Dd nearly a week old and still no name.struggling to choose one. We have the middle name Iris and a one syllable surname. Need a first name. Quite like Lottie but high up the popularity list and would want a longer name I think shortened to Lottie but don't like Charlotte. Other contender was Liliana (shortened to Lily) but again very popular and would be 2 flowers together with the middle name.

Having always disliked Harper dp mentioned it in passing and I love it but he isn't now liking it.

I'm starting to find the whole thing so stressful now when it should be fun. Just want us to decide upon a name for her so we can announce her arrival properly and start using it and getting used to it ahead of our registration appointment next week. I just look at her and she's this perfect little thing that deserves a name that acknowledges how precious she is! Any help appreciated.

I think that pronunciation is getting a bit close to "little anus" in English !

Well, you must be proununcing it totally differently as I really can't see how you can come up with that!!! There are no T's in the name for a start . . . .

DrEmilyCrabtree · 20/07/2026 17:40

Lilliana is nice. How about Loretta with Lottie as diminutive? I like Lottie, and know a middle aged one and a teenage one, but no others.

seagullsandbeachhuts · 20/07/2026 17:55

Instead of Liliana, how about Lillian? Much easier to pronounce, I think.

I guess I'm thinking "l'il."

I think it's the AYN rather than AH that triggered that word for me.

IAmARayOfSunshine · 20/07/2026 20:49

If you call her those names which one feels right?

Lily and Lottie are immensely popular. Lily especially, Liliana is nice though.

Xmasallergies · 20/07/2026 20:54

Lilia?

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 20/07/2026 20:55

I was also going to say Harriet or Henrietta shortened to Hattie or Hetty.

Other options:
Arrietty
Lotte (pronounced Lotta)
Matilda/ Mattie

Needmorelego · 20/07/2026 21:02

I like Lily.
I think it's fine as just Lily - it doesn't need to be short for anything.
Congratulations on baby 👶

BeaLola · 20/07/2026 21:07

Congrats on baby

I’m not helpful as I like Charlotte , how about Louisa Iris ?

Firebird83 · 20/07/2026 21:45

Liselotte “Lottie”?

Giraffehaver · 20/07/2026 22:21

Lillian Iris?

smallgreenandsplitthreeways · 20/07/2026 22:31

Lavinia Iris
eleanor Iris
Enola Iris
Leanna Iris
Lowenna Iris
Leonora Iris

SuperGinger · 20/07/2026 22:42

I love Carlotta so much better than Charlotte

Norastroud · 21/07/2026 18:32

Congratulations on your baby girl!
I do like Charlotte and also Ottilie shortened to Lottie.
Also love Lily, i like Lillian as a longer version but think Lily is a great name on its own. I know it’s meant to be really popular but I only know 2 little ones under the age of 3.
Molly King’s daughter is called Liliana which is very pretty too.

goodluck!

LivingTheDreamish · 23/07/2026 05:24

Congratulations OP! Another vote for Carlotta Iris - she can be Lottie day to day.

Phoenix321 · 23/07/2026 08:30

Thank you all. We went for Liliana Iris in the end. After trying out both names just felt that one suited her better!

Lottie and Lily are both lovely names you really don't need to worry about lengthening it

Lottie is absolutely a nickname not a full name.

She was referring to Liliana pronounced as lil-aynuh.
Lilaynuh's lil anus.

"aynuh" sounds nothing like anus though 🤷
Very bizarre thinking.

There's no "S" on the end of "aynuh" though.
Some people really do like to make up nonsense about not using names because it might sound like something else completely unconnected.

@Phoenix321 I think the name is lovely.

LivingTheDreamish · 23/07/2026 17:32

oh that’s a lovely name!

Lottie is absolutely a nickname not a full name.

It is a diminutive used as a full name in itsown right. A nickname would be something like Spud, Nugget, Bean etc etc.
