Suella Braverman a disgrace to humanity

Did anyone watch her on bbc question time? She was spouting so much hatred. She is trying to rip apart this country. Divide and conquer. Honestly it’s really upsetting. I hate that our young people are watching this play out.

OP posts:
Dollymylove · 08/10/2026 08:20

I was confused at reading the OP. I thought Suella must have been on the pro Pally march celebrating the rape and murder of innocent babies
My bad....

HandPulledNoodles · 08/10/2026 08:21

The concern is where this leads. Restore UK are already talking about “remigration”. Once you define who counts as ethnically English, it’s a short step to saying everyone else doesn’t belong and should be kicked out.
Suella provides convenient cover for that divisive politics. Having a brown woman front it doesn’t make it any less ugly.

Every country has a right wing party spouting this kind of stuff. Doesn’t mean we need to deny bare facts.

If you make everything about race and skin colour then its not really a shock when people make things about race and skin colour.

And yes I agree with @AgeingMillennial that there are always far right nutters but it shouldn't mean we deny facts.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ukpolitics/comments/1x04362/bbc_pays_white_staff_less_in_almost_every_pay_band/

Have you seen the BBC ethnicity pay reporting?

They are paying white people less in almost every pay band. Do you hate that young white people know they will be paid less by the BBC?

Is that "spouting hatred"?

The long march through the institutions is complete. The left totally dominate academia, publishing, the arts, the BBC, even the police. We are being taught to hate ourselves, slowly but surely, and when you hate yourself you don't complain.

If a white English person said to a leftist "I'm proud to be English. I'm proud to be from the culture that produced Newton and Darwin. I'm proud of our literary heritage, from Chaucer through Shakespeare and on to Blake and Jane Austen and Dickens, etc" they'd go purple with hatred and rage and scream "nationality is all nonsense and race is a social construct and England's history is disgusting and shameful" and so on (and on).

But if that same leftist met a Native American who started talking about their pride in their history and culture, he would grovel at their feet.

She’s not making the distinction just for the satisfaction of being factually correct. She’s making a political point. I’m questioning what that point is and what she wants to do with it. “But it’s true” doesn’t answer that.

Remember Jo Cox, stabbed to death by someone on the far right?

that was tragic but Ann Widdecombe , David Amess . Tbh I wasnt really thinking about murders but general rhetoric. The left seem far quicker to resort to hateful comments and personal attack .

Of course "because its true" answers that. Hiding the truth that there is such a thing as an ethnic English person is the left's political point that has led to the rise of the far right. We should acknowledge there are lots if ethnicities here including English.

Because she is overstepping and it’s about personal choice. As she is a politician she should keep her personal choice and feelings to herself!
If someone has British nationality that is all that matters. They can feel English or Scottish or Welsh or NI (or more than one of those) and if their grandparent was born in eg Jamaica, they can if they want to also feel ties there. It’s their choice, not for someone in power to tell them. Also with ethnicity questionnaires you can insert „prefer not to say“. That is people‘s choice.
Same with dual nationals, English law doesn’t recognise them to be lesser than those who only have the British passport.
The world is increasingly global and mixed. And dinosaurs from the last century obsessing about national identity and nation states and ethnicity and how many generations of it, it’s regressive. She needs to look forward as a politician not backward. It’s completely irrelevant if I can trace my roots back one generation or to Norman times. It’s all just time periods. And it’s about my personal identity it has nothing to do with the State!

I really don't think politicians should keep their feelings to themselves. We need to know what they think and feel so that we know who to vote for.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. There is no English ethnicity, we are a nation of immigrants and our language is German. We aren't even indigenous to these bloomin Islands for goodness sake!

That’s a weird take. So the ethnics are the other lot and we are just, what, normal? The default? Above that kind of thing?

Obviously ethnicities shift and form and fray. But the English have ~1000 years of a fairly stable genetic stock, and the Germanic language influence was ~1500 yrs ago, and there is a cultural or national identity tied to Englishness. That’s generally enough to recognise an ethnicity in any other group.

Why the English exceptionalism?

Meadowfinch · 08/10/2026 07:17

I consider myself ethnically English. I come from a rural English village and am related to those in most of the graves going back a thousand years. That's a fact evidenced by the parish records. I can't change that, nor do I want to.

Children who are adopted can feel cut off from their heritage, and describe not knowing who they are. The authorities go to great lengths to place children with families of similar heritage, to prevent that disconnect. Adopted children can trace their birth families for exactly this reason.

People need to know their own heritage. That doesn't change what is on their passports or what they are entitled to. I can't bear SB but I don't see an issue with acknowledging ethnicity.

Edited

Parish burial records don't go back a thousand years as they didn't exist before the 1500s. You can be related to most of the graveyard but be equally related to people from far away. Your ancestors from a thousand years ago will number hundreds of thousands of people (millions mathematically but that's not possible) and unless you have documented evidence of them all or a DNA test, you have no idea where they all lived.

I have documented evidence of most of my ancestors going back to the 1600s and they're all English/Scottish but from the surnames, some of them were probably from Normandy. I've done a DNA test, which says 100% of my DNA is from Northern Europe. I'd say I was ethnically British, which is Celtic, French, German, Scandinavian...

I think we might be able to say that we're ethnically British but what is English ethnicity specifically?

Shedmistress · 08/10/2026 08:44

A disgrace to humanity.

There's that whole 'be kind' we often see from the self appointed 'RSOH' people.

The whole reason that this is an issue now is what exactly?

Myli1 · 08/10/2026 08:47

Yes I wholeheartedly agree. Absolutely vile and repulsive woman, and totally inept and incompetent as a politician.

Dappy777 · 08/10/2026 08:47

Frazzled89 · 08/10/2026 07:16

Our language is Germanic, not German. Swedish and Dutch are Germanic languags, do you call those languages German too? English people have a large portion of indigenous Briton ancestry, followed by ancestry from the various Anglo-Saxon tribes. So yes we are a mixture, like most people around the world. It is this mixture that makes us English. I think it's disgenuous to say there isn't an English Ethnicity when you could day thay about every Ethnicity. The Scottish too for example are very mixed in their ancestry.

It's true there's no such thing as a pure English race. BUT, that doesn't mean we've always been mixed race and multicultural. That's just a lie.

Until very recently, the vast majority of English people were northern European. Racially and culturally we were a Germanic-Celtic mix. (Even the Normans were the descendants of Scandinavian Vikings.) And that was true from around 500AD to the 20th-century.

The left are now using mass immigration to destroy people's old identity and impose a new one on them (whether they want it or not). A government adviser to Blair, called Andrew Neather, said that the plan was to use immigration to "rub the right's nose in diversity and render their arguments out of date." No one asked for it and no one voted for it.

It’s fairly unusual to see British as a plausible ethnicity but not English. What is it that makes the difference?

OrangeFlower14 · 08/10/2026 08:57

I really worry about the kind of language using this title

She’s a human being with an opinion. It’s different opinion to mine that’s no problem.

It’s not like she’s committed murder then you might call her a disgrace or whatever

I thought about reporting it. I don’t know. I understand strong language but something about this makes me uncomfortable.

What is ethnically Scottish as opposed to ethnically English? What would your definition be?

People with a known heritage in the British Isles will generally have a mixture of ancestors from the Celtic Britons, Anglo Saxons, Vikings and Normans.

Mixedmix · 08/10/2026 08:59

AgeingMillennial · 08/10/2026 08:14

Personally I think you’re English if you’re born and raised here and skin colour doesn’t come into that.

Ethnically yes of course there is such a thing as English. But that in itself doesn’t make you English if you weren’t born and raised here. I have significant Irish heritage but that doesn’t actually make me Irish.

But to say there’s no such thing as ethnically English is a nonsense, I agree.

If you’re born in England and have a passport (or at least eligible for one) then you’re a British citizen. British nationality/citizen and ethnically English/Scottish/Welsh are completely different. My mum was born in England but she isn’t English! Her parents are Asian so she could never be English. She’s a British citizen.

The left are much worse. The Guardian for example is full of attacks on the character of the person expressing an opinion rather than the opinion itself. You can see it on plenty of threads on MN too where issues are being debated.

The title of this thread is a good example.

Kingfisherfree10 · 08/10/2026 09:03

To deny people their identity is a terrible thing to do. The English know who they are. My ancestors date back to before 1066. What I find quite confusing is why anyone would want to deny their own heritage and say they are something that they are not - are they ashamed of who they are? Why would you want to claim to be English when you have Indian ancestry? It is embarrassing tbh.
