Does she have any nicknames? Does anyone shorten it in an unusual way?

Just that really!

Hi, I’m an Iris here and people always call Irie, Rissy, or Pirate. Mostly just my formal name though. 🤗

1940s · 03/08/2020 15:44

The Iris I know mainly goes by 'I' (eye) by the family 'Aunty I'

SE13Mummy · 03/08/2020 11:51

I know a couple of secondary school aged girls named Iris. Nicknames include Irie, Ris, Rissy, Issy and I.

SomeWateryTart · 03/08/2020 10:47

I know one who is about 7. I think she is just Iris. It's a lovely name. Not sure how it could be shortened.... Iry? Ira? Riss? Ires? Not an obvious shortening there tbh.

GirlCalledJames · 03/08/2020 10:22

Irisette or Irisielle. There’s no logic to nicknames.

DumpedByText · 03/08/2020 05:50

Yes my Nan and she's 100! If I had a girl I'd definitely call her Iris, such a pretty name 😍

ElizabethMainwaring · 03/08/2020 05:45

@EuphieKat

I know a 5 yr old girl who spells it Eirys!
This is the Welsh form of the name.
Marahute · 03/08/2020 05:39

I know two babies called Iris. No shortened version for either.

jessstan2 · 03/08/2020 02:36

I know one, she is about 90. Lovely lady, pretty name too. I've not heard anyone call her by a shortened version or nickname.

'Iris' could be one of those names that comes back, it's so nice.

lydia7986 · 03/08/2020 02:25

Yes, but she’s Austrian and pronounces it Ear-iss.

She doesn’t have any nicknames (that I’m aware of)

Porridgeoat · 03/08/2020 02:20

And 10.

Porridgeoat · 03/08/2020 02:20

I know 3 and all went by full name. Aged 90, 30, 5

EuphieKat · 03/08/2020 01:52

I know a 5 yr old girl who spells it Eirys!

ohflourofscotland · 03/08/2020 01:14

My grandma was Iris, really wanted to call any DD after her but DH hated it 🤷🏼‍♀️ . The only one I know has the nickname of Rissy

123Dancewithme · 03/08/2020 01:07

I know one who gets called Rissy

SomethingPhishy · 02/08/2020 23:03

I know one in her 40's. She's German & it's pronounced 'ii-ris'. Never heard her called anything other than that, no nickname.

MamaLoLo1 · 02/08/2020 22:57

I know a French one (pronounced ear-iss).

BettaSplenden · 02/08/2020 17:19

I knew a lady called iris. She was nicknamed I-ree (no idea on spelling - it was said a bit like alriiight) she was hilarious and only went by iris at church and when she was with her sister who was very prim and proper.

Magicbabywaves · 02/08/2020 17:09

My Iris gets called I pie. Then Ipes. But it really isn’t a name with an obvious pet form.

Carouselfish · 02/08/2020 17:07

Daughter's middle name, cousin's daughter's first name.

MikeUniformMike · 02/08/2020 17:04

I, Irie. Eyez

CatsArePeopleToo · 02/08/2020 14:04

My MIL. She gets called "I"

KateF · 02/08/2020 13:14

I know a lovely 15 year old Iris. Not shortened but I know she has a family nickname. It's a really nice name, recognised but not used too much.

octoberfarm · 02/08/2020 13:06

I had a relative called Iris who was one of the loveliest people I've ever met. Lovely name, and she never shortened it to my knowledge.

HD98 · 02/08/2020 13:04

I know 1 - she's 8. Never heard any nicknames for Iris. I imagine Irie would be most likely? Which isn't anything terrible.
Iris is a nice name.
