Didn't want to wake up

Springtime54 · 05/04/2026 07:37

Now I have, it's the immediate panic and dread. Paralysed to do anything. The absolute struggle of getting through another day. I cant do another 40 - 50 years, I just can't.

Do you feel any better at all? It’s ok if you don’t.

How are you doing now @Springtime54? Did you manage to get any sleep (I hope my tagging you doesn’t wake you)?

Yeah been asleep, just woke up. No you didnt wake me thank you. You've been very kind.

I dont think the gp can help. I'm already on two different types of antidepressants and ive tried 8 others over 25 years. Many different NHS and private psychiatrists. Years of different types of NHS and private therapy too. Thousands of pounds wasted. I think i just cant be helped. I want to disappear.

Edited

I’m really sorry to hear that. I wonder if it’s worth looking into any trials being run by companies into new treatments? I’m sure there must be some for people whose brains don’t respond to traditional treatments.

I know it’s not real, but the show does base its medical stuff on real life cases - in Grey’s Anatomy there was a case where a woman was feeling how it sounds you feel. They tried some sort of electric shock therapy (I can’t remember the exact details) and it basically “reset” her brain - the depression was gone!

Well screw them! You didn’t deserve that at all. I hope you enjoy your lazy day and that a bit of rest helps you to feel a bit better. I still think it’s worth booking a gp appointment, but one step at a time - get through today first!

I'm just going to stay in bed. I dont feel like I can do anything else. I'm hoping to sleep as much as possible as it means I get a bit of an escape. But yes, very sad that I've told a family member how I feel and received no support back. I regret even telling them. Its made me feel worse that it isnt their first thought to offer to come and be with me so that I'm not alone.

I’m sorry they replied that way. I’d like to hope that their thought process was to encourage you to get your and crack on which is thoughtless but at least not being deliberately an arsehole.

Is there something you’d like to do today? Even if that’s a day doing absolutely nothing? The laundry can wait till tomorrow. If you want to lie in bed all day, do it! If you’d like to go for a walk and not do any household chores, go for it. A tv show you’ve liked the look of but never had time - sit and watch it for hours! Do you have a hobby that would be nice to do?

Something that’s just for you and no-one else is always a good bit of self care.

I'm in bed. I've told a family member how I feel and they replied about a favour I said I'd do for them. Just shows doesn't it. I've told them how desperate I feel.

What are you doing now, OP? Have you managed to get up now? Made a cup of tea?
Take it a little bit at a time.

Do you know what it is that's causing you to feel like this?

I just really want this to be over now.

How long have you been feeling this way? Have you spoken to anyone about it at all? You mentioned work - do you have any colleagues that you are friendly with that maybe you could text just to have someone to chat to (you absolutely don’t need to tell them how you are feeling so you don’t share your medical information, but sure if you messaged someone and said Happy Easter and ask if they have any plans today, they would talk to you).

Do you have any family that you can talk to, or that you could explain to them how you are feeling?

If if would help you, would you like to talk to us on here about what’s going on, how you feel, etc. No pressure, but if you think it would help there may be other people on here who have gone through similar that can talk about what’s helped them, or if it’s situation that feels hopeless, maybe we can help you talk it through and look for solutions.

On the face of it, it sounds like you could be in a very deep depression. Have you ever spoken to a medical professional about this? It could be that talking therapy might help you, maybe CBT, maybe medication - there’s probably other things that can help too. When we are in a deep depression, we need help getting out. It’s not something that we can just “cheer up” from or “fake it til you make it” - and that’s not anything to be ashamed of. Sadly there’s no quick fix, but there is hope and help available if you’re prepared to give it a go.

You might think you have no-one, but I promise you there’s at least one person out there that would miss you if you weren’t here. I know when I’ve been depressed I’ve assumed I have no real friends, that I’m just a burden, they’d be better without me and no-one would notice if I’m gone. Antidepressants helped me. B12 injections also helped me (my depression turned out to be a symptom of a B12 deficiency). Once I was feeling better I realised my brain was working to keep me in that depressive state - and it’s likely yours is too. It’s definitely worth getting an urgent doctors appointment (if you can call 111 you can likely get one today even) and the dr will be able to arrange for any tests needed, prescribe you anti depressants (be aware that these can take a couple of weeks to start working), get you on waiting lists for therapy etc.

You said that you work - does your employer offer an employer assistance program? If they do, you can likely access therapy through that a lot faster. If you work in anything to do with the Grocery trade, look up GroceryAid - you can access free therapy through that. As an aside, you won’t be asked to prove that you work for a company in the Grocery trade… so should you contact them and say you work for Tesco and want to access the counselling, you should be able to do that without having to prove it (caveat - for the couples therapy you do have to prove it, but that doesn’t sound like it applies here, and if you look at their other services, you would have to prove you work for someone in the grocery sector if you bc applied for the financial help - but everything else is available to anyone who claims to be working for an eligible company).

Sorry for going on, and please ignore anything not relevant!

Take your time OP. I see that you work so you could open the window. this is great. But yes take your time.

Someone suggested a cup of tea later, also a good idea. Sending you lots of love

Hello OP, we are really sorry to hear you are feeling this way and hope you don't mind us popping by, but when these threads are flagged up to us we usually add a link to our Mental Health Resources. You can also go to the Samaritans website or email them on [email protected].

We know that support from other Mumsnetters is great and we really hope you will be able to take some comfort from your fellow posters, but as other MNers will tell you, it's really a good idea to seek RL help and support as well.
We also like to remind everyone that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.
We are going to move this thread to the Mental Health section shortly. 💖

Please don't move it, it wont get any replies on the mental health section and I don't have anyone else to talk to.

It just doesnt feel hour to hour because I know I need to wash and dry and iron my work uniforms by Tuesday and so far I havent even got them in the wash yet

I appreciate that. Could you set getting them in the wash as the goal between now and bedtime? I often break these tasks down if I’m feeling it’s too much, ignore the drying and ironing for today

Tillow4ever · 05/04/2026 10:14

Someone once told me to just focus on the next hour, not the day/week/month/year etc when times were tough. It really helped me to stop writing off a full day as a bad day.

Is there anything in particular that you are struggling with, or is this just a general feeling? It sounds like it is worth a visit to your GP once you can get through the initial crisis. For today though, please consider using the services shared by posters above. I have a friend who also cannot make phone calls, so I do understand the difficulty you are facing. The text message service definitely sounds like the best initial option for you.

I second this, OP! Brilliant app.

Also, if you don’t want to speak on the phone, you can use SHOUT which is a text mental health helpline - 85258. Put it in your phone so it’s easier if you ever need it again. Anyone they have is trained up.

You don’t have to do the next 40-50 years, you just have to do hour to hour at the moment 💐💐

Have you heard of the "Hub of hope" app OP?
It is a free service that co ordinates all the mental health services.
You out in a rough location and it gives you the contact details if all local services
There will be an out of hours crisis team open in your area today.

24Dogcuddler · 05/04/2026 10:01

@Springtime54 If you don’t want to contact the Samaritans you could ring 111 and select the mental health option. I get what you mean about not wanting to speak on the phone.
They will be used to contact from people who aren’t able to say much. Maybe you could say a couple of words and listen to what they say.
