My mum is 78 years old and started taking mitazapine 4 weeks ago. She had seen no improvement and still in permanent state of severe debilitating anxiety and not eating. We called GP today who spoke to my mum and said well you could stop taking them or increase them or stay the same, I will call you in a months time. I would like to get her more specialised help and she can afford to go privately, ideally a phone call as she is too exhausted to leave the house. Any suggestions where I can access possibly a psychiatrist to look at medication etc as GP is a bit useless. Any advice greatly received at this stage as I’m struggling how to help her.

Look at private hospitals in your area, maybe Spire or Nuffield? Psychiatry of old age is something of a sub specialty.

Does Mum have health insurance? Maybe worth seeing if mental health conditions are covered. Hope she feels better soon x
