To think the French students are out of control?

ITVXsponsoredbyDominoes · Yesterday 19:53

Demonstrating against large class sizes is one thing.

Smashing up shop windows and looting goods is another.

Idiots. They are 14/15 and when they are arrested the French authorities will come down on them and their criminal records will stay with them forever. Where are the parents in all of this?

Woukd this happen in the UK?

I disagree.

This thread says differently.

I rather suspect you will find yourself on the wrong side of history, too.

What needs to happen is that the police stop focusing on suppressing the demonstration and allow the marches to happen peacefully (which is what usually happens). In Montpellier (one of the nearest cities to where I am) there was a group of musicians playing protest songs with the protesters of all ages and races singing along, it was great, and the police started throwing tear gas into the crowd. At the same time in a street nearby thugs were breaking into a sports shoe shop.
The police are lashing out at kids running away from them or already on the ground.

Interesting, but I see the Prefet du Rhone has just said most of those arrested in the troubles there last night were adult males....

I am sure putin is rubbing his hands seeing how his investment paid off

WhatATimeToBeAlive · Today 08:52

I think you'll find the looting and burning is mostly not being done by "French" people.

Zoopet · Today 08:54

Nice is a beautiful city.
It is in a very affluent area of France and does not appear to be deprieved.
The smashing and looting is taking place across France and the peaceful, school protests( justified) have been hijacked by darker, co-ordinated attacks which are nothing to do with the education budget.

EmeraldShamrock000 · Yesterday 21:07

They’re out of control. It is frightening. Similar scenes in Denmark. They are joined by thugs who just want to burn down the place.
Attacking innocent people trying to earn a living. Calling for the death of the police trying to protect the country.
Students are protesting in other European countries too but are not destroying their own cities and stores.
They have lost any high ground. Who wants these people working in professional jobs?

Denmark?!

Huh

I haven’t seen that. I thought Denmark had good education.

Flormed · Today 09:01

It’s pretty obvious that a valid protest from students has been hijacked by a violent mob with various agendas and is now escalating.

And there is some romanticisation of the French and ‘revolution’ going on which is making me cringe a bit. Violence and injury is nothing to celebrate or revere.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · Today 09:01

It’s not very difficult to understand that rioters have different motives. So many people are on the streets in France that it would be amazing if they were a single-minded mob.

The school children would mostly have gone home when the really nasty mayhem started - not all of them, sure, but most. Who’s left are a mixture of the left, anarchists (generally left-inclined in most people’s eyes) and opportunistic looters.

This really doesn’t any longer have anything to do with the cost of living, state support etc, if it ever did. It’s violence for political ends. The French left is warming up for massive violence if Le Pen wins next April.

Some political aims are founded on and celebrate a state of violence. The far-right does it from time to time, but generally in Europe you can be pretty sure that ‘protest’ that becomes violence is caused by the left and the anarchists.

Naunet · Today 09:05

blankcanvas3 · Yesterday 19:55

I do have to admire the French’s passion when it comes to anything they aren’t happy with though. Violence is never the answer, but they simply don’t take things lying down. We sit complaining about our ever increasing prices, our ever decreasing quality of public services but don’t do anything about it. Part of me just thinks, viva la revolucion. At least they’re doing something about it.

They beat the shit out of an innocent elderly woman after breaking into her property. There's nothing to admire, they're entitled, violent, far left thugs enjoying a riot.

Gwenhwyfar · Today 09:06

celeriacismisunderstood · Yesterday 21:37

There is a lot of burning and looting.

Yes, by looters, not by protesters, which is my point.

Raiderofthelostbattenburg · Today 09:06

My understanding is that the student protestors are young people with legitimate concerns about their education and their future.

Those protests have been hijacked by violent far-left agitators, many of whom peddle in dangerous anti semitic conspiracy theories.

The ensuing violence has then been weaponised by the far-right who are now using it to spread dangerous conspiracy theories and fear-mongering of their own.

And the only beneficiary is the Kremlin propaganda machine who love to see Europe in a state of perpetual division.

It's not protesters doing that, it's thugs and those thugs are there for violence. They're not far left nor do they care about any politics.

As I've said and others, there are two different groups!

SmallDFartyCarNRG · Today 09:10

Very similar in feeling to the hundreds of masked men arriving in ports. It is all social media from Russia designed to divide people from within. Some sections of society love any excuse to rage and be violent and are attracted to anything that gives that legitimacy. These are the attacks we have been warned about from Russia on EU.

The 'thread', what do you mean 'the thread'. The thread is not a person living in one of the places where this is taking place. There are people on this thread obviously getting misinformation from the media.

Electra10E · Today 09:13

The cure for the far left is the far right.

If the medicine kills the patient, it will be squarely on the far left.

EmeraldShamrock000 · Today 09:13

A lot of students have been involved in violence too. It has attracted a lot of scum, the students behaved like scum, I wouldn’t be separating them into two groups.
The buildings they’ve destroyed , the business, causing mass unemployment.
The COL crisis is crippling many people financially including myself. The violence may spread across Europe.

localnotail · Today 09:16

I feel like French have this urge to protest violently and it just has to happen otherwise they are not happy.

Seriously though - I think it was a legitimate cause but it has been taken over. I seriously doubt many of people protesting now are school children. I have seen a lot of Palestinian flags and face coverings in the photos of the protesters and they all look like young adult males. So I assume its the usual anarchist anti-establishment/ anti-capitalist crowd.

Horrible to hear that kids were injured in all this.

How do you know?!
Yesterday was planned, it was clear what would happen, I highly doubt genuine protestors who dont want violenc, would attend if they had even a sliver of common sense. Also some of them were carrying Palestine flags, so yes, the far left.

Monty36 · Today 09:20

The EU need to be sure who is behind it. France is a key country in the EU. Just after Donald Trump gave support to Putin by removing sanctions. And ensured Ukraine could not defend themselves.
It is worrying.
If Trump does badly in the mid terms which is predicted, and he aligns himself more openly with Putin who knows what the future holds.

Madamefroufrou · Today 09:20

I have only just seen the shocking footage of Limoges Hotel de Ville destroyed.
and the attendant looting.

Does anyone here know Limoges? A beautiful city, elegant, known for its ironwork balconies, porcelain, architecture, railway station, small exclusive shops, cafes,
bars and la Belle Epoque Town Hall.

These are not students protesting. Anyone knowing the layout of the town and its
migrant history will know who they are, remembering the riots in Limoges of 2005 when the residents of the Banlieues of Limoges, the ZUP’s of Val de l’Aurence and other, many concrete tower blocks rioted.

The line between the sublime architecture, civilised tone, tranquility of Limoges
and the concrete tower blocks of the northern suburbs has always been acute,
the problems perennial.

Paris, Montpellier, Toulouse, all beacons it seems.

French penchant for complaining protesting rioting is tolerated as a National characteristic.
The destroying of an iconic building in the heart of their community is a declaration
of something close to war, no matter their grievances, social inequality, poverty,
disenfranchisement, this is lawless, this is 5th columnists, mindless vandalism,
it is always easier to destroy than create, build, or restore.
This awful destruction does not speed the plow, it impedes any progress, in communications, resolve, result.

The motives for violence and theft may differ among the rioters but there is not a group of peaceful banner wavers standing in the middle of the chaos and flames just trying to make a point.

Anyone who didn’t have a job to do - like policing or guarding their property - and was around the disorder in France last night was committing or enjoying the violence. Most, probably nearly all, were there for left-wing political reasons.
