Nick is my favourite boys name (short for Nicholas) but wanted to know other people’s opinions! Also may use Nicky as a nickname when younger.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

The Nicholas I knew would have been in his early 20s now, although sadly he died as a child. He was a beautiful, bright, bonny child. Definitely Nicholas!

We are expecting twin boys and have decided on Nicholas for one. We love it, and all the nicknames. Neither of us have ever met a Nick we don’t like.

I think it’s so so dated.

Every boy Nick I know is 50 plus.

To me it would be like calling a baby Steve, Dave, Martin, Paul. Nothing wrong with those names as such, but just of their time. It’s not a classic like James, William, Harry, George.

It’s generational though isn’t it. The tendancy now is to name children from our grandparents generation, hence all the Alfie, George, Harry.

When I was at school there were plenty of James but not a single William, George or Henry.

so I predict in the next 10 years there will be far more Nick, Paul, Martin and Stephens.

Nicky is cute.
Nick makes me think of stealing stuff.
It’s very 1970’s
I think there are nicer names.

CurlewKate · 12/09/2025 07:39

I love classic unfussy names. And it’s a good way to find something really unusual!

I love the name and think the nn Nicky is adorable - like the boy in The Tiger Who Came To Tea!
it was on my list though and I didn’t use it because of ‘Knickerless’, but I still love the name!

Mog, rather than The Tiger Who Came To Tea! Still Judith Kerr, but that confused me for a moment.TTWCTT is Sophie.

I love Nicholas/Nick.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 12/09/2025 07:43

Nicholas with nicky for short defo xx

CurlewKate · 12/09/2025 07:44

I’m always amused at the “dated” comments! My mother wanted to call me Emily-but was put off by all her friends saying it was sooooo dull and old fashioned. So she called me Cathleen. That went well!

RosesAndHellebores · 12/09/2025 07:49

It's a classic and it's nice. I may be biased. I don't like Nicky though.

Whoops, must have been half asleep! Definitely Mog!

ZubinB · 12/09/2025 20:20

my brother has always been Nik. He is 50 and it still suits him and seems fresh 😊

Ddakji · 12/09/2025 20:24

Lovely, I am married to one! Family tend to call him Nicholas but he’s always Nick to me.

notacooldad · 12/09/2025 20:27

If i had had a third boy he would have been a Nick.
I dont like Nicky though.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/09/2025 20:38

Lovely name.

Jamclag · 12/09/2025 22:29

Love Nicholas - Nicky and Nick too.
Yes there are lots of Gen X Nicks but it feels quite fresh for a baby now.

This is a book we don’t have on our shelf, I shall purchase as my DD loves the tiger who came for tea! I didn’t know she had written other books!

No, I don’t think so. His family are the ones who tend to call him Nicholas.

I think maybe a couple of uni friends called him Nicky.

Ronso · 20/09/2025 20:08
