This journalist admits that his reporting from Gaza was not accurate because he was afraid of retaliation from Hamas.
Why have so many believed every report from Gaza journalists?

Some people have been taken in by it yes.

However in my experience the majority of the anti Israel westerners actually do know most these stories are half truths or lies. They just don't care so long as it works and they can suppress Israel from being a leading nation. Israel is very dangerous because of its success in certain areas and resilience. All despite what it has faced since 1948. That is a worry for many because of what could be possible if they were allowed to just get on with things unhindered. Plus obviously you have those that were taught dodgy stuff about Jews because of their ideology. This is actually pretty false too if anyone studies the ideology in question. There ideology is not as anti Jew as most these people are taught by dodgy religious leaders.

Anyway the lies, half lies and twisted truths are not actually the issue. It is the people that so eagerly swallow anything anti Israel up. They do this in a way most of them would not with anything else. Fact checking and critical thinking go out the window.

Israel is by no means perfect and not always well behaved politically. However it is just a nation like most others and should be treated as most others would.

Have these doctors served time in Gaza? I'm not sure what point your trying to make otherwise. There are racists and antisemites in every profession I'm sure. These are terrorist supporters who also happened to be doctors.

When I mentioned medics I'm specifically talking about the testimonies of those who spent time in Gaza and have officially talked about what they witnessed. Is there a reason you think they're lying?

But as we know access to Gaza is tightly restricted for independent international journalists and external observers, making direct, on-the-ground verification of every individual claim difficult.
Pretty convenient for the Israeli government and the IDF.

The doctors who have raised concerns about what happened in Gaza have been refused entry back into the area by Israel. Yes - go and help but don’t you dare speak to the media.

So did Deir Yassin happen?

Yes pretty clear who's trying to control the narrative.

Martymcfly24 · 25/09/2026 20:42

What kind of information do you think are lies @Neverstopwondering . ?

Israel has acknowledged 70000 plus have died. We know Gaza has been leveled because the images are there. We know prisoners are being held without charge. We know aid has been witheld (the amount is obviously under dispute from either side) and that there is a huminatarian crisis due to it. We also know there has been incidents like the ambulances and Hind Rajab where the IDF has admitted responsibility after initial denial.

Absolutely propaganda has been used by both sides in the conflict but what do you think are the the "lies, half lies and twisted truths"

OpheliaWasntMad · 25/09/2026 20:46

Islandsofsand · 25/09/2026 20:29

Of course there are two competing narratives but the victors no longer control it. SM has been a great equaliser- despite Israel trying to keep out journalists. Even with some reservations about Hamas propaganda - enough is available to cause consternation about what has happened in Gaza.

I am not sure why people are still trying to massage the obvious and cast doubts.

I genuinely feel for Palestinians. They have been dealt a rough hand in terms of their leadership and in terms of the contempt the extreme right wing Israelis have for them. And I have been to Rafah and only met lovely people. ( And I would say the same about the lovely Israelis I met)
I have a background in Northern Ireland and I know how easy it is to demonise people. I think the Israelis ( and, by extension the Jewish world wide) are being demonised.
When I think of October 7th , the way in which Jewish people have been demonised for centuries, the Holocaust, the fact that Arab countries expelled their Jewish communities…. I understand their desire to have one safe place for Jews on this planet.
And I will always support that. ( but I don’t support atrocities against innocent Palestinians and those must be investigated)

Who is treating Israel any different here? Practically all war torn countries allow in independent journalists. What ever the danger to the journalist’s lives. Why don’t Israel? Surely even you can see this as being a little bit suspect? Why is anyone trying to stop Israel from being successful? Who is trying to do this? Most people would just like equality between Israel and Palestine. It’s not that hard to see. The only truthful thing you said was Israel were not perfect.

NullaEffugium · 25/09/2026 20:50

Why have so many believed every report from Gaza journalists?

In my opinion, reports by Gaza journalists have come under higher than usual scrutiny so the question really should be why have so few believed the reports from Gaza journalists, not so many.

Because Israel has denied entry of independent journalists since the start of the conflict. By independent, I mean a journalist who isn’t born and raised in the current war zone they are reporting from. This is going to create unconscious bias, it’s not a moral failing but a fact. Israel has only allowed carefully orchestrated tours of a few journalists with the IDF which also do not meet the criteria for independent journalism.

Gaza journalists are only tangentially linked to Hamas’ lies and propaganda. Hamas lies and propaganda have been coming from outside Gaza - eg the IRG, Hezbollah, Hamas officials living in countries outside the Palestinian Territories.

I really feel for Jewish people who have suffered antisemitism because of what has happened in Gaza. The fault lies solely with the antisemites and shouldn’t be used to silence concerns about what has happened in Gaza.

Isn't it fucking ridiculous that Martin Luther King Jnr made his I have a dream speech 63 years ago and we still haven't got the message. Imagine a country in the Middle East where you had the tenacity and ingenuity of Jews, Christians and Muslims all living in a country they all hold holy but living together as brothers and sisters. What happened in Deir Yassin was awful but what happened before is a beautiful model of what Israel could be.

But I think the point is that there is very little reliable and fair reporting in this conflict.
From either side. I would give the most weight with the medical professionals and their testimonies when returning from Gaza.

But I think this raises the issue of whether it is even possible to be an independent journalist in Gaza when Hamas is the ruling authority
If independent professional war correspondents were threatened by Hamas they would report it. It would be part of their narrative, there is no reason why they should not be let in.

No - I don’t think THEY would be threatened.( obviously) It would be their Palestinian sources who would be threatened

That is a very valid point and I agree. I'm guessing the journalists would be clever enough to realise that though.

War correspondents have been doing that kind of thing for decades. Some have lost their lives as a result. The point is, war correspondents know the risk of their jobs. Other than being protected by the Geneva conventions, they all accept that they are responsible for their own safety.

One of the problems when you program your AI driven drones to hunt down anyone wearing a journalist jacket. How could you let international journalists into Gaza and guarantee their safety when automated drones would hunt them down.
