To All Those Needing To Post Here....

there is a company called HOMESTART, which i know has been mentioned here before by myself and others
however, the amount of extremely sad threads on here have been rising lately and with tragic consequences and i would just like to give you a link to them in the hope that anyone who reads it, will give them a ring and get some help!as motherhood and even just life can be a struggle, and you dont need to go through it on your own.

i have my own homestart helper coming round every week, but i think they can come round more regular and although mine is just for a 'mother figure' and to listen to me, they can do so much more for those of you who are really struggling.

please please call them, im sure they can help and you can start getting yourselves together and begin to enjoy life more.

Would they help me? I had a huge breakdown today after my Dd1 smeared toothpaste everywhere, she has CP as does her brother. Dd1 also has undiagnosed behaviour problems.

I'm so glad there is this thread and I must say Homestart have been fantastic with me
I was diagnosed with pnd after the birth of my dd tow and a half years ago. I had other problems including (and this is quite hard to admit too) selfharming which i've done on and off since i was 14. I referred myself to homestart although my hv helped too and i got a volunteer who came once a week to help me with my kids. I found her a huge help as she was a friendly ear. She distracted ds while i fed dd which normally i found a problem because i was having behavioural difficulties with ds.
It's worth mentioning too that a lot of homestart groups also run creches for the children although there is sometimes a waiting list. I got a place after I broke down once in sheer desperation to my homestart volunteer and she contacted the group organiser and she arranged for me to go once a week to group. They look after dd with the other kids and I get some me time with the other mums in another room for two and half blissful hours. We get to do courses, arts and crafts, we get free tea an coffee, food, friendly advice and company. I broke up with my dp last year and i would never got through it without homestart.

My dd has come on leaps and bounds to through the interaction with the other kids in the groups. my ds has also found it beneficial too as he gets to go to group in the holidays. I now go twice a week and I really look forward to it. I've made a lot of friends there too and it has given me a bit more confidence .

So if any of you get the chance to have a volunteer with homestart or go to the group sessions then go because it's worth it!!. I'm not sure if all the Homestart areas are the same as mine though but even if you just get the volunteer then its worth it.

I didn't have help from Homestart (don't think it existed then as I'm v.old!!) but my HV arranged for me to have a Nursery Nurse student on placement in my home. The children were 5,2 and 8 months and the youngest has a chronic medical condition. TBH she was a lifesaver and really helped me out at what was a very tough time. We still keep in touch now, 10 years on and she's been a great babysitter too over the years.

i know, i was very lucky to get someone so quickly as theyd just started funding near me!

Thanks for posting this. Homestart are due to set up in my area soon and I've got several families on my books (I'm a HV) who would welcome someone with open arms.

They are fab. We even have volunteers on the RAF base out here in Cyprus.

I had a homestart volunteer after leaving my exp due to domestic abuse. They are a great organisation, I can't recommend them highly enough!

ill bump it!! im a homestart volunteer and agree that some ladies on here would probably get a lot of help out of having a volunteer pop around.
you can self refer yourself but you HV would also refer you aswell.
