Should we tolerate this in the UK?

I am aware that other cultures have different values and traditions, but should we really be tolerating this sort of behaviour in the UK?

https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-16199187/Exposed-British-imams-telling-men-beat-wives-say-NO-sex-police-ministers-failing-crack-them.html

Yet it seems that certain political parties are willing to turn a blind eye to this sort of thing so that they can secure votes from a certain section of the electorate who often vote as a family unit.

I really thought we had moved on from this sort of thing in the West, but disappointingly it seems I am sadly mistaken.

British imams telling men to beat their wives if they say NO to sex

Sitting before his many followers, a preacher dressed in white urges the men to hit their wives if they refuse to be 'called to bed for intimacy'.

It is becoming increasingly clear on this thread that yourself @Justinthekitchen is determined to browbeat posters into accepting your views and any resistance is met with "whataboutery". Sounds abusive. If it quacks like a duck.

No, whataboutery is met with an accusation of whataboutery. Simple really.

Oh dear this is hard - I’m quite tired but go back to the post where I was quoted responding to another poster and work from there - it’s Monday and I need coffee

Yes I saw it. It was a strange response. Politicians views are public.

I’m not sure why this happens with this in particular.

zoeslim · 12/10/2026 11:22

Everyone should read the quran
it cheerfully say a wife must obey a husband
A husband is allowed to hit his wife of she does not obey him
anyone who leaves islam should be killed by muslims
A wife has to ask permission to leave the house or invite friends in
Cannot have sex if not married
A wife has to submit sexually anytime a husband is horny

If anyone started a cult like that the BBC and Guardian and Labour party would be apoplectic
Public sector workers would protest
But they allow this to be taught in our country and defend this shit
Two faced hypocritical scum

Are you prepared to condemn these Imams unconditionally? Or do you insist on minimising it because white British men sometimes abuse too?

These Imams and their prehistoric teachings really should not be given permission to live in the UK.

I don't think its our place to be criticising the way that other communities practice their culture, there is no right or wrong way to live our lives and who is to say that we have all the answers? Many of these advanced cultures have long existed since we were still eating twigs and berries in straw huts, so its a bit presumptuous for us to throw our weight around and tell other people what they are doing wrong. Live and let live eh?

It is absolutely right to be condemning the sub-human things these Imams are promoting. And if you think it is acceptable then you are part of the problem. But nice try at trolling the thread ;)

Are you prepared to understand that the Imam you referenced in your opening is exactly the same shit that Andrew Tate spouts?

No, Andrew Tate is a different and separate problem. Unfortunately a home-grown problem rather than one we have imported. Go start your own thread on him if you like.

You cannot convince the Whatabouters @Justinthekitchen there are lost there is no hope for them. Try not to lose your temper as then you will lose your position . They cannot and will not condemn it because they do not believe it is true they believe you are a horrible racist and bigot . there will be many in the background trying to get the thread taken down as a previous one I was on . Until it visits their door.

I live in walking distance for the kebab shop where it happened (waiting for the of course you do replies) and the same young girls were not believed by the same type of people who allowed it. Many on here will be working within similar services and many have the same abhorrent opinions as the many professionals who also looked the other way. Noting on this thread has made me believe that anything has changed and that it is not happing right now.

Your post @DebbieSavage makes me sick to my stomach and leave me very fearful of the future. maybe a city break to Kabul may enlighten you.

Contrary to your veiled dig there I am actually quite the globetrotter. I have been to dozens of holiday resorts in countries all around the world and the people there were all extremely nice and welcoming without fail. Certainly a contrast to stuffy old England where everybody is seemingly so miserable all the time.

Maybe if YOU got out and saw the world YOU might just see how amazing people actually are and stop spouting hate towards other cultures.

Andrew Tate is a "home grown problem"? Seriously, do you not accept within an open thread, that you started, would be met with criticism?

It's clear that you seem to be intransigent when it comes to critical analysis. And I personally class that approach as abusive.

Sadly I agree, they will only wake up when it impacts them or their family directly. Much like the middle class women of Piddington have now woken up to reality. The same women who no-doubt would have previously called the people from poor working class areas that have been changed beyond recognition by immigration, racists and far-right for voicing their concerns.

I think I need to take a step away from this thread for a while, as people attempting to defend the indefensible are now starting to get to me. See you tomorrow perhaps.

What an awful thing to say. Please do not tar all men with the same brush. My DH and all the men I have known over the years would never think that such a thing is appropriate or acceptable.

To your knowledge.

WhereAreTheTrueGreens · 12/10/2026 12:05

It's appalling and the excuse of 'different culture' is not acceptable.

Physical abuse is unlawful here. Marital rape is also unlawful but will these poor women actually report it.

lifeturnsonadime · 12/10/2026 12:08

Branleuse · 11/10/2026 21:27

You started the thread! Are you saying that it's specifically an issue with Muslims or brown people then? Are you not tarring them with the same brush?

It's a male violence and male entitlement issue.

It clearly is a religious issue (as well as a male issue)

Unless you can link to church leaders of other faiths making similar statements.

Coffeeeecups · 12/10/2026 12:20

I thought I saw unhinged shite on MN, but this thread takes a crown.
So... Really wish we could see reaction if someone from CoE said the same thing ot publicly agreed with this...

No hate spouted here only hate for bad men with no regards for what ever sky fairy they follow!!

I have also travelled, interesting you thin I might not have done or maybe not as you will dismiss me as a working class uneducated, uncultured bigot I am sure.
Glad you enjoyed your gap year on daddies’ money (see what I did there) TCPTG

Wow, just wow.

Unbelievable and completely unacceptable.

Nobody can defend this.

Coffeeeecups · 12/10/2026 12:23

Pretty sure imams saying this publicly would get pulled on it even in many muslim countries

itsnotagameshow · 12/10/2026 10:19

How dreadful. Let's stop educating women, shall we?

Fancy having people with empathy and the ability to see another point of view in public services.

I am sickeningly fascinated by people who seem to think that anyone who has an ounce of compassion or understanding for other people - especially the migrant scapegoat - is a) brainwashed and will allow them to get away with anything and b) unable to simultaneously condemn them for unpleasant and criminal actions. It is possible to hold both thoughts at once, you know.

Believing the above is one step away from saying refugees get new iphones handed out at the beach and a stretch limo to their 5 star hotels when they land on the beach. Ditto re the two tier policing trope. The people driving a wedge between us all over the world are manipulating fear and anger for their own ends.

Where on earth did pp suggest we stop educating women? Talk about strawmanning.

Pathological empathy (or 'suicidal empathy', as coined by Gad Saad) isn’t simply having compassion.
It is an extreme form of empathy that is ultimately detrimental to one’s own interests (be it society, culture or safety).

It causes people to overlook serious harms and crimes because they are so focused on protecting a specific group. That is exactly how institutional failures like Rotherham happen, because the fear of causing offence overrides the duty to protect vulnerable children.

The Piddington crew are the unfortunate example of refugee’s welcome over there not here in our village!!

Take care you are not alone in your despair.

The political parties speaking out against this openly welcome domestic abusers who do exactly the same. I'm not sure the cultural differences you think exist are particularly varied.

Citation needed.
