Is there just less content being posted now?

Agree the nesting quotes thing is awful, I can’t keep track of who said what. Threads don’t ‘take off’ like they used to, I used to love to settle down to a long thread but they don’t seem to happen much now. The constant deleting of threads is even more annoying now we don’t even get a deletion message.

How do you hide a whole topic please?

The best threads lately IMO were the Jubilee watch along ones.So everyone watching the concert and then the parade the next day, commenting as it went along, they were great. Nobody had an agenda, just chatting and drinking and no controversy.
Reminded me of the 2012 Olympic opening/closing ceremony ones that were the same. Just fun.

Agree to this! A much higher number of fast moving threads are trolls so even if you went into the trouble of writing a reply, it would be deleted anyway. Out of the few real threads, most OPs never come back to update and it degenerates into a 2-3 users bickering about some tangential issue.

I miss those "everyday oddity" threads that seem to have disappeared entirely. You know the ones where someone found a weird symbol on their door, or heard a strange noise or have a houseguest who refuses to leave. Those were all over MN 3 years ago and lightheartedly entertaining with the excitement of getting real-time updates.

The quote thing doesn't work on the app, just to add to the confusion!

Been a member for years but I spend way less time on here and rarely post in comparison. I spend more time on Reddit now tbh.

The technical issues are excruciating. As is the general format / layout of the conversations where it's impossible to keep track of things because there are no clear threads.

It also feels with a lot of subjects a bit like... what's the point? Relationships = LTB. Step-parents = YABU. Pets = adopt. Weightloss = low carb vs anti low carb. Style & Beauty = whatever the new Boden or Hush is, probably fucking COS or even worse the "wear what makes you happy who cares?"

It's like god forbid you got your pet off gumtree or you smoke or you didn't get vaccinated or you think a relationship might be worth saving. There is 80% "the MN answer" and 20% of people who think differently and eventually give up.

But mostly the fact it's like something from 2005 and whatever technical updates they're doing only seem to make it worse.

There's a part of me that suspects most of the interesting threads are being started by employees...

I'm pretty sure the quoting thing was continually asked for as an essential requirement, because 'all the other sites have it'. I think it's only a matter of time before the Like button arrives, and it can be just like the Daily Mail.

I'm relieved I'm not the only one who thinks that!

Also, sadly, it seems that there are a certain faction of people on Mumsnet nowadays (are they men?) who hang about on threads and pick fights and relish a ding dong fight back and forth. It's as if their sole purpose is to goad someone in to submission. Really unpleasant and nasty. There were genuine blow ups and disagreements in the past but not so calculated and malevolent as now.

The quoting thing really pisses me off, you end up with pages of threads when people quote a post and then several replies to it. It's too clumbersome to read, and the moment I see several of them, I back out the thread.

Some of the updates are good, but that ain't one of em!

The troll situation is so bad that I just think 'you again' at 90% of new threads.

I tend to avoid ongoing scraps on here - no value in it - will drop out once things look like they might reach boiling point, but sometimes i just cannot let the more unfair and damaging rhetoric go unchallenged. I like your username btw, made me . Reminds me of an old friend of mine who seemed to have that as her motto in life and was huge fun.

I lie the new layout but it seems to take a long time for threads to load. 10pm seems to be the worst time for it.

And I've probably been here too long because when I read thread titles I find myself categorising them according to which particular brand of troll has almost certainly started them. And there now seem to be more people testing out plots for their first (and probably last) novel - usually written in 'Take A Break" inspired language.

And people with genuine issues are often put off by the thought of having their thread picked up by newspapers.

Also, as a pp said, I'd like to hide topics like Conception and Birth that I'm not interested in, and that clog up my feed, but I can't see you can actually do it on the Android app, which is all I use. I wish the algorithms were more like, say, Instagram, where the particular topics you read/look at, are the ones that show up more. I never read anything on Conception, Birth, Babies, Baby names, and yet my bloody Active is always full of those threads.

I used to look at trending to see if there was anything interesting to read and there nearly always was and it changed all the time. Now it's the same threads for hours or even days on end. At least it seems like it. And even the old emoticons have gone.

I think a lot of the nastier posts are trying to emulate the quick wit of bygone days but just can’t.

@HydraWater I think to hide whole topics you may have to go into your own Settings and customise.

I agree re Active Threads not refreshing.

I think it's (yet another) glitch since the new platform. I've noticed that Active will stay the same for ages, then suddenly update but with threads posted 24 h or even days before, that haven't been in Active before.

Help me please, how do I hide topics like AIBU etc.? I had a quick look but I don't see a feature to do this. But I am not the best at these things either. Thank you!

Problems with site functioning, can't go back to a thread without having to go through a rigmarole of closing, refreshing, opening, or closing the site down and starting again by which time I have lost interest.

So many people not reading the original post properly and posting useless and unhelpful replies, seems worse than ever before.

Nasty people, trolls, people that abandon threads, people that drag up zombie threads and still no warning on the OP that it is a zombie.

Trending, threads not changing colour when you have opened them so you end up opening them again as, if you are like me, you forget which ones you opened, and that pisses me off a lot for some reason.

Security. Never seems to be sorted really.
