To think people shouldn't park on yellow lines or park dangerously near schools?

It happens constantly; both at my little one's primary, and also at my older child's secondary?
Junctions are also parked on, and driveways blocked.
Sadly a lady was knocked over at a crossing near the primary school a few weeks' ago. Of course we don't know the ins and outs, but selfish parking does absolutely reduce visibility.

Councils should employ part time wardens & issue bucket loads of tickets for 6 months. Sorted.

YABU, everyone should of course park on yellow lines and dangerously near schools.

@BugJuice Are you one of the many that do?

No, it was just a ridiculous title 😂. Who on earth would come on to the thread and say YABU?

Just wondering if the headteacher thought to ask the parents directly why they are parking there before contacting the police? It seems extreme to call the police on children's parents. Have they ever thought of the knock on effect on the wellbeing of the children in her care if the police choose to act on it. The implications for the children could be severe if parents get into trouble.That should be at the forefront of any good headteachers mind instead of willy nilly contacting the police.

Surely it's down to the parents to make sure they aren't breaking the law and endangering other children's lives.

Of course the Head should contact the police. Parents are aware of where shouldn’t park and are ignoring the safety of all children.
Actions have consequences - would be a good reminder from the police

@BugJuice Well someone did!
And it still begs the question, if we are all saying it is unreasonable, why are so many doing it?!!

I live near a school and mostly the parking is fairly OK. It is a rarity for anyone to park over a drive and if it is reported to the school the head will come down on the parent like a ton of bricks. From time to time or if it gets bad the police or parking wardens attend and tickets are issued and then it gets better.
What I do find strange is how bad the driving is by parents in a rush who are dropping their kids off. They just pull out because they are in a hurry to go.

I do agree but I also think councils should consider parking when they build schools not because parents deserve somewhere to park but purely because of the chaos it causes and danger to children. Or staggered start/ finish times although I appreciate there would still be people with multiple children.

In fairness, most schools were built a long time ago. The sort of Victorian school I went to for juniors was built when cars hadn’t been conceived of by most people.

I remember a story (on here or somewhere else, I can’t remember) where the Head had written to all the local residents to say that they were having some event so please could the residents park elsewhere so parents can “come together as a school community”. Problem was that the residents had had enough of the parents and school and were damned if they were doing them any favours. Then the Head wrote to everyone to say how disappointed he was. I’ll see if I can find it.
