Moderation Sex Board

onirgellep · 13/04/2023 23:06

Back in February Justine* committed to an urgent review of moderation of the Sex Board subsequent to the considerable concerns mainly arising from the longstanding Sex Chat thread

Unsurprisingly, issues continue

Would it be possible to have an update on the progress of the review?

And hear when do you anticipate it being completed and the new moderation put into action?

Thank you

I'm afraid I'm unable to link Justine's post on the thread References to Underage Sex on the Sex Board* page 13

I challenge comments on lots of threads @HornyBee

@mnhq can you please confirm whether we should or should not be saying that comments are unacceptable? That seems designed to allow perverts and miscreants of all kinds to run riot on here.

Thank you.

I hope to god that @JoMumsnet didn't meant that we shouldn't challenge vile sleazy disgusting comments made by anyone on this thread directly on the thread when she said the discussion should be kept to policy

Can someone from @mnhq please confirm. As that seems a dangerous road to go down, especially in the sex topic.

You press the report button. You don't need to challenge anyone else's comments on here.

I believe that we are on a slippery slope to getting this thread deleted.
There are posters on here who are trying to be provocative.
May I suggest that nobody rises to it. Too many of these threads have been deleted. Let's try to keep this one.

we'd be grateful if this thread could remain about policy, rather than personal comments about individual posters.

This, over and over again

horridjobescapee · 15/04/2023 17:44

And that's not about policy because it's about a comment made by a poster on this thread. And I'm challenging it in the same way as I would challenge any inappropriate comment on any thread.

Let's be clear. What he said was

Perhaps you'd like to suggest a suitable alternative site for people like that to go to then?

Why is that anyone here's job. To suggest a suitable alternative.

And then what he said was

For the avoidance of doubt, I have no interest in using other sites for the purposes of talking about sex and neither have I ever used one.

But he used mumsnet! Exactly for that purpose.

Grim.

Mermaidparades · 15/04/2023 17:42

@TheBayTreeMurder so irony is ok on ‘your’side, but not on mine? Hmmm?! I saw your comment and felt compelled to support a friend, I’d do the same if it had been a woman.

@TheShellBeach there isn’t going to be a hook up thread again, that’s in the past. Please don’t give it any more of your headspace. It wasn’t appropriate, it was ended by Mumsnet.

TheShellBeach · 15/04/2023 17:37

I cannot understand why anyone wants a hook-up chat thread on here in the first place.

Me either

And I can't understand why a man would ask for recommendations for sleazy chat sites on mumsnet. It's abhorrent.

horridjobescapee · 15/04/2023 17:38

Mermaidparades · 15/04/2023 17:34

@horridjobescapee @everywhichway has already clarified that he does not require those websites, it was merely a rhetorical question.

That's not quite what he said.

Theyresexpeoplemn · 15/04/2023 17:15

I'm concerned about the under age aspect now. Should there be some ID requirement to view or post?

I'm very concerned by the underage aspect and the fact that mumsnet themselves could be liable for hosting illegal content and that content being available to children.

I hope MNHQ are looking into that as a matter of urgency.

horridjobescapee · 15/04/2023 17:31

@everywhichway it's not womens' job to provide you with a list of sites to fulfil your sex chat needs. Can't you use google?

JoMumsnet · 15/04/2023 15:43

Hi @onirgellep - we're really sorry for the delay in responding. We'll do our best to answer the issues you've raised in due course but we're a bit thin on the ground just now.

As TheShellBeach pointed out at the start of the thread, we did respond to many of the queries that were raised on this thread - https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/site_stuff/4753533-the-sex-topic-an-update-on-moderation - if you use the Filter/See All option on the OP posts on that thread, you'll see that YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet posted 17 times, most recently on 14th March.

We appreciate your suggestions for additional warnings to be placed at the top of the Sex topic. The HQ message currently says:

'Only those who have been a registered user of Mumsnet for at least 7 days can post in this topic. Mumsnet is a site for grown-ups - you can choose what you want to share with other users but please don’t send unwanted PMs or be otherwise disrespectful.'

but we're open to reviewing this text if necessary.

As ever, please report any posts, threads or posters that concern you - we're always happy to check things out behind the scenes and will take action if we think someone's not here in good faith.

Thanks again for sharing your concerns. We'll be back to respond in more detail after the weekend but in the meantime we'd be grateful if this thread could remain about policy, rather than personal comments about individual posters.

Thanks for your reply @JoMumsnet

Just briefly

I did see @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet thread and considered asking to have this thread deleted, as above

A small point about the warning For me at least it's written in very small writing - when I went to check it yesterday, before making that post, I had to go and find my glasses in order to read it!

It looks like a bit of a 'shy' warning that doesn't want to stand out to much
Anyway

Look forward to hearing your further thoughts after the weekend - hope things improve staffing wise

More inappropriate behaviour. Why do you think asking people to find sex websites for you is ok?

HeartbreakHouse · 15/04/2023 15:49

Thanks for acknowledging the ongoing discussion @JoMumsnet. Looking forward to a more detailed response after the weekend.

StraightOuttaContext · 15/04/2023 15:31

@TheBayTreeMurder glad it's not just me who didn't quite believe what I'd just read!

So odd right? Must be part of the thrill for him, getting posters on a parenting site to suggest sex sites. It says a lot about who they are, no normal, healthy boundaries whatsoever, seemingly he thinks this is a normal thing to do. The mind boggles.
