Interesting in the film they are saying others have given the money through their children - I thought the favourite was their mother?

Cowardly Lib Dems - why not ask the police to investigate Farage as well?

Following tonight’s Channel 4 scoop about foreign and hidden donations to Reform, Lisa Smart [Liberal Democrat Spokesperson (Cabinet Office)] has called on the police to investigate Reform’s James Orr.

It’s now the top story on the BBC website.

I reckon they were holding back for Chris Mason to do his explainer on the 10 o’clock news live from the Reform conference.

Discussing on Newsnight in a bit too.

They have

Ed Davey

This is serious. If Reform blatantly, intentionally and knowingly broke election law, they should be held fully accountable.

Liberal Democrats have asked the Police and the Electoral Commission to investigate.

Ihateboris · 03/09/2026 22:23

I'm surprised none of his disciples have been on to defend him. Maybe the tide is finally turning?

Give them time. They'll get here and won't be capable of defending him, they'll just attack those of us who dare to criticise him.

It clearly says Re: Mr James Orr in their letter addressed to the Met Police.

It's on radio 4 10pm news.

SabrinaThwaite · 03/09/2026 22:30

It’ll be interesting to see how Farage spins this, given he’s shown on camera whilst illegal donations are being discussed and he expresses his gratitude for the incoming payments.

Personally I can’t see that blaming ‘climate activists’ , ‘hoaxes’ and blaming it all on Orr is going to be enough of a distraction.

SabrinaThwaite · 03/09/2026 22:32

Actually, the only surprising thing is that Farage was actually in Clacton whilst this was being secretly filmed.

...I think the most surprising thing is that he's eating oysters. So much for being one of the people. Where's his fag and his pint??

He’d spin that as oysters are the food of the working class (as long as you turn the clock back to the 19th century).

Jukes and/or Orr proactively suggest the donation should appear to come from the "son".

During the Clacton by-election campaign, Jukes says that Farage wants to meet the "American donor" and will either helicopter to Battersea to see him, or helicopter the "American donor" to Clacton. The meeting takes place in Clacton, where Jukes, Farage, the "American donor" and the "son" are filmed appearing to conspire to circumvent the law (to put it kindly).

Farage says "it's all above board" after the son has told him he has been in discussions with both Jukes and Reform's Head of Policy, James Orr about it for some time.
"I'll be the registered donor," the son says. "But then dad will send the money to me, and then as soon as that's done and all those conversations are had the money is available."
"Thank you. Well, both of you. Thank you," Farage is heard saying.

Yes!

IIRC the Reform apparatchik named several other impermissible donors laundering their donations through their children.

But the broadcasters redacted the names.

Wonder how long till all those come out!

BrandiedAromatics · 03/09/2026 22:47

So the conference is going ahead but the BBC says

Reform UK have launched an internal investigation into Jukes and Orr

Portakalkedi · 03/09/2026 22:47

I would not describe myself as a supporter of Farage but clearly certain parts of the media really have it in for him and Reform, which smacks of fear at their popularity. They're ALL bent, look at Starmer et al with his free clothes, Rayner, now back in cabinet after tax evasion, all the dodgy expenses, all the same, only the amounts of ££ vary. I'd like to see the same treatment given to every one of them.

PerkingFaintly · 03/09/2026 22:47

This is the sort of scrutiny the other major parties have always been under.

Reform seemed to think they could avoid it forever.

Haha, cross-posted with @Portakalkedi .

Well, your wish is being granted.

Reform is indeed getting the same treatment as the other parties: proper scrutiny, and being held to account.
