Inspired by the largest families thread. How old is the oldest person you know/ have known? In my extended family and husband's family a fair few people lived into their nineties. My Grandad turned 95 last week and I think he's the oldest, great grandkids all at school now! Beamed all the way through his birthday celebrations, it was so lovely to see!

In the Late 90s my student holiday/ weekend job was working in a care home. Best job ever IMO - I was looking after old ladies born when Queen Victoria was on the throne (late 1890s). One particular lady I remember was 101, had no teeth but enjoyed dry Weetabix spread with butter every morning for breakfast. I loved my old people and it was an honour and a privilege not just to care for their basic needs but to spend time sitting with them, chatting about the old days - a time we couldn't possibly imagine ourselves. They’ll be long gone now but I still think about several of those characters often.

My maternal grandmother lived to 98. My parents are still alive and reasonably well at 92 and 90.

Great uncle 104
My nan 102
I used for work in A&E years ago and we'd occasionally get someone who was 105/106 and born in the 1890's.

I worked in a care home and had the pleasure of caring for two sisters, both in their 100's. They used to play scrabble every night and argued fiercely with each other. I looked after another lady of 106 who used to watch University Challenge and answer the questions before the contestants did. My dad died at 98, mum's still going at 94, fit, healthy and independent, and her brother is 97, also fit and well, although very reluctantly stopped driving at 90.

When I was at school in the 1970s, we had a 90-year-old former pupil who went to the school when Queen Victoria was still on the throne. I have met older people, like my Mum who live to 95, but this guy was very impressive, still full of energy and had lived in a vastly different era.

My Grandma died 2 weeks before her 100th birthday.

My gran lived to 101. My own parents are doing very well in their early 90s.

A great-aunt (well, she was actually a second cousin but we called her 'auntie') who lived to 97.

She had many friends but never married or, as far as we know, had a partner - I wonder if that was her secret to a long life!

RaggedRocks · Yesterday 11:05

I meant to say he came to talk to us about school life in the Victorian times, then he raced all comers over 100 metres, but we had to give him a head start

RaggedRocks · Yesterday 11:06

90 was very old for a man in the 1970s, like 100 today

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · Yesterday 11:07

Great aunt, 101.

LovelaceBiggWither · Yesterday 11:09

Grandmother 103.

LetMeStayInBed · Yesterday 11:09

My Aunt died the day before her 100th birthday. Her husband died 2 years before her at 98. They were married 75 years.

Personally probably my husbands gran, she was 98.

Utterlyscrumpled · Yesterday 11:15

My great-grandmother made it to 112. She was briefly the oldest person in Britain.

My great aunt lived to 104. She was able to live at home with help the whole time which is lovely.

My friend is I think 96 now. She was in great form last time I saw her but that was a while ago. She could still socialize in restaurants and pubs and travel on the tube for miles! She loved driving and was always doing that before I think they took her licence. I'm hoping she's still like that now but I could imagine things must've got a bit tougher.

I work in a care home and the eldest I looked after was 106.

Uncle by marriage 95. Still lives on his own (my aunt died at 91) and tends his beloved garden.

ByFirmShaker · Yesterday 11:30

My Grandparents on one side lived to 99 and 100.

I worked in a residential home as part of my degree in 2018, and there was a resident there who was 107. She was amazing!

98 my grandfather. He had a fall at 98 and broke his hip. They fixed it but he never walked again and died three months later. Before the fall he was living independently with his ten years younger wife.

My granda and was 97 when he died 29 years ago. I've never spoken to anyone older. A family friend died this year at 101 but I hadn't seen him in years although my mum had.

TheeNotoriousPIG · Yesterday 11:58

My grandmother is 98, having surpassed the ages of many of her cousins to get to that age... apart from one, who died at 105, and was still out dancing twice a week until not long before her death!

I used to work in a nursing home and our oldest resident was sharp as a tack at 104. She ate well, used her zimmer to do loops of the building every day and was always up for a natter when you were helping her out in her room. She had her 4 cards from the late Queen out on display and was proudly waiting for her 5th but sadly died a few months beforehand.
