time that I've been on this board, several debate-style threads have come and gone.

If you want to debate these men, maybe find another space to do it, not critise women for not wanting to do it here.

I'm not sure how the impression was created that I've criticised women for not wanting to do debate. I don't feel critical of anyone who doesn't want to do this. Perhaps this was an unintended consequence of me saying that IMO debate is better than no debate. I certainly don't expect any magic societal change to happen off the back of a TRA coming on to MN but I do think that the debates that have happened on here (mostly without any TRA in them at all, or with a plop and run post at most) have helped to unfold lots of different aspects of the impact of gender identity in society. The Be Kind movement is still in full swing in the public discourse and these threads are really helpful as a start point for many people. That's not just my opinion, I've seen it stated on these types of threads.

Anyway, lots of food for thought on abuse and abusers. I've had a read of some of it already and will read more later.

I hope you're not casting asparagus on my fried lettuce recipe.

Lettuce be clear. Lettuce is not food. Lettuce is what food eats.

ApocalipstickNow · 07/11/2023 18:55

Well I’ve made soup tonight so something good has come from all this (for me, at least.)

(Wonders if cooked lettuce tastes nicer than raw lettuce)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/11/2023 18:27

We normally get a slap on the wrist for recipe chat, but perhaps MNHQ had the measure of Alpha.

Tallisker · 07/11/2023 18:07

I'd love to read the bollocking Tinsel handed out, but I don't know how to find the transwidows threads. I'm sorry you had to do it yet again.

That thread is a work of art. Thank you for highlighting it. I’m only on page 1 and I bloody love it.

Froodwithatowel · 07/11/2023 13:32

Bonfire, gently and with sympathy, you were hoovered. Successfully. And used.

And you still cannot see that your reasonable engagement and being nice was what facilitated an abuser to a) have a lovely time using women, many of whom had seen through him but was still getting lots of nice bait from you to keep on chatting and building up/honing practice as pp said

and b) to then go and start using a group of women who have been through enough and had to endure an abuser turning up in the expectation of being able to play his games on them, and finding someone who'd feed him along while he got out of it what he wanted.

You enabled him to abuse other women. You prevented other women being successful in holding boundaries because you wanted to be nice and reasonable and in essence his behaviours worked really well on you .

We've all been there. We've all been through it. We've all thought our eyes were opened and then had them opened all over again, no one blames you for being sucked in.

This is 100% correct.

I hadn’t seen Alf’s thread to put the all-important man’s perspective on transwidows until it was mentioned here - what a seeing off he got, it was beautiful!

It was at the bottom of page 3 of the Relationships board when I looked, might be on page 4 now, but it’s an educative experience. Forget the exact title, but contains the words “loved ones”.

Trans people and loved ones | Mumsnet

I feel this is one of the most difficult topics of all around gender transition, but for this very reason, it's one that has to be addressed. Apologie...
