Thread 1:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4776556-a-mumsnet-thread-about-a-book-about-a-mumsnet-thread-under-the-duvet-of-darkness-written-by-the-women-of-mumsnet?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

You do not need to have read thread 1 – this is not that sort of thread.

But to recap… Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

“Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” was published as a paperback on 31st March 2023.

Available on Amazon only: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C129WKDD

In a rather bizarre turn of events at one point it reached No 2 in poetry best sellers and No 5 in Feminist Criticism best sellers. No one will be surprised to discover that a book that is in the main about people, especially men, claiming to be something they are not was kept off the No1 spot in poetry best sellers by a crime novel, identifying as poetry, written by a man ;-)

E-BOOK:

Some people wanted an e-book rather than a paperback, but for that we needed someone who could actually make an e-book and some extra poems.

FairyKindleMother came to the rescue with regards the e-book and posters wrote enough poems that we could add 20 more poems into the e-book.

I pressed publish on the e-book a few hours ago. It can take usually up to 3 days to appear and populate all the info etc on the various sites, and there is always the chance they knock it back for some reason. But I've done all I can do at this point. We just have to wait and see who spots it on sale first! It will appear on the Amazon link above hopefully soon, (or I'll get an email asking me to change something).

MONEY FROM SALES OF ALL FORMATS:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.

“It’s not hate to defend your rights, and it’s not hate to speak the truth.”
Magdalen Berns (1983 – 2019)

As I started work on the e-book posters continued to write poems. So we had a choice: leave them there, languishing on the thread, unloved, forgotten, never to have their words uttered again OR we could just do volume 2.

Posters voted for Volume 2 but we still need more poems!

And that’s the gist of thread 1.

Dear @Boiledbeetle

Not sure if there is a more uptodate thread, but have finally received my Volume 2.

It arrived at 18:10 today, and I've finished it already. Have cried, laughed and even (daringly) shared a little with DH (he is like an ostrich, it doesn't affect him, so he is sticking his head in the sand).

Thank you!

@Boiledbeetle get well soon!!

cough, cough cough.

I'm currently wrapped in a blanket with a fan heater at my feet and a purring cat on my lap who digs her claws in every time I cough! I am going back to my nicely made with fresh bedding (offers silent thanks to the cleaning fairy) bed as soon as I've done a few more computery bits!

I found the original thread to ask about the ebook then found a new book and an ebook!

I've bought the second volume of poetry.

As I already own the first book )see picture for proof) is there anyway to get the ebook a bit cheaper than £5.99 please?

Also will the second volume be available as an ebook and same question re digital copy bundled in with print copy.

I'll keep the digital versions and pass the paper books onto my cousins.

Thanks

Hi Romeo,

Thank you for buying the first one and the second one. The second one is hopefully winging it's way to you as I type!

E-books - Because this is all done by me and then FairyKindleMother there is a lag on the e-books as until I've finished the paper version she can't do the e-book version as she needs my finished file to be able to create the electronic version (we tried doing it as I went along this time, but it didn't work as I make too many changes as I get to various stages!) So the second volume e-book will hopefully be available soon but unlike me FairyKindleMother has to do it round her proper job. Plus volume 2 is twice the size of volume 1!

With regards the price of the e-books because these book are produced to raise funds for For Women Scotland any reduction in the price comes straight off the money that is donated to them as Amazon still take their cut regardless of what price I sell them at. So there is no plan at the moment to reduce the cost of the e-book.

Having said all that can you check your PM's on here.

Bb.

No, we sailed a couple of hours ago, been alongside because of bad weather. It's quite bright and pleasant off the Northeast coast, with a good forecast for the next few days.

OK, duly noted and will try to remember to get it for the kindle after the 15th. I'm currently bobbing about at sea.

It's currently only in paperback, there will be an e-book, but unlike me @FairyKindleMother has a proper job that comes first.

Hopefully it won't be too far behind!

Hopefully you are somewhere where the weather isn't throwing you and the ship around like a cat juggling live mice!

I heard yesterday that ds who is 8 is also going to be published this year in a national school poetry book. It's a book called This Is Me. Just my eldest now to write and publish something. I had a poem published in a magazine in my 20s and my grandad wrote a book about his experience of serving in WW2. He sort of self-published and got a friend to print and bind it. He also wrote two books about his profession which were published officially. He'd be very proud of us all although probably not the actual content 😬

I do. But you'll have to wait and see!

And @BonfireLady if you're reading this, keep your mouth shut 😉as you know one of them for reasons that people will discover when they buy it.

They're has to be some surprises after all.

Some of them took a bit of sourcing. But I think They work quite well!

Ha ha! My lips are sealed.

Beetle, pour yourself a big fuckoff drink and forget about the poems for a while. They'll keep.

Do you have the chapter titles and are you allowed to share?
