Does she have any nicknames? Does anyone shorten it in an unusual way?

Just that really!

I know one who gets called Rissy

My grandma was Iris, really wanted to call any DD after her but DH hated it 🤷🏼‍♀️ . The only one I know has the nickname of Rissy

I know a 5 yr old girl who spells it Eirys!

Porridgeoat · 03/08/2020 02:20

I know 3 and all went by full name. Aged 90, 30, 5

Porridgeoat · 03/08/2020 02:20

And 10.

Yes, but she’s Austrian and pronounces it Ear-iss.

She doesn’t have any nicknames (that I’m aware of)

I know one, she is about 90. Lovely lady, pretty name too. I've not heard anyone call her by a shortened version or nickname.

'Iris' could be one of those names that comes back, it's so nice.

Marahute · 03/08/2020 05:39

I know two babies called Iris. No shortened version for either.

This is the Welsh form of the name.

Yes my Nan and she's 100! If I had a girl I'd definitely call her Iris, such a pretty name 😍

GirlCalledJames · 03/08/2020 10:22

Irisette or Irisielle. There’s no logic to nicknames.

SomeWateryTart · 03/08/2020 10:47

I know one who is about 7. I think she is just Iris. It's a lovely name. Not sure how it could be shortened.... Iry? Ira? Riss? Ires? Not an obvious shortening there tbh.

SE13Mummy · 03/08/2020 11:51

I know a couple of secondary school aged girls named Iris. Nicknames include Irie, Ris, Rissy, Issy and I.

1940s · 03/08/2020 15:44

The Iris I know mainly goes by 'I' (eye) by the family 'Aunty I'

irissmith · 05/09/2024 23:07

Hi, I’m an Iris here and people always call Irie, Rissy, or Pirate. Mostly just my formal name though. 🤗
