Not what we were expecting to name her!

Our beautiful girl finally made an appearance at 4:23 this morning. After compiling a list of names for her, we realised she was a Jemima which wasn't on our list at all. She just looks like a Jemima to both of us and all other names were forgotten. Does this happen often, when a random not discussed name suddenly comes with baby out of nowhere or are we very weird?!

I was quite convinced I was having a girl so hadn’t decided on any boys names at all. When in the delivery room, coming round from anaesthetic, I still thought baby was a girl so said, She’s called Amy. The midwife told my husband he was called Jamie and that was it, he was!

This is so lovely 🥰

TemuTrinny · 27/02/2026 19:44

Beautiful name. Congratulations on being Jemima’s mummy. I had an auntie Jemima who was always called Mima which I love, she was very special.

DJKATIE · 27/02/2026 19:40

Gorgeous name

schnubbins · 27/02/2026 19:17

Jemima Potts from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang together with Truly Scrumptious

For me two perfect names .

Oohd · 27/02/2026 19:09

Massive congratulations. Love the name Jemima, that would have been my sons name if he was a girl.💐

EatAllDay · 27/02/2026 19:04

Yes, that happened with my first dc. The name we had agreed for him we eventually used on our 4th

Bowies · 27/02/2026 18:57

Yes, an off list name appeared and was agreed during the labour!

When my granddaughter was born, she was always going to be Jamie-Lee. When she was actually born my daughter called her another name altogether out of the blue, and totally suits her.

ERthree · 27/02/2026 18:36

Congratulations💐What a lovely name.

NormasArse · 27/02/2026 09:53

That’s my favourite girls’ name, and my DD’s middle name (she’s adopted, but we wanted to give her a name from us too).

Congratulations!!

HugoThatway · 27/02/2026 09:50

Congratulations! I love the name Jemima.
It is much nicer than Romilly and Tasmin.

Congratulations and what a lovely name you’ve chosen Smile

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 27/02/2026 07:59

Congratulations!

Not exactly the same, but neither of my boys have my favourite boys name.

whattheysay · 27/02/2026 07:56

Yes dd1’s name wasn’t on our list we hadn’t even considered it. The name we chose just didn’t seem right at all so she didn’t have a name for a few days. We saw the name and I immediately thought that's the name.
Dd2 and Ds names we picked before they were born and the names suited them

Nosejobnelly · 27/02/2026 07:45

Congratulations! Not that late but we only decided on DDs name a few days before. If she’d been born on her due date she’d def have another name!
we’d picked up DS’s name when we first met and we stuck to our guns!

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 27/02/2026 07:41

The puddleduck. Very cute.

LittlePetitePsychopath · 27/02/2026 07:33

There’s some baffling comments in this thread.

Jemima and Regina are real names. Phalanges are bones in your hands.

Why would anyone anyone be teased about sharing a name with a duck, or a brand of pancake mix in a different country? 🥴

And isn’t it quite rude to come onto a thread where someone announces what they’ve named their child (already; not asking for feedback) and say why you wouldn’t use it?!

Anyway, congratulations OP! Soak it all in. Welcome to the world, Jemima!

Calliopespa · 27/02/2026 06:55

Well I think that's just you. It is definitely a name, just like Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny have proper names that are not just for rabbits..

Yes, and while we are on the subject Regina is a real name, and phalanges are the bones in your hands so that’s not made up either 😂

Overthebow · 27/02/2026 07:21

I love Jemima puddle duck! Great name.

DarkEyedSailor · 27/02/2026 07:08

Jemima is a Hebrew name, it's not made up (neither is Regina)

Philandbill · 27/02/2026 07:04

Lovely name. I know a Jemima, she's fantastic- caring, independent and very clever. Currently at university of her choice after stellar A level results. Enjoy time with your newborn daughter OP.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 27/02/2026 06:59

Jemima is lovely. The two baby girls I know are Tabitha and Zola and I know a one year old called Roscoe.

Thingscouldntgetanyworse · 26/02/2026 22:54

Are you not worried people will call her Jemima puddleduck? That’s the first thing that popped into my head. I thought jemima was a funny made up name, like how on Friends Phoebe calls herself Regina Phalange 😅

Well I think that's just you. It is definitely a name, just like Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny have proper names that are not just for rabbits..

Beenwhereyouareagain · 27/02/2026 03:06

I love the name, always have, but I thought a child would be teased and called Aunt Jemima.

Aunt Jemima was the brand name of pancake mix and syrup up until the 2010s in the US. Probably why I've never known a Jemima in real life.

Congratulations on sweet Jemima!

Never heard of Aunt Jemima pancake mix before.
Jemima Puddleduck is sweet and so is the name Jemima. Perfect name for a beautiful baby girl. Congratulations OP and welcome to the world Jemima. ❤️
