Thoughts on Casey for a boy???

Hello 👋 Basically, I’m 20 weeks pregnant and we have just found out we’re having a boy. I LOVE the name Casey, but my partner says it’s a girl name/too girly. Will we get that from a lot of other people (e.g our judgmental parents) and more importantly, will he be picked on in high school for having a “girls” name?? We are in England, which I thought to mention as the stats between boys vs girls with the name seems to vary by country but google says UK is 70% girls to 30% boy. What do you think????

I would assume Casey with that spelling was a boy. The girls I have come across use a K spelling usually Kacie.

The Casey I know has had problems with his name. He’d frequently receive work emails addressed to Ms (surname) instead of Mr. He’d receive mail/post addressed to Ms instead of Mr. He was recorded as female instead of male with a major blood/pathology place, meaning that all of the reference values were incorrect for him for a number of years of blood tests. He was invited to a women’s networking work event for women only. He responded to them and said that he’d love to go and was there any problem with him being a man and not a woman? They had to apologise and explain that no he couldn’t go as it was women only. He then asked why they thought he was a woman. They’d assumed from his first name. He ended up having to have a work email signature containing his name as Mr Casey (surname). It helped to reduce it.

Terrible name for a man. He’s annoyed at his parents for not giving him a clearly male name.

It’s a very common surname in Ireland so it probably wouldn’t work here but it might work in other countries.

Its a very American name and really only used for females in the UK

I know male and female Caseys.

All apart from Shane are surnames.

I have a boy Casey!! 🥰🥰🥰 my boy is 2 years old but I have had nothing but praise over his name! I also worried people might think it leans more girl name, but in the end that hasn’t been the case at all.

I remember watching home and away in the 2010’s and there was the character Casey Braxton. So to me it was always a gender neutral name. And in recent years the extreme popularity of Yellowstone would no doubt have people of our generation familiarize with Casey being neutral/boy.

My boys name suits him soooo well too. Like there is no other name out there that would suit him as well. I look at him and just see him as a Casey. It feels very natural 🥰 if you choose Casey for your boy I promise you you won’t regret it. It’s such a beautiful name. ❤️ (I did give my boy a very “boy name” middle name, so if someone is looking at his name on a registration form for example they would be able to deduce he’s a boy from looking at the middle name).

It’s not girly enough or even common enough to be a girls name. Kids won’t think anything of it by the time they’re at high school anyway, it’s only adults who judge names, kids don’t

I’ve only met female Caseys, although I do realise it is a gender neutral name. Personally OP, I’d go for something safer ie a name that is less likely to cause teasing or confusion. Maybe use Casey as middle name and if your son really likes it, he can decide to use that? You can also use his middle name within the family but put something more ‘normal’ as the first name on the birth certificate. Eg my grandmother was always known as Louise and that was her middle name but she had a completely different first name.

I once knew a beautiful, funny, kind man called Casey. He was American.
Anyway for this reason I love it!!
