Why so much hate on MN?

@MNHQ
Why so much hate on MN?
Posters hiding behind complaints about the government, presenting themselves as reasonable actors, to push hate about asylum seekers, people with disabilities, benefit claimants..Mostly the same names all day everyday.
I am told to report - MN just not interested.
I am told to hide the thread..
Why isn't moderation better?
I know this will always exist and exists on other platforms but MN makes no effort to even try to anything about it.
You can't really sell MN as a caring, supportive site with all this stuff offered on a daily basis in active.

I like facts just fine. You're the one who appears to be scared of them. 'Not that hard to get', well as I was saying to a pp, why don't you apply for it yourself then, seeing as you seem so jealous of people who get it? The way you're talking, it'd be a doddle.

Why would I apply for Pip? I don’t need it, don’t deserve it and even if I did I wouldn’t apply as I am financially secure. Lucky me - there you go, saved you the trouble and, yes, in the past I have claimed benefits but, thankfully managed to get on my feet.

Passed his test with flying colours so can't be that anxious

Well there we go. Apparently people can't possibly suffer from one of the multitude of Anxiety disorders if they can pass a driving test.

Regardless, there’s no reason he should be getting the amount of money he does. When his mother, without an ounce of awareness, says “he gets so much money he doesn’t know what to do with it” it’s wrong. The money is to help people and when others who are truly deserving don’t get it, there is something wrong with the system.

I was addressing your airy assertions that anyone can get it, as I think you know full well. And if you've been on benefits yourself, I'd have thought you'd have a better understanding of the factors that can place a person in need.

I am addressing the highlighted.

Surely, the answer to your post is to ignore the poster, hide the thread, scroll on by, or start your own thread?

Er, no. Where would society end up if people just stuck their heads in the sand whenever they saw bigotry and injustice being tolerated/perpetuated?

You might want to do a bit of reading about the history of Germany in the 1930s and how Hitler came to power, to give just one example.

Well, your first paragraph is a false premise, so there is no need to address your patronising second paragraph.

Stop trying to shut down people who have a different view from yours.

Who are the truly deserving?

BIossomtoes · Yesterday 15:32

We’re back to Victorian values now with deserving and undeserving poor. God help us.

I hardly think so. The benefits system is shocking in this country. People who need it struggling and others who play the system coining it in.

Yes, it’s the same.

Because the Victorians were known for their UC, CB and PIP.

Was this thread not meant to be about hate on MN? It's turned into a thread about hating benefits claimants.

I'm doing nothing of the sort. I'm saying if you won't bother to educate yourself, don't expect to be taken seriously.

Interesting that you assume I'm trying to shut you down, though, when at no point have I said 'stop talking' or anything even remotely approaching that. Do you normally confuse being disagreed with with being shut down? 🤔

It's the same in terms of the judgement cast on anyone who finds themselves struggling. The return of the 'deserving vs undeserving poor' rhetoric. And, judging by some threads on here of late, support for a return to the days of the workhouse. A societal shift back to Victorian values is definitely happening, but unfortunately it's the worst so-called values people want to re-appropriate.

I did read. And I understood.

I understood that you initially wrote a post about someone hiding savings before a review meeting to be able to continue to claim disability benefits. I then saw other posters pull you up on that by pointing out that disability benefits aren't means tested so he would have no need to hide savings. I subsequently saw you add a post about other benefits which are not means tested.

As I said...Hmm.

BIossomtoes · Yesterday 16:17

myjamisbetterthanyours · Yesterday 15:53

Yes, it’s the same.

Because the Victorians were known for their UC, CB and PIP.

The Victorians were known for their utter lack of compassion and othering of people at the bottom of the wealth pile. So yes, it’s becoming exactly the same.

An absurd comment. Playing in the rise of national socialism because posters have the temerity to question whether all benefit claimants are equally deserving of state support. It doesn’t automatically make people ignorant, or bigoted, or ‘far right’. Even this socialist government accepts that PIP is not fit for purpose.

So, if you expect to be taken seriously, you might want to think before posting.

And the vast majority playing by the rules, claiming honestly and recieving the correct level of support for their needs.

Setting aside the rudeness of that reply, you are correct that the interim Timms review has said PIP is not fit for purpose. But not because people are receiving benefits they shouldn't:

"Our work as a steering group to date has identified deep-rooted problems in both the design and delivery of PIP. Too many people describe the process as “dehumanising”, and this must be addressed. Processes can feel overly complex, repetitive and difficult to navigate, particularly for people whose needs fluctuate or are less visible. Delays or barriers in accessing support can have significant consequences for people’s ability to manage daily life, remain independent, and stay connected to work, family, and community. For some people, the current design and delivery of PIP itself can create barriers to participation, including in work, physical activity and community life. The scale and consistency of these findings suggest the challenges identified are systemic, rather than individual or case-specific.

We have reflected on the role and purpose of PIP - we agree a clearer emphasis on supporting independent living and participation in society, for example through volunteering, work, and cultural and social activities, would strengthen the aim of PIP. We also recognise that PIP alone will not always be sufficient, and that support and services can play an important role in addressing barriers"

Great post. It was a tough process to go through for us. More so for my DB, who had to appeal twice. If he hadn’t had support from my DM, he wouldn’t have got PIP.

He has invisible disabilities and hasn’t been able to work in over 30 years!
