We're thrilled to announce that Mumsnet is going to be leading the NHS trial to outsource maternity wards - see the full announcement here. Over the next few weeks we'll be popping up regularly for feedback on how you'd like maternity wards to operate and to hone our plans. The aim is simple - to make the UK maternity wards the envy of the world. Move over Bounty, it's time for #MNHS!

As a dad of two and a granddad of four, I think this whole thread is hilarious!

…Erm… I have to admit I did get to about the third or fourth post before I twigged the date.

Well done! Grin

I'm a day late to this ... Grin Brilliant work, mnhq!

Anybody know whether I can come in anyway, without having a baby? I'd like to use the rapid-response section facility for a nip & tuck, and am guaranteed to raise post-partum spirits at the gin bar

ScrambledSmegs · 01/04/2014 22:36

Juggling, have a look at the first post on this thread. It's pretty much my favourite ever thread on MN.

Angela Hernandez is the Spartacus of Mumsnet Grin

BoffinMum · 01/04/2014 22:10

I may be 46 but I would be TTC if all that was on offer Grin

Anniegetyourgun · 01/04/2014 21:23

Now don't go pretending it was all a joke; you've raised expectations, you have to do this. You know you want to. And we want you to.

(Can't believe anyone had to actually read further than the subject line to realise it was not, you know, entirely serious...)

JugglingFromHereToThere · 01/04/2014 21:06

Who is Angela Hernandez and why did she give the game away?
Have to say I was suspicious from the start ... hey I get to legitimately use my favourite emoticon for once ... Hmm (sceptical)

duchesse · 01/04/2014 20:56

The noon rule on April 1st has to have been invented by teachers? We never had at school in France- merrily continued sticking fishes on each others' backs till going home time. Also stink bombs. They were lovely. NOt.

I feel sorry for the woman who dares to say "AIBU to....." ;)

DoctorTwo · 01/04/2014 19:40

I opened the link, started reading and thought "ooh, how interesting" then got down to Angela Hernandez and thought "hang on a cotton pickin' minute!" Good try though. :o

TiggyKBE · 01/04/2014 18:31

Will the wards shut several times a day for no real reason like the site does?

andsmile · 01/04/2014 17:52

Oh and I'd want a 'horte-cature' birthing top like that women had on OBEM

andsmile · 01/04/2014 17:51

But will there be a pedicure bar, brazillian treatments and bum bleaching on entry?

tb · 01/04/2014 15:06

Scrap the Lotus spread and replace with confiture de lait/dulche de leche - much better.

irismayfield · 01/04/2014 14:53

Are we sure this isn't real?? I work in procurement in the NHS and the below is scarily accurate NHS speak......

"Mumsnet was chosen to pilot the scheme after an extensive 5-step tender process. "The Mumsnet bid stood out because of their innovative proposal to marry a patient-led birth experience with sustainable income generation via the provision of paid-for service upgrades and exploitation of other commercial opportunities".

The reason this was quite a good April fools thing is that on first glance something ridiculous like outsourcing maternity services to a parenting website is exactly the kind of dreadful policy we've come to expect from the coalition government.

The thing that gives it away is that some of it actually sounds good Grin

Beastofburden · 01/04/2014 14:36

yes, sand, it is. Though not past 12 though, so we ought to stoppit now

Sandarita · 01/04/2014 14:18

Today is Fools day?

BrainSurgeon · 01/04/2014 14:12

Aaaah free yoni massages, of course! How could I forget - such an essential part of pre-natal care Grin

smearedinfood · 01/04/2014 13:48

Can you imagine the queue of pale looking men at the 'Gin Bar' post birth, reiterating Robbie Williams concerns about their favourite pub burning down.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 01/04/2014 13:47

Thank you for leaving this up past midday, otherwise I would have missed it! Grin Well done Flowers

i really, really wish it was real, can you imagine

Bridgesforskating · 01/04/2014 13:18
