I keep getting reminded of Pizzagate – the US conspiracy theory later turbocharged by QAnon which claimed there were child-sexual-abuse rings among the elite, centred around the Democratic Party.
When Epstein was finally convicted, people started saying, "Look, Pizzagate conspiracy theorists were right all along: there was an elite child-sexual-abuse ring."
What they fail to add is that the elite involved was that around Trump, the president fielded twice by the Republican Party and supported by QAnon. (Edited to add: I know all sorts of people had connections to Epstein, but Trump's were prolific and long-lasting, and he is believed to have appeared very heavily in the Epstein files. Trump's general poltical guru Steve Bannon was making a film with Epstein about Epstein, and from the clips I've seen Epstein's sexual behaviour and his value as political fixer were not secret.)
So I've long thought the point of Pizzagate was to get out of ahead of the story and tie it in people's minds to the Democrats: win-win for the Republicans, who get to deflect from their sex-offender president AND smear the other guys.
The story being pushed on me about foreign influence taking over my country feels very similar.
Lots of noisy shouting about not particularly powerful groups of foreigners or simply people who are not white British-born Christians. Barely a whisper about the extremely powerful and well-funded foreigners backed by billionaires and nation-states who have stated that they intend to roll-out their cultural influence in my country and who are trying to support their pet political party into government.
