Club Bars - far superior to Penguins arent they?

Found them on sale in Aldi for about £1.25 for 7

Theyve shrunk ofc but are so delicious

Can only find the orange ones ot the 'gold' ones, which i suspect are white chocolate (not a fan)

I had one, then had a penguin orange - penguin was just subpar. Too much biscuit - the bite in a Club before you get to the actual biscuit is immense

Anyway - who am I if not a woman who shares her random thoughts with mumsnet?!

Always found Clubs to be a bit claggy, sickly and all round disappointing.

Are they both not “chocolate flavoured coating” rather than proper chocolate now though? I used to love a Blue Riband but that’s not proper chocolate now and it’s nowhere near as good.

My mum used to work in Jacobs biscuits where they made Club. They had a staff shop where they sold boxes of rejected biscuits to the staff for pennies. We loved it when she brought Club home, orange or mint not the disgusting fruit ones. Very often some of them had been through the chocolate dipping process twice or better still were the ones that were just solid blocks of chocolate. Could never understand the love for Penguins.

Wow, I don't think I've eaten a Club in probably 25 years. Yet I can still taste them! Thick, very sweet chocolate... And that foil-backed paper they used to be wrapped in... Really distinctive texture!

Oh yes! But far nicer in the 1980s lunchbox. Mint, orange, raisin, “milk” (which was just plain), not sure if Gold bars existed in those days. Superior to Penguin, close unentitled relative of the Viscount biscuit.

Different, but both are, well were nice, mid level biscuits. The recent move to chocolate flavour coating is not an improvement. Ironic really given the old Club slogan which clearly stuck in people's heads. Also they shouldn't have got rid of the blue double chocolate Club.

I like a mint Club the best, but they’re vastly superior to a Penguin. And they know it, which is why Penguin have to entice people with a joke.
I’m also partial to a Viscount and a Gold bar.

several supermarkets do penguin knock offs now. I’m very fond of the Aldi ones

Penguin is a poverty level chocolate bar if you ask me.

Clubs much better. Thicker chocolate that you can knaw off with your teeth like a rat.

Biscuit inside that is crunchy and nice.

Penguin is just a bourbon with an extra (thin) layer of chocolate and good PR.

My 1970’s lunchbox favourite’s were Mint Club, United biscuit & Trio all amazing 🤩

Yes orange clubs are far superior to penguins . Has anyone mentioned the orange viscounts yet?! Where do we stand on those?

Love Club, and never liked Penguins, but am wistful for the discontinued raisin variety which were far and away my favourite and which sadly disappeared years ago. Caramel Rocky was always my snack bar of choice though.

Those Aussie Tim Tams have been sneaking in. I have Australian family and heritage but I have to say, they just do not taste of chocolate.
