Should we tolerate this in the UK?

I am aware that other cultures have different values and traditions, but should we really be tolerating this sort of behaviour in the UK?

https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-16199187/Exposed-British-imams-telling-men-beat-wives-say-NO-sex-police-ministers-failing-crack-them.html

Yet it seems that certain political parties are willing to turn a blind eye to this sort of thing so that they can secure votes from a certain section of the electorate who often vote as a family unit.

I really thought we had moved on from this sort of thing in the West, but disappointingly it seems I am sadly mistaken.

British imams telling men to beat their wives if they say NO to sex

Sitting before his many followers, a preacher dressed in white urges the men to hit their wives if they refuse to be 'called to bed for intimacy'.

Are you prepared to understand that the Imam you referenced in your opening is exactly the same shit that Andrew Tate spouts?

Are you prepared to understand that the Tates are living abroad because we don't tolerate their shit in the UK?

It's certainly not that long ago that Christian women were told by the Church to have sex with their husbands to procreate whether they wanted to or not it was their Christian duty and to love, honour and obey their husbands.

‘Not long ago’ is not the same as ‘now’, in the same way as some crazy US preacher spouting similar ideas in the States (as mentioned by a pp) is not the same as having religious leaders doing it here, in this country.

I think it should be possible to discuss what is acceptable here and now, without the endless whataboutisms about previous times and different countries.

Fwiw, I would certainly have the same issues with a Christian church leader telling men to beat their wives, as I’m sure would pp, hence their asking if it was a common occurrence in Christian communities.

Are you prepared to understand that they are currently under extradition back to the UK?

So they could be tried for crimes they commited here. That doesn't suggest tolerance of his views....

No one on this thread has suggested tolerance regarding open views supporting violence against women and girls.

Wow, just wow.

Unbelievable and completely unacceptable.

Nobody can defend this.

That’s probably why so many other issues are raised in response, rather than directly addressing it.

Paganpentacle · 12/10/2026 13:18

Branleuse · 11/10/2026 21:27

You started the thread! Are you saying that it's specifically an issue with Muslims or brown people then? Are you not tarring them with the same brush?

It's a male violence and male entitlement issue.

Not in my family it isn't.
Islam specifically sees women as property of their husbands.
And before you start- Islam is not a race, or a skin colour.
Its a disgusting misogynistic ideology.

I would go as far as to say that it just isn't compatible with our tolerant way of life here in the West.

After every England football match, domestic violence rates go up - regardless of whether England win or lose.

I wouldn’t mind those men being deported.

It is not actively encouraged and made acceptable by their religion though

Yes, I am, but I'm not sure how you think this furthers the whataboutery you were attempting:

Justinthekitchen · Today 11:24
Are you prepared to condemn these Imams unconditionally? Or do you insist on minimising it because white British men sometimes abuse too?

And yet you attempted to use it as a deflection for why you wouldn't simply condemn these Imams unconditionally.

Yet more whataboutery. Is this all you people ever do?

Can you acknowledge that the Pakistani Muslin rape gangs are a problem that requires universal and unconditional condemnation?

I have accepted rape gangs are an issue that requires universal condemnation multiple times. I have condemned the views of this imam and said those views hold no place in modern society. You seem to be the one who refuses to accept that these gangs exist in a significant number outside of muslim/pakistani communities.

As for the ‘they will only care when it affects them’ rhetoric - I also told you of my personal experiences of it happening to ‘their own’ and my observations around that too. You don’t seem to want to hear any of it so there is little more for me to add to this thread other than to emphasise the need to stamp out ALL crimes, particularly those against women who make up the majority of victims.

‘I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet’

’women should remain quiet (in places of worship) as they are not permitted to speak but should be in submission’

women must not wear male clothing as it is ‘an abomination to God’

’women must submit to their husbands as to the lord’

that’s The Bible by the way

The Koran commands men to treat women with respect and kindness, enshrines women’s right to own property in her own name, have equal rights in inheritance, have a dowry that is strictly hers and not shared with her husband, to seek knowledge and have the right to divorce

you can take any odd passage and make a religion look awful really!

oh and Mary was 12 when she was visited by an angel and asked to carry Jesus - but her consent was explicitly required!

Mary and Joseph became refugees after Jesus was born fleeing Herod

How do you think those religions look currently? Where would you rather be, under U.K. law and a background of Christianity or somewhere else?

Oh it's unconditional condemnation now, but only towards a certain group of men?

I unconditionally condem all men, regardless for their vocal abuse towards women and girls.

You seem to be selective. Why is that? Do you not agree that all violence against women and girls should be condemned?

Are you six years old?

This is the equivalent of someone saying "I don't think kittens should be tortured" and being met with "Oh, so you think puppies should be tortured?"

See if you can find and quote any evidence whatsoever of me excusing this behaviour in any subset of men whatsoever.

Okay. I've been patient with you but it now seems like you are borderline personally attacking me now and I very much do not care for the escalation of your tone. Fair warning.

I think a distinction should be made between institutionalised/religious sexual abuse, and non-institutionalised.

This thread concerns media reports of the former.

Its male culture.

SiberFox · 12/10/2026 16:24

WitsEndFFS · 11/10/2026 22:15

There’s a huge difference between men committing domestic violence despite what’s taught in schools and churches, and men being taught by their leaders that DV is the appropriate response to a woman resisting rape.

Huge difference and it’s disingenuous to suggest otherwise.

Those saying it’s just a male culture and there are no meaningful cultural differences should consider how they would like to swap the violent Britain for Afghanistan and the like. It’s the same problems everywhere isn’t it?

To my knowledge rape statistics actually make Britain one of the most dangerous countries on earth to be a woman.

So I think people should be careful about throwing challenges like this out when the data suggests its actually safer to live in Afghanistan or Pakistan than the UK. I would move myself and my daughters to either of those countries tomorrow if I could.
