What is this ‘You might also like’ clutter?

Sound like the shit kind of manager that says "I'd you don't like, it get another job"

I had to pop out to deal with something and there are loads more posts on this thread.

If it isn’t a site that you want to or can use, alternative sites are available!

Of course there are other sites for people to use and it's clear from the amount of posts since the last major update that many have chosen to use these other sites.

Nevertheless people don't actually want the site to close entirely and therefore offer criticism and alterative ideas yet when posters helpfully take time to give feedback which is constantly ignored it stands to reason people will get frustrated.

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet @LilyMumsnet whatever "tweaks" you have put in place are not working. On this new thread started today the 5 "you might like this threads are:
1 from February 2022, 3 from August 2022 and 1 from a mere 3 weeks ago (where any advice given now is long past useless anyway). The whole thing is junk and it just going to lead to people wasting their time trying to help with problems that were resolved months ago!

You don't understand why people talk like I did? It's simple, it's out of pure frustration that every bloody 'tweak' makes the site less user friendly.

We are the reason MN exists. We are their product and surely it's common bloody sense to listen to the people who make the site when they almost unanimously agree these so called upgrades are anything but. However time and time again MN show they don't actually listen and instead plow on regardless.

It's a hard 'no' from me as well. I really can't understand why this unasked for and unwanted feature has been introduced. Especially now that the search function is working well.

I agree it's awful. I resurrected a 2-month old thread (so only very mildly zombie) earlier today by accident because of this. I hadn't noticed the feature when I am browsing on my phone but today I am on my laptop and it's a lot more prominent.

if it is such a great feature, then why not have it on Site Stuff?

if the reason is to assist users with searching, as stated above, then surely it would be beneficial on Site Stuff, which is where users post about issues?

nobody has asked MN to “tweak” this.

they’ve asked for it to be made optional or to be ditched.

the users do not like this function or it’s prominence.

You do realise that MN aren’t providing the service out of the goodness of their hearts - it’s a business and we are the product. It’s not unreasonable to think they could spend a bit of time listening to what people actually want, or to take proper action when users point out how unsuitable a feature is for this site. Given that if we weren’t here they wouldn’t really have a business, as others have pointed out

Or if that’s not an option PLEASE can it be moved to underneath the posting box rather than above.

When I am using MN on my phone (I don’t use the app just the site) this new feature means I have to scroll down a long way to be able to post a reply. And half the time I cba, especially if phone is being a bit slow.

If others are the same, it’s losing you posts.

I think this new feature is a bit crap but I have no idea where people get off talking like this.

MN isn’t a small child to apologise to you, it’s an established business and forum that mostly takes on board the suggestions of users and is free to use.

As for “the site is unusable!!!”, no it isnt, it’s a bit inconvenient to scroll an extra click but doesn’t make it unusable

So this is why there are all the old threads? Boring and pointless and doesn't add anything useful at all.

I almost gave up on MN when they did the 'upgrade' and, despite the numerous tweaks, I'm still finding it much less enjoyable and can feel myself losing interest. Trending had already become boring and repetitive and 'you might also like' has just made that worse, as well as increasing the resurrection of the zombie threads we all hate. I genuinely don't understand what you're trying to do MNHQ, none of the changes since the upgrade are any kind of improvement, quite the reverse

MN are always saying that they can't do anything about zombie threads (when they absolutely can) and now they are actively encouraging them.

Appalling.

If I want to read old threads I look for them. They don't need bumping by people who didn't see them the first time and think they are new (and ignore the date they were first posted).

If you insist on cluttering up the site with this useless feature, please could you put a warning on the old threads that they are Zombies BEFORE people read them to the end and then reply because not everyone will see the date, being conditioned to assume that active means recent.

Don't "tweak" it.....get rid of it.

Adding another one to the voices saying please get rid. As a feature it's not providing any functionality that you can't get elsewhere on the site. Its adding clutter, both in the UI and by reanimating zombie threads, and it's really tone deaf. No, I wouldn't "like" to see more threads about abusive ex's.

It's bad site design and a frequent reminder that part of your business model is monetising people's trauma.

It wouldnt surprise me actually a 'if you want to comment on this thread please watch this ad/movie' thats how ridiculous its getting round here

"free movies" few minutes, ffs. Though maybe being cluttered up with free movies will be next!

Also it's ridiculous that it's there between the last post and the reply box. Yesterday I thought I'd been logged out as there was nowhere for my reply. Only after a free movies did I realise that I had to scroll past the clutter to find the reply box.
