"Stating that men are responsible for the vast and overwhelming majority of violent crime is misandry?"

You have also misread or misunderstood my point.

I didn't deny that men are responsible for the vast majority of violent crime but some are committed by women and in such cases these are also blamed indirectly on men denying that these women have agency.

In this case there are plenty of women who blame Patrick for the killings directly when there is no evidence he killed his children. Why purely on the basis of his sex - and statistics.

or indirectly by not doing enough to helping her

They were a wealthy family, able to afford inpatient treatment for her at McLean Hospital, plus all the other doctors, psychiatrists, and therapists she saw.

There is a mixed view on how affluent they actually were. Varying views I should say. Some say they were not well off by US standards.

i don’t think she was diagnosed with PPP despite repeatedly seeking help for symptoms that pointed in that direction

She was admitted to hospital and she left to enjoy her child's birthday party earlier in the month they were killed. She was on low doses of medication that she took inconsistently and yet her defence is that she was over medicated. It is unusual for a mother to kill her children in such a brutal way the first time they hear a command voice. And the command voice did not tell her what to do, how to do it, those came from her own mind. This was established in the evidence. The support for this woman is just horrific.

Well the trial has collapsed as the jury could not agree, so it's not just observers who are not sure. One juror refused to go along with the other 11 apparently, but we don't know if the 11 found her G or NG.

Anyhow I believe she was very ill. Planning this was not impossible in the throes of psychosis.

There was a case in Ireland recently where the mother, also a nurse killed her three children. She was found not guilty but insane and is being held in secure psychiatric prison/hospital. It was a horribly similar case.

What’s interesting re this other case you’ve shared is that the prosecution and defence - and all medical experts - agree that she was NGRI. There’s a lot of cases in the US where the same happens, it’s unanimous. The difference with Lindsay (and why everyone is so fascinated) is that it’s really not clear nor unanimous. And having watched the trial there are many many reasons for that.

This is a fair point @Disappointed100

I don't get how it's a fair point. Regardless of whose idea it was, regardless of how she seemed, she has made it very clear to him that she isn't in a good way, and she was therefore not left alone. Her mother slept beside her due to her extreme concern. (she also says that is why she googled how long the journey would take, as she was concerned at being alone).

Yet going to collect a takeaway - and being in no rush to return (eg sending an email from his car) was fine?? He could have taken the kids with him, or they all could have gone, or he could have arranged for it to be delivered, etc

Able to afford a nanny three days a week. Hardly below the poverty line.

I absolutely believe this to be the case too. She was not diagnosed with post part psychosis, she heard the supposed voice this one time only in the exact time frame her husband was running errands that she orchestrated. It is all very convenient. She was using exercise bands again to exercise whilst in hospital. She is cold, calculated and she didn't enjoy her children.

or while she was killing the kids (or not), it was literally Patrick who was telling her to kill them, and not in her head at all....

I've been following this case from the beginning, In my opinion LC was a very mentally unwell woman that did try to get help, she has since been diagnosed with bipolar 2.

My thoughts are the she was suicidal and didn't want to be on this earth anymore, she however had the belief that her children would have been better off dead than living in this world without her.

Ah yes, “they’d be better off dead””, the rationalisation used by suicidal family annihilators the world over.

You sound like you it you think it’s some sort of reasonable, understandable rationale. Do you?

What? Everyone who heard the 911 call in court where he is screaming in pure torture at finding his kids in the basement said it was the most horrific thing they ever heard. She did kill her kids, she has admitted this. She used exercise bands to methodically strangle them to death.

Well there is indirectly if someone tells you that they aren’t safe around the kids and have thoughts of harming them (stated under oath) you don’t leave that person alone with the kids

it is also a baffling choice to cancel the baby when someone is on the decline mentally and cannot cope with the children

People are making up the most ludicrous scenarios, simply to avoid accepting a mother murdered - strangled with an exercise band - her small children, one by one.

I am sure she was not well, but she also planned this, and all the evidence demonstrates considerable pre-planning.

My reading, informed by my own personal story is that the support isn’t so much a support of the outcome (which is horrific) it’s an empathy with the feeling she was feeling prior, and a sense of being able to see oneself in parts of her story (I certainly can)!

She was having side effects to meds, and most of the prescriptions were inappropriate. It is relatively common that people with serious mental illness fail to their medication consistently even though in this case thé meds were not appropriate and there was a reason for it,

And she spoke coherently to her husband on the phone whilst in the midst of killing them and in a supposed trance like state under the control of this command hallucination (that had never occurred before). Why people are rushing to defend this woman in light of the actual facts is just something I cannot comprehend. Those children were brutally murdered by their mother in a planned and methodical fashion.

I haven't followed this closely, so I can't have an opinion on whether she was severely mentally unwell or not.
However, in my experience of caring for a couple of women with severe post partum psychosis (which is NOT the same as post partum depression), if she was diagnosed with PPP, I cannot understand why she was not hospitalised in a high dependency psychiatric unit with 1 to 1 care until stabilised on effective treatment.

She wasn’t diagnosed with PPP before she murdered her children.

I listened to the expert evidence in court, from one of the psychiatrists that gave evidence for the prosecution. It was even mentioned in closing arguments. HTH.

Her defence lawyer is maintaining that she was like a puppet under the control of this voice. So she was not in full awareness of her faculties.

Why is that not part of her defence then? Is it because you are just making this up in your own mind because you are somewhat strangely attached to this notion?

Livpool · 05/09/2026 11:26

CloverAndGrass · 04/09/2026 17:05

If it was mental illness, it was a strangely carefully planned case of loss of control, with the unusual ability to talk calmly to her husband in the middle of the murders and know she shouldn’t tell him what she was doing. I find it very hard to understand how people can read the details and still believe she didn’t chose to murder her poor children.

Completely agree.
