Hello all!
Looking for a middle name for Agnes and was wondering what the general public thinks of these:

Agnes Elsa
Agnes Elsie
Agnes Essie
Agnes Élise / Elise
Agnes Elyse
Agnes Elvira

As you can see from the poll I have a thing for names that start with an E 😜

Other names we like are:

Agnes Iris
Agnes Lovisa
Agnes Vilhelmina

Or can you think of names that you think we would like...

TY!😍

Just the spelling 🙈

Thought as much 🙈

StewkeyBlue · 28/09/2025 09:54

Too many S’s going on.

With the S sounding like the start of the next name. Agnes Elsie sounds like Agnes Selsey (as in Selsey Bill) Agnes Seltzer, etc.

No E names (or other vowels) no names with S.

Caplin · 28/09/2025 09:33

Wow, clearly Agnes is a bit marmite!

My mum is Agnes, but has always been known as Nancy which is weirdly an old nickname for Agnes.

She hates it, but I think it has been having revival with Agnes B and Agnes Deyn. It is quite cool again. I think it is pretty classy and french, not too cutesy.

My mum has a family surname as her middle name which makes it unusual.

Thebrink · 28/09/2025 09:11

My Grandmother was Agnes Jemima.

Agnes Eliza

I like this one :) Agnes has grown on me over the past few years, and will see them well over a lifetime. I think people forget that they are only a baby for a short time, and that they will one day be an old lady!

mezlou84 · 28/09/2025 04:51

Agnes Elise is the best of those combinations in my opinion. Agnes Erin or Agnes Elizabeth are better with Elizabeth preferred. However your baby, your choice and she will grow into her name. Congratulations

OhYeahOhYeah · 27/09/2025 23:43

Eek it is such a harsh, ugly first name

I would pick almost anything else over Agnes, sorry….

My great grandma was Agnes Elenor (she didn’t care for the name and went by Ellie). We names our daughter Ellie (after her), as Agnes is awful if you aren’t 85!

DangerousAlchemy · 27/09/2025 22:48

I'm not a fan of Agnes at all. If you like old fashioned names how about:
Audrey
Margot
Iris
Rosemary
Bridget
Ada
Dorothy
Harriet
Flora
Caroline
Ivy
Violet
even Agatha is better than Agnes imo

Cheeky19863 · 27/09/2025 22:07

Of all the beautiful names to choose from you choose Agnes? Why? Its awful

My Nan was Agnes Gwendoline
I love the name Agnes

HeartyStork · 27/09/2025 20:41

I have to agree with some of the other posters it's such a harsh name to inflict on a baby, and never mind a child at school.
I apologise if your wanting to use it, if your naming her after a beloved relative. But please think about using it as a middle name instead, I've worked in schools and kids can be so cruel. It doesn't even shorten to a prettier sounding name either. Some old fashioned names need to stay in the past. And this is one of them.

What's the difference between Élise, Elise and Elyse?

Just the spelling 🙈

Undercookedby10 · 27/09/2025 20:19

Love Agnes! Agnes Elise from the E names.

But I do love, Agnes Olivia ❤️

NormallyAwkward · 27/09/2025 20:16

I dunno why but Agnes Maeve popped into my head.

Emmz1510 · 27/09/2025 20:10

I don’t like any of these as I think together with Agnes they are all too much of a mouthful. I feel it should be either a one syllable middle name or three plus. No idea why, just seems to trip off the tongue better!
ie
Agnes Jane
Agnes Victoria
Agnes Elizabeth
Agnes Aurora
Agnes Grace
Agnes Jennifer
Agnes Jessica

Louoby · 27/09/2025 20:09

Agnes is just awful! Any other names on the table? I think your daughter will hate you for choosing that name.

SazKaka · 27/09/2025 20:08

Sorry but Elvira sounds like a shampoo 🙊

TinaTotal · 27/09/2025 20:07

Like a lot of others I came to say Agnes Elizabeth 👍

Fortunefavoursthebrave · 27/09/2025 20:05

None of them sorry. My aunt was called Agnes and always got called Aggie, she really hated it.

Taggys · 27/09/2025 13:50

New poll if you don't mind 😂😆: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/baby_names/5417965-new-agnes
