She was probably instructed by The Firm not to say anything.

probably. But in the Oprag interview, they could say anything. They spoke of broken dog bowls and necklaces, lipgloss and shopping trip and bigger issues of racism. But not a hint of this. In any case, the sin is Thomas M's alone and him alone. Meghan hasnt abused any children and should not have to be burdened with it. But yeah, given their desire to speak the truth - according to them - no matter what it costs them, am surprised they did not even hint that " there are things about my father that are too complicated to speak of now, and that is why we cut off". They only said it was because of the pics in Mexico which got people asking well questions. Also allegations came in 2018 yet Harry never met him in the 2 years prior. But I do remember asking myself if he ever abused her or someone she knew and that is why she never let him meet? Still gaps in info but that is up to them, They have a right to privacy (Except when kids are being abused one must do all they can against it). Same (and more) can be said of the RF and everyone of its members

Always felt for Meghan. A lot of commentators (not on MN I mean generally) are/have been really nasty about her. So she's an ambitious, glamorous woman who wants the best out of life? So what? Celebrities should be larger than life characters or else what's the point of them?
It was also weird how some wanted her to publicly thank her father for just doing the basic stuff that a father should do, and if memory serves, she spent a LOT of time being looked after by her friend's mum while he worked, when she lived with him.
I'm quite relived that the public are returning to a more traditional attitude to our royal family, I don't remember any if much fawning in the 80s.

RaggedRocks · 23/10/2026 11:50

Poor Arch and Lil, effectively no grandparents from now on.

Butteredtoast55 · 23/10/2026 11:50

RaggedRocks · 23/10/2026 11:39

Harry just needs to divorce her and find someone more acceptable to the British people.

Oh, come on! I'm no fan of either of them but why on earth should he divorce her? If you believe them, they're very much in love and happy together. Its up to them what goes on in their marriage but saying he should divorce her because of what her father is alleged to have done is ridiculous.
I would say, however, that if the letter in 2018 is true, it's highly disingenuous to leave it at 'i thought the police were dealing with it'. Either they found something - in which case, absolutely keep yourself and your future children safe (but surely we're this the case, it would be public knowledge), or they didn't - in which case it's a ropey excuse not to at least speak to him. It also troubles me that they were clearly ready to believe the allegations in that letter. Its a mess and, in the midst of it all, there are abused children. Horrible.

BunnyBunbunbun · 23/10/2026 11:50

Instead of raising the issue of the 2018 letter and commenting on her own relationship with her father, justifying why she never saw him, why she didn't want her kids around him, making digs at the media - all of which only raises more questions about just what she's alluding to and just what she knew, as well as being a bit grandstanding and using this issue to promote an image of herself - she would have been better off either not releasing a statement (at least not on the very same day as the story broke) or released a far less "hard-hitting" statement about how she is shocked by the accusations, hopes any children are ok, and is waiting for the results of the investigation. Instead, she releases a statement that is actually putting herself in a more difficult position (what did she know from 2018? What if her father is cleared? Why did she make some gestures towards her father in the intervening time?).

Mossyfox · 23/10/2026 11:50

Six years for an investigation. That's a very long time.

I would not be surprised if this literature was "planted" to create even more victimisation and deflection.

Yup. This...

BunnyBunbunbun · 23/10/2026 11:42

The little dig about the media was uncessary though, especially as The Sun broke this story. Not saying she should love the tabloids, but using this issue to make a point about something else is unnecessary.

I'm intrigued by what she apparently learnt in 2018 (ironically from the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection) and what happened to that investigation. Given that there was no arrest or extradition warrant against her father back then, does that mean the investigation found nothing?

At least her statement makes it very clear that she is not making any personal allegations against her father.

Just my personal opinion, but if I was in this situation in addition to saying how these allegations are horrendous, hope any children involved are ok, I would also add something but about how we should wait until the results of the police investigation are made available (if there is one). At present, all we have are a set of accusations.

Meghan's statement just seems to raise many more questions about what she knew and what she's implying, which a well-crafted statement would not do.

Edited

It would not surprise me if the allegations allegedly sent to the Met in 2018 came from TMJr, who was busy offloading about his family, including a video about his father’s activities in the past in Thailand, and a letter he sent to one of the UK papers setting out why he thought his sister, Meghan, was a dangerous person. The entire Markle clan were going off at each other back then. The united front only came later.

I'm not sure I agree about the glamorous but she could have had the best, most amazing life as a member of the royal family, yet she blew it.

Wonder if that's why she distanced herself from him.

Ugh and it sounds like her half sister who was also slating Meghan off on various shows, was defending him as well 🤢😡

Janiie · 23/10/2026 11:52

2018??

I mean you'd surely expect some kind of progression of an 'investigation' in 8yrs wouldn't you?

I don't have a narrative thanks. I dont see it any if my business to judge someone on who they dis or didnt attend the wedding and whether or not they were invited. Nor do I sit and speculate on it either when there are a myriad of reasons on why people don't attend weddings.

I've read your posts - Meghan is always the victim.

Thing is a lot of what she blamed for is very unfair and often Harry fault but she human and she makes mistakes - a lot.

I assume you do not like me mentioning the wedding as her behavior was so odd - not just round her father which these allegations make explain to a huge extent - but with so much else.

She chose to have a huge wedding and take tax payer money for secuity then publically moaned about being forced to have a big wedding. All very odd.

TBH I think she was in a very diffcult position once shown the alligations round her father - there's been no prosecutions and she must love him - so knowing what do do must have been incredibly hard for her on many levels and I think her decsion to stay away to protect her kids was very brave - but also to write when he was ill understandable.

I'm sure more will come out - it always seems to.

100% agree. Its really good that she put out a heartfelt statement that recognises the victims but - and I'm not a frothing hater with nothing better to do - this is why there's so much fodder for the PR Disasters threads. They always tie themselves in knots.
Anyway, on this occasion, I feel enormously sorry for her and hope she's OK.

PistachioTiramisu · 23/10/2026 11:57

How very convenient that this issue has come to light when she is trying to gain sympathy and interest in her exploits!

Onebigsham · 23/10/2026 11:57

Not surprised in the slightest . Some of the posters are the self same posters who said that Meghan was evil, wicked, cruel for not allowing her father to see the children . Now it turns out that he is allegedly a paedophile now they are questioning why she wrote to him when his leg was amputated if she was aware of the allegations
The woman can’t win
Her detractors are just pissed off because they can’t use the well worn stick they have beaten her with ‘ look at how she treats her poor , elderly father’.
They all have egg on their faces

Why then did she monetise her relationship with her father in eg, the Netflix series by talking about him at all? Why are you blaming the public for believing HER words about why she and her father fell out? There was absolutely no reason for Meghan to say anything about her father other than perhaps issuing an official statement that it was a private family matter. Meghan herself created the narrative around her relationship with her father, both before her marriage to Harry via the Tig, via her speech at the UN etc, and then again afterwards publicly speaking about the reason for distancing herself from him. If she gave false reasons for the distance, it is not the public’s fault for believing her lies and drawing a conclusion based on them.

By not being clear about what that letter said, what she knew, what any investigation found, she's just muddying the waters and throwing aspersions and insinuations around for the sake of justifying her own relationship to her father. All she's done is invited all sorts of questions about her own family relationships, her relationship with her father, what she knew, why she didn't say anything, what exactly did that letter say, who sent it, what the police investigation found, why someone would write to the UK police about someone living in the US with alleged crimes allegedly committed in the US. She's just invited more tabloid speculation - despite her little dig about the media.

Apparently Thomas Jr only recently found out about his father's alleged proclivities. Didn't Meghan ever mention the 2018 letter to him?

At least Meghan is clear that her father never did anything untoward to her.

My posts do not call her a victim.

You write she gets unfair flack oh wsit isnt that what I often say, stop testing down on a woman endlessly. So we agree on that then.

Now you move the goalposts on the wedding from it being about no family being invited to it being about taxpayers money.

You know no I don't find her behaviour odd. I don't slwnd my time or energy concerned over styff from years and years ago about a person I don't know personally. I don't have a parasocial relationship with famous people.

If I did mind about my money being spent on her wedding then I am also going to mind it being spent on any royal family wedding.

Meghan's statement strongly implies that he didn't. The letter sent in 2018 (although it's not clear whether it was before or after her wedding and just when it was shared with her) appears to be the first time that she had been made aware of Thomas Sr's alleged proclivities.

I was never a fan of Megan, I thought she was a social climbing snob, who snubbed her (incredibly) embarrassing family. Obviously these developments / allegations put a whole new slant on things.

In some situations it is okay to leave your incredibly embarrassing loved ones behind. Some children are born to break the mould and shouldn’t be lumbered with media prostitution from their families.

A person can have multiple reasons as to why, her reason she gave at the time is still valid. I wouldn't be making public that my Dad has been accused of something until it was investigated and proved. What would you do if it was your Dad? Go running to the press and everyone you know telling them, hey I think my Dad is xyz.

There’s a video from way back of Thomas jr saying that when he was a teenager, his father went to these places and came back with lurid stories of his activities. A YouTuber called Our Recollections May Vary put together a load of videos/interviews by all the Markles, which showed how they had chopped and changed their stories at any given time. Jr was not at all pleased about this and went on a campaign against this YouTuber. TMJr is not a reliable narrator - none of the Markles are.

weegielass1 · 23/10/2026 12:04

I don't understand if it was known in 2018, why wasn't he questioned / arrested / investigated then? Why take 8 years?
Unless this gives a convienient excuse for MM to jump on as the reason for going NC with her family in 2018. Show us the letter Meghan!
