Inspired by the largest families thread. How old is the oldest person you know/ have known? In my extended family and husband's family a fair few people lived into their nineties. My Grandad turned 95 last week and I think he's the oldest, great grandkids all at school now! Beamed all the way through his birthday celebrations, it was so lovely to see!

I met a lady who was in her 100s when I was ten in the 1980s. I distinctly remember feeling really sad and sorry that she was a ‘Miss’ because, as she explained, she’d once had a lovely and very handsome fiancé who, like so many of that generation, didn’t make it back from the trenches. Miss Walsh, i remember you and your lovely fiancé.

A family friend is 101. She was chuffed to get her card but it doesn't look a great life from the outside.

I know a 103 year old lady....she's fabulous.
She still lives in her own home and needs very little assistance

My mom is an extremely fit and healthy 92 yrs old, using Instagram, FB and Whatsapp chatting to her grandkids around the world. Dad was 93 when he passed away. Various uncles and aunts in early 90s & all healthy & independently living.

Smallandnosy · Yesterday 22:48

My great aunt died two weeks before her 108th birthday. My mother is nearly 99.

Redrosesposies · Yesterday 22:56

My great (maiden) aunts were 107 and 105 when they died. Their younger sister was still getting the bus twice a week from her home 20 miles away at the age of 90 to clean the house for them.
Parents both 91 now, both a bit deaf and stiff when they've sat for too long but still manage very well without any help.

Do I win the thread? DH's granny was 109 when she died in about 2021. Second oldest I've known was my cousin's granny who was 103 when she died last year.

My FiL is nearly 98, his mother died when she was nearly 102, his father at 98. Longevity rules in their family?

maximist · Yesterday 23:01

My great-aunt is 101, has all her marbles, and is still living alone in her own home (with carers coming in). She’s amazing!

SummerbodyIwish · Yesterday 23:43

My beautiful grandma. Lived until she was 108. She was amazing. Cooked Christmas dinner when she was 100

My auntie is currently 92, my uncle lived to 92 (still riding his bicycle at 89!) and my mum lived to 90. All on mum’s side of family. Dad’s side dropped off their perches much earlier. My dad lived the longest of them all and was 81 when he died, but his siblings were much younger.

My friend’s lovely mum is 106. She looks amazing for her age. And still as bright as a button.

Local man 99, he was driving up to 98 and a half and only gave it up because he fell over a kerb getting out the parked car and gave himself a fright 🥲, he was a marvellous man, had all his faculties and was full of joy. He always said "i dont want to live to 100, no way, everyone thought he would as he was so sprightly. He got his wish, he passed 1 month before his 100th birthday. ❤️💔

RedThroatedWarbler · Today 00:34

111!
She is one of the oldest people in the UK.
Lives just up the road from me, with her daughter, who isn't exactly young herself!

My Grandma made it to 110. She passed away earlier this year.

One of my neighbours is 107.

My friend's aunt, who I know, will be 104 soon. There was a woman in a local rest home who died at 107 a few years ago, my late DM used to visit her. There are quite a number of people who are 100 in my small town, including a man who lives nearby and who I see carrying his groceries home from the supermarket and I believe he still plays golf.

Forgot to say, the first woman and the man live at home alone with no carers.

My great grandma was a month away from her 100th birthday when she died a couple of years ago

DeepLimeBird · Today 12:00

My friends grandfather is 104, he still goes to the shop every day for a newspaper and into the pub for a pint. He’s a very handsome man as well!

Norwaygirl · Today 12:16

Friend's Grandad lived to be 103.

Seaswim21 · Today 12:30

When working as a carer we had a lady who was 109 when she passed. Next was 105 I think
