Apologies if there's already a thread, I couldn't see one.

Anyone else watching?

Supernatural thriller set on an oil rig off Scotland.

It's got Iain Glen (that's me, I'm in 😁), Martin Compston, Marc Bonnar, Richard People, Ser Alliser Thorne from GOT, a new Scottish actress (who's good) and Rochendra Sandall.

I'm deliberately not reading any reviews as I'm enjoying it and don't want to be put off.

I suspect once the current cast saw the finished cut/read the reviews, the chances of getting them back for Rig II diminished significantly.

I hate what seems to be the thing now, that they don't resolve anything because they're angling for a second series. It makes the whole thing pointless.

This.

It's like writing a book, getting half way through the drama and then not being competent enough to write an ending because you can write suspense and drama but not tie up that suspense and drama into even a mild conclusion of events.

Given that this was site driven drama that makes it worse. Yes events in the rest of the world were ongoing but at least concluding that phase of events as in real life would be better.

Awful ending.

Shaunyboy did a video about The Rig - he was not a fan! (Spoilers if you've not seen it)

I love the cast individually but although i have never never taken illicit drugs in my life I think I would have benefited from doing so to get through it

But it was resolved and I really don't see how there could be a season two

Just finished it. Definitely think there could be a season 2.

Agree re lack of chemistry between Martin and the American. I wonder if they were playing it that way as you'd need to hide a relationship on a rig.

How could there be an season two??

Binged watched this yesterday, thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes not the best script in the world but by the end of it I was thinking I hope they do a season 2.

How can they lol

I saw Mark Bonnar on stage in Twelfth Night a few years ago and his stage entrance was bare chested. The whole audience swooned. Seriously one of the sexiest things I've ever seen. I didn't know who he was for years.

His performance in The Unforgotten absolutely broke my heart.

LydiaBin · 27/01/2023 21:51

We're watching the final episode now. I don't think I've ever seen a cast of actors working so hard to make a script sound like real life human speech.

I've just googled Mark Bonnar Twelfth Night. Blimey. He wears a white t-shirt rather well.

It was very creaky - a bit like Doctor Who meets Scooby Doo. The plot was silly.

Both Dh & I found the American woman annoying.

Ciri · 23/01/2023 15:41

Really poor I’m afraid. Brilliant cast, crap script and production. Those fake plants looked like they were off the reduced shelf at home bargains.

clearly lined up for a season 2 but who actually gives a shit?

beguilingeyes · 23/01/2023 15:36

I lost interest when they killed Mark Bonnar off #shallow

ForeverMessy456 · 21/01/2023 06:33

It's terrible !!!

Enjoyed episode 1

Episode 2 was ok

Episode 3 I was losing the will

Episode 4&5 I genuinely wanted to give up

Episode 6 was promising then the ending was awful

Gwdihooooo · 21/01/2023 06:28

I tried to watch it but dh works on a rig in the NS and he kept picking out flaws… down to the accents of the actors. He said if they truly worked on a rig you wouldn’t be able to understand them 🤣

Andypandy799 · 21/01/2023 06:27

Started watching and I thought the chi graphics were shocking and looked very cheap and unrealistic

wizzler · 21/01/2023 06:23

@AaandAway Grin

I kept wondering why Emily kept going outside without a coat

Very odd but love Mark Bonnar in anything

boboshmobo · 21/01/2023 06:17

Everyone raves about these actors but I find them so wooden together .

We do watch a lot of American series and they are just so much better at this stuff .

I find them painful to watch , as if you can see them reading their lines 🙈🙈

Furries · 21/01/2023 05:45

I watched it until the end. It was ok, but I wouldn’t be raving about it to anyone else.

The outdoor CGI scenes were shit.

And, I can’t help it, but I find it distracting when they have actors who have appeared together before in really popular shows. So, Martin and Rochenda - all that kept popping into my head was Line of Duty. The same with Iain and Owen - Game of Thrones.

Thanks to this thread, I am going to give The Last Ship a go. I’ll be back with the hump if it’s shit 🤣

AaandAway · 19/01/2023 21:42

We're on ep3. DH really enjoying it. I'm trying to work out if the script was written by a very angry A-level Drama group with input from the school's Environmental Society, or by someone closely related to the director.

Bumply · 18/01/2023 12:39

I made the mistake of watching episode one after Happy Valley and I had to stop watching as it was making me so angry with the ridiculously extreme responses to everything and particularly the poor injured guy who they were fighting over with no regard to the fact he's dying and might be able to hear them,

Jomummy1013 · 17/01/2023 09:58

Didn't like this and couldn't finish it. Was disappointed as liked the first episode
