One thing that I’ve been thinking about, and not sure if people have any thoughts on this, is this sort of case has happened countless times - a mother experiencing postpartum depression/psychosis has harmed herself and/or her children. I do wonder if one of the reasons that this case in particular has garnered so much attention is that it’s a middle-class, well educated white woman on the line. I do wonder if empathy would’ve been the same if it was a working class ethnic minority. It’s a bit like the Madeleine McCann case. Plenty of kids go missing but none generated as much interested as this little blonde girl who had doctor parents. I think it’s a good thing that the world is learning more about postpartum depression/psychosis but it also makes me sad that it’s taken this long.

I can’t see anything good in this as I just think of the dc and their emotions.

You can’t see the good in people becoming more aware of the symptoms surrounding postpartum depression/psychosis? You don’t think greater awareness of it could save lives? We know from academic studies that women are not taken as seriously as men when it comes to reporting mental illness or even physical pain. If anything this case has shown what can happen when mental illness is not managed properly and that could save lives.

Not necessarily, plenty of people are saying that mental illness is being used as an excuse and that she planned it carefully before committing the act. That isn’t my thoughts, but many others think that.

She’s a cold blooded killer that murdered her children and her husband is just as guilty as she is. No sane person would allow someone who had voiced intent to harm their children anywhere near those kids. He should’ve sent those kids to either of their parents and informed her doctor of her intentions. All those saying she was let down by medical professionals - she was in and out of appointments, in-patient and out-patient care, had been diagnosed and prescribed medication. The commanding voice that was heard once and never again is a cover story, and her myriad trips to Drs and hospitals is the creation of a backstory.

I just find it so distressing to consider what the dc went through. Ik many posts concentrate on LC or PC but I my thoughts just go to them.

She slit her own wrists and jumped out of the window afterwards which is why she is now paralysed in a wheelchair. This was obviously a mental breakdown.

I do still think she should go to jail or a mental health facility though.

She didn't jump out of the window.
She dangled out and slid down the wall.

Is that a fact? Genuine question. There were no witnesses and she can’t remember so how is that known?

I suggest you watch this. LC put herself in a locked psyche ward the month of the killings. Honestly, listen to the psychiatrist and think to yourself if they did a reasonable job. They didn’t bother to obtain her past medical records, they took LC’d word for how much medication she was on (why on earth you’d take the word of someone who has literally just checked themselves into a mental institution?!), and everything was disjointed. You honestly think she received first-class care? This doctor can’t even answer the questions put to her:

As much as I think the woman is guilty and needs to spend the rest of her life locked away the experts were very clear she went head first out of the window. It was a genuine suicide attempt.

I’ve only ever seen reports of her jumping. Either way what she did before is not the behaviour of someone sane.

She shouldn't have been left alone with those little children. Either they lock her up for good in a mental institution or a jail. Nothing will bring them back, but looking at her eyes, there's nothing there now. Like the prosecution said, she killed her kids so she could kill herself, but it didn't work.

She took pills, cut her wrists And jumped, resulting in her bring paralysed from the chest down. I assume the paramedics and er staff evaluated her injuries. She was let down by everyone and is claiming damages. I can't link but this court case can be read online. The children should not have been left in her sole care.

There is something deeply unsettling about this case. I can't tell if Patrick had something to do with the deaths or whether he is "just" totally checked out and tone deaf. Ive read he left her alone to go skiing and fired the nanny, all while she was struggling with small kids. He then moved away 3 months after the murders, sold their house and took all the money, plus loads of money raised online, and he's remarried before his first wife even has her verdict.
Meanwhile she's stuck in hospital, her parents paying her legal fees, paralysed forever, admitting to murders that she can't remember.
It just doesn't sit right with me.

That’s not true. She abstained serious injuries (her spine literally exploded in parts) so much so when she got to hospital she was intubated, received blood transfusions and had to had tubes put in her chest. She communicated to the doctors she wanted to sign a DNR. The doctors refused as they didn’t think she had capacity and then she went into surgery and went into cardiac arrest and they brought her back around. If they had agreed to the DNR that she requested, she’d be dead.

I think the same but many of my friends disagree

She sought help and no one seemed to give it to her. I’ve a feeling husband was no help either. I remember with my first who never slept I was so sore all over they tested me for various illness to eventually tell me it was exhaustion. On telling my husband (ex now) he just walk away and nothing changed. Luckily I’m strong mentally.

I agree, could family and husband have had her detained, it feels like there were missed opportunities

That's the prosecution's theory based on the blood stains down the wall and on the windowsill

Disappointed100 · 05/09/2026 19:36

Would a nurse have to google to find out where the carotid artery is......?

That’s rubbish. She threw herself head first out of the window. Please listen to the doctors and nurses that attended her.

Literally in a few comments further up you said she didn’t throw herself out of the window, she slid down. There’s nothing to back that up at all. The woman’s spine exploded and she’s paralysed. She went into cardiac arrest. That doesn’t happen from sliding out of the window feet first.

It seems that the law Massachusetts is indeed more complex than has been suggested in relation criminal responsibility. To be deemed not criminally responsible the person must have a mental disorder and also that disorder must cause them to either

lack the substantial capacity to appreciate the wrongfulness (or criminality) of their conduct

or

lack the substantial capacity to conform their conduct to the requirements of the law.

What were you expecting him to do? His ex wife put herself in hospital, she paralysed herself after she killed his family. He didn't ask for any of this. He is a victim of Lindsay too. If moving away, moving on with someone else is what he needs to get through this absolutely horrific event then I don't see anything wrong with that.

Lindsay decided to throw herself out a window, she decided to strangle their children one after another. He and their children didn't get a choice in any of this. She took that away, why should he care if she rots away in her wheelchair in hospital?

Given what happened to his dc he’s not going to be feeling too amenable to LC.
